Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me

Recommended Posts

If I just spawned and have nothing. Sure, I can team up with strangers. For a while. Then just get lost after we helped gearing up each other. And in a sneaky way, him not realizing that I left him, so I won't be shot in the back. I think if you wan't to team up with strangers in the game, do it while you are without gear. Run towards a player with a gun and call friendly. If he doesn't shoot you and helps you out to find a weapon. You know you can trust that guy and then roll with him for a while or forever. But it is hard for me to see a guy running towards me yelling friendly, while I am fully geared, and he is too. Just try listing the possible ends for this scenario. You get it I believe. There are more bad ends on this list then good ones. Therefor If someone runs towards me and yells friendly and he has a weapon. I just run to cover where I can see him while being behind a wall or something, then I say stay away from me. I don't want to team up, just move along. If he insists on coming towards me around the corner. Hi is dead. Simple.

I am neutral and I have my own friends to team up with. If it happens to engage someone while I play alone, I don't need to team up. And a fair warning to move along and leave me be, if ignored, results in a death for the other guy. Simple as that.

And Yes, I am a medic/escort but that doesn't necessary means I will lower my weapon and team up with everyone that I run across in game. No.

Never go through unnecessary risk in this hardcore permadeath game by actually carrying your equipment on you where you can lose it.

I'd just like to suggest that this game is neither hardcore nor permadeath. Anyone who has played the game for a month can EASILY survive, and anyone who has a few tents can easily cheat death. This game may start out hardcore permadeath, but given time and experience it ends up anything but.

I asked this dude for a blood transfusion, he gave me one, I offered to give him one, he turns around. I shot him in the head. Just another player to me and I wanted my first kill back then.

Who's this post aimed at? Children who've never left their house? Most of us know people can be lying back stabbing dickheads. Your Public Service Announcement here comes across like a gloat/troll thread, looking for peoples reactions.

Kill me, I call friendly and turn my back all the time, I'll even offer you a weapon to do it if you're lacking. It's your decision to be an ass.

I'll yell friendly if i run across people.. and if they yell it back. Then that's it. I just walk away unless they ask for help.

There have been times when i first started playing that a random guy was nice enough to give me supplies to get on my feet, so since then I try to help instead of shoot first ask later.

Lots of people kill others when their back is turned. Few of them create a thread on the New Player Discussion forum to warn people that this happens. Specifically, it seems after bandit skins were reintroduced people started trusting others if they weren't in a bandit skin. I don't go out of my way to murder as many people as I can so I've never acquired the bandit skin even though I certainly deserve it based on my playstyle.

I figured it couldn't hurt and might even save a few lives to come on here and talk about it. If you would have rather me just kept on murdering people without giving any kind of warning I could have done that just as well.

Just because you see my behavior as ass-like doesn't make me give a damn what you think, or adopt your sense of propriety. You'll be dead, and I'll be off on an adventure using your gear.

It's simple...

1. most Players want to behave in game like they can't do in rl. beeing an asshole, mocking others, bully others is a big part of it . the opposide is out there too but not even close to the numbers of "trolls"

2. newbies get trained to be assholes. if you get a bullet in your head 5 times after spawn and you didn't even got a can of beens in your backpack you damn right if you think this fellas will kill everyone on sight.

3. It is part of the game let's be honest at a certain point in the game there isn't mutch left to do after you got equipped, the risk is high that you get killed with better equip because others want it so you shoot everyone you just dont know just to avoid it.

as long as the tents and vehicles are not fixed that players can save their stuff they will defend their gear at all cost.

i would make the zombies extreme hard to beat so that players HAVE to group up to survive and get good stuff there would be mutch less bandits out there.

as ever sorry for bad grammar :P

Have fun IG

While I'll happily kill just about anyone, I can't get myself to betray someone who helped me/didn't shoot me when they had the chance.

Just today I killed someone who matched the above criteria and I felt so bad that I tracked him down on his next spawn and gave him some stuff..

For a public service announcement, you sure as fuck talk about yourself a lot.

To be clear, since the tone of my last post must have went over your head. I don't care about you back stabbing people, I don't care about losing my gear, I don't care about dying at the hand of a player. You role play the part of a dickhead backstabber, I role play the part of the naive friendly. I don't call you an ass and a dickhead because I don't like what you do, I call you that because it's the truth. A lot of people would be ashamed to admit they back stab other players, here you are bragging about it and calling it "a warning to new players".

I usually find that while doing something like this once teamed up I acknowledge to the person that if they really are going to kill me I would rather they just told me what they want and I give it to them makes life easier, also I'm a shoot on site guy when it comes to fair grounds (not shooting/killing unarmed men/women)

If they would only implement a 30-120 second delay when someone logs, robbing someone might be possible rather than killing them, however, if you tell them that you'll let them live if they give you item X, they'll just log. I'd might just rob someone rather than kill them if I felt there was a decent/reliable way to do it.

Playing the reckless, backstabbing SOB is Easy Mode.

Playing friendly, trying to get to help others is Hard Mode.

Some people prefer winning on Easy. They'll never push up the enveloppe and try for harder things.

Actually, camps and storage make bandits more aggressive. People who might lose all of their equipment and care about it avoid confrontation. People who might lose all of their equipment and don't care about it seek out new people to play with so that getting what you need and surviving is easier/faster. But bandits with camps spend most of their time killing random people on the off chance that they might have something they want since they can just go back and get more loot when their sniper positions are occasionally discovered.

While you have the occasional medic brigade relying on tons of equipment, at least from forum posts it seems clear that the more tents you have and the more you server hop the more likely you are to engage in player killing.

I see no evidence or rationale to suggest that ammoral sociopaths would be any more likely to die in the initial stages of a real-life apocalypse, zombie or otherwise, and you haven't provided any.

Nothing against you personally, but it gets me every time when people here says "this is what I would do in a "real" zombie apocalypse".

There's no way actually knowing, who could survive something like that, but video games aren't something that train you for it.

Just being realistic, my guess is that 90% of gamer's, will not be around to tell the tales of a real zombie apocalypse.

Have you ever really killed someone? Heard that even an accident can mess you really bad.

Shooting pixels is easy, shooting someone who is looking you in the eyes, is a whole different scenario.

No need to answer, just my opinions.

But... enough about that, lets just enjoy the game playing it the way we enjoy.

Yes I'm going to be an egotistical dick, kill people because it's fun, then make a forum post crying so I can sleep at night.

Pfft, man up dude, just admit you're a dick like every other DayZ player and move on. If you really want to work together, wait for WarZ, it'll be more for traditional gamers.

Keep talking about being all "hardcore" because you kill people. The hardcore players are the ones that don't kill "just cause"

Just admit you're a douchebag and go back to cybering on Second Life.

I think this is why I started playing DayZ. If you want to be a Dic$ you can. If you want to help others and work together you can. If you want to be a Lone Wolf you can. Its nice to actually have a game that allows players to play as they want not in some predetermined objective. It kind of allows everyones real personality to come out and be shown. Bottom line in this game is be very careful who you trust. Don't turn your back on anybody, and always keep one eye open when you sleep.

@Obsolescence

Why do you answer them "friendly" when you plan to kill them ? Are you feel like you did something exelent afther that ? Are you turning on on those kind of stuff ? Those ppl which tells you that are friendly will not shoot you even if you come and dont tell anything. But than you will teach them something.

If you say to them "friendly" just that you can kill them without fight than i am sorry but you dont have a clue to play game like this. You are just another loser which dont know to fight so he needs to lie others to be able to kill something. Do you also need to tell to cow that you are "friendly" so that you can kill cow ?

For the fourth time since I've been playing, a player said "friendly" to me. Sensing sincerity in their voice and actions, I said "friendly" back... and then proceeded to shoot them in the head when they weren't looking because they had things I needed (this situation only seems to occur when I'm a new spawn with nothing).

I'm writing this as a warning to new players. Just because someone (like me) has the survivor skin and not the bandit skin does not make them less dangerous. In game, I don't need your help and I don't care for your company. If you can't survive and equip yourself on your own then you could only drag me down. Even if you are self-sufficient, I have no need or use for you because I have no trouble equipping myself solo.

Until Rocket finds some way to make keeping you alive worth my while, expect to be shot on sight, unless you declare yourself friendly -- in which case I will take my time shooting you in the head so I don't have to listen to you whine and complain about it.

Welcome to DayZ. Never trust anyone you don't know in real life. Oh, and bring on the flames :)

P.S. This isnt a guilt thread. I was just hoping to warn new players that people like me are out there and your current strategies are not accounting for my bullets that are ending up in your brains.

Did those "friendlies" I shot in the head have honor? I swear I swiped almost every item off their dead corpse but I never saw any honor.

And I'm not a coward, I'm an opportunist. When you say, "friendly," I hear, "if you say friendly back to me, I'll turn around and let you shoot me in the head and take all my stuff."

I never had any intention other than killing you and taking your shit. When you say, "friendly," it just presents me with a less risky method to the same end. A coward would run away. A coward would say, "friendly," because they're scared of losing their shit. I was perfectly content to have a firefight and risk death. You just provided me with a better opportunity.

There is a trail of 'honorable' corpses in my wake, therefor, from my perspective 'honor' is not a selected trait in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape.

Again, I'm not a monster, I'm a pragmatic opportunist. I have no philisophical or moral qualms with cooperation or mutualism. I've played 900+ hours of L4D/2 in my lifetime (a game where cooperation and teamwork is essential). The problem is that in DayZ there is no benefit to cooperation with strangers, unless you are a newbie and can't handle your own shit. If my goal is to live as long as possible or kill those who try to kill me, I literally have nothing to gain from grouping with strangers except an early death.

I partially think this is because survival is too easy and communication is too difficult. Nobody who has played more than a couple days dies from starvation or dehydration, and randomly bumping into strangers is not a good way to find like-minded individuals. Also, being able to change your player name at any time negates the ability to build a reputation as an asshole who should be shot on sight.

If in my experience, playing nice with others benefitted me more, believe me, I would be doing it.

What a load of crap, you don't have to kill anyone to take their gear, I haven't been playing long and from a fresh spawn i've picked up enough gear to survive on my own and guess what...........I didn't have to kill anyone to do it, saying "friendly" or otherwise, you are doing it to be a dick, plain and simple fella, make what excuses you want as it will not change that fact! :)

Dear people. In-game actions cannot tell you what someone is like in real life. That is all.

The statement is offensively wrong, but alright.

We all role play, right?

Even if you're playing the guy who hates role playing, that's a role in of itself.

I'm a total coward with this latest character.

After losing a 10 day mountain man to a hacker, I have a 20+ day mountain man going now.

Trying to confirm friendly nearly got me killed the other day, but I still refuse to KoS, or resort to banditry.

All of my favorite DayZ memories so far are the rare instances when I can assist a noob, or at least have a neutral passing.

The item amounts/types are hacked to bits, making a loot greedy mentality somewhat flawed, IMO.

I have not played in a couple of days due to RL responsibility, but if tents are actually working, I may try to be a crappy Hero.

See, I'm not a huge FPS gamer (bored with them since 1998), but I love survival horror, and combining it with MMO elements is irresistible, especially with a sandbox platform.

So here we are, some people, just another FPS, *BOOM* headshot, some people want to help, some troll, and maybe a few like me are trying to play MMOResident Evil. No surprises here.

Unfortunately many people are not very empathetic in real life, and can be downright self centered, and cold emotionally. This game reflects this. Again, no surprises here.

I'm a pragmatic person, but not naturally greedy, or a predator, so the way I play reflects this.

Personally, I have high hopes for the standalone, and I think it will inspire less KoS, and less backstabbing in the general populace.

What, like Pokemon? Or like Ninja Scroll?

More Ninja Scroll I guess.

But I'm talking about what you look like to other people in game. You're just an animation. The game's limitations make you a very poor likeness for a human. You have no emotion, no facial expressions, and no body language. You barely look human, and worse still, you look like everyone else. You're only human trait is your voice, and that's if they bother talking to you.

When someone shoots you, they don't see loss of life or pain. They see a somewhat comical fountain of red coming from a robot like persona that simply falls over. There's no gore or blood splatter. There's no remorse.

Expecting people to be nice when they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet is silly. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

It's better to expect that behavior, because you cannot change it. The only thing you can do, is not do it yourself.

Oh, and Ninja Scroll rules. One of the best I've seen. It's up there with Akira and Ghost in the Shell.
