Map conditions

Recommended Posts

Enable map-wide conditions that can be changed by play action, on a server-to server basis, so that every server will be different. Examples so far:

1. Radio Station. Require a player to have a toolkit and scrap metal that they can bring to one of the many radio towers in Chernarus, and "repair" the radio station. Now make it pretty much like the newer Fallout games; have 12-15 songs and/or news recordings that will loop over the course of an hour. Anyone driving a car or holding a radio item can listen to some music while they travel.

This, obviously, is only about the experience of Chernarus. If I were in a zombie apocalypse scenario, I would feel much more motivated about survival if I knew that there were people out there in good enough spirits to get a radio station working.

2. Lighthouses. Scrap metal, a light bulb item, and a toolkit fix one of the lighthouses on the map. Now, at night a continuous horde of maybe 50-100 zombies will swarm that lighthouse, and meanwhile every other location in the map spawns 50% less zombies. Maybe a giant skyward spotlight at the Northwest airfield to do the same thing.

This, in making the map safer for everybody, would be an excellent point of cooperation for survivors--something there isn't much of otherwise. Obviously it shouldn't be too easy. Maybe make the bulb in the lighthouse last no more than 24 hours, so you could get at most one safe night before you had to quest for more parts.

Other ideas?

Hey Joker.

I like the ideas! Setting up a radio station is a great idea. You can communicate with others on the other side of the map, there got their hands on such device.

The lighthouse is brilliant aswell. 50% less for 24 hours may be too much. I believe you could have one of those going 24/7.

- i don't want to be the guy lighting that thing up he he :P

Great ideas, but sadly probably wont be implemented (if at all) in till the standalone, just because of all the bugs in the mod right now xD

Thanks all for the support!

Not 24 hours! This would only attract zombies at night, so you would only be, again, 50% safer, and only for ~8 hours.

And not on whole map... only the section that zeds can actually see the lighthouse(as you mentioned maybe few spots with somekind of horn or something to atract them), the radio idea I like.

And everything has to be valuated after new zeds are introduced in standalone... atm there is no point having less zeds, they are only annoyance already..

Players should be able to ring the church bells and this should definitely attract zombies.

On a side note i also want to be able to close doors on barns trapping zombies and being able to set the barn on fire.

Perhaps a DJ? Giving out news and information?

The Lighthouse attracting Zeds? Wouldn't that affect zed spawning issues? Its slow enough in a town with frame rates let alone the poor fucker who has to turn it on and will be holed up inside? Would be cool though to see from a distance. Turn the lighthouse into a prison, and the guys inside can decide if they want to make a run from it at night surrounded by flesh eating screamers!!

Would also add to the claustrophobia of the Mod / Game.

Things are getting too silly. But yes, a logical extension of the radio station is to define a geometric area near the radio antenna in which anyone speaking in VoIP will be channeled to radios in the map.

Or, I think a better idea, to limit abuse, would be to limit that to a 30-second recording which would then go into play circulation and repeat every hour. This would expand in two dimensions:

First, it would let players make announcements to the public; e.g. a scorned survivor naming the bandit who killed him and marking him for death. This could lead to global reputations, instead of feuds being confined to small groups of players. Also e.g. announcing to everybody the location of a big tent site ripe for raiding. Still more e.g. a helpful clan announcing a time and place where aid can be given.

Less importantly, it would let players force their taste in music upon unwilling listeners, which would probably inspire vengeance just as much.
