ChernoPTA 160 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) So bear with me here while I explain my logic.1.7.2.5 has been basically duping every tent saved item now for around a month, lots of people have been consistently regearing from the same tents over and over because every time the servers restart the entire previous save state is there again. This means that outside of the normal amount of duping activity that people tend to get up to, there are upwards of thousands or perhaps tens of thousands of unintentionally duplicated high end mil grade weapons that people have just been picking up all over servers everywhere and theres a constantly refreshed supply of them.I think that 1.7.3 once its produced and of course confirmed through testing that Hive save states will then matter again, should be a good alpha point to once again completely wipe Hive data for all instance ID's and all player ID's and start everyone out fresh under a situation where a long running bug in the alpha process has basically mass replicated a ton of weapons and equipment that by all rights, a lot of people wouldn't actually have without this situation as it stands. For most people playing the alpha as legitimately as possible, a recovery from a Hive wipe is no real big deal, its just a process of stepping back up to where they were. And it removes the huge amount of object replication that has occurred since the 1.7.2.5 release in a way that is ecumenical and equal to all participants in the alpha process. As stated, this is an alpha, and the time to do these kinds of consistency adjustments is when you are in an alpha, and I think that once 1.7.3 is confirmed as working and the hive state saves are fixed again, its simple elementary logic that all Hive instance ID's and player ID's should be reset to 0 in the process as well. Because the metrics gathered by the alpha in an environment where the constant replication of items has been present are simply going to produce very skewed and unreliable information and I cannot think of any metric offset that could be introduced to calculate such a huge explosion of replicated items against true and veritable alpha metrics.Adding this response I made way back at the end of the thread to the original post to try to get people that are responding with "but, hackers" from reading the original post, that aren't reading the responses about hackers throughout the post, to understand that hackers are irrelevant. Let me try to reiterate my stance here' date=' in reference to hackers and concerns with hackers. We are not here to concern ourselves with the data produced by basement dwelling neckbeard jerkasses and 14 year old children who haven't figured out that life doesn't have cheat codes yet. What they do, their disruptions, their "spawning" of items, is absolutely pointless and meaningless to the greater priority which is to provide as much real and veritable data on alpha builds as possible. That is the only concern, it is all that matters. People let hackers take up too much space in their heads...you know what, hackers get banned, I've got 1514 of them banned on my server right now. BattlEye bans even more of them.Over time, what they do is absolutely meaningless in comparison to what every legitimate or as legitimate as possible player is doing in the DayZ environment at this time. You want to play, you want to have fun, you want to have an "equal chance" and you view these hackers as some kind of impediment to that, you give them far too much power, and every time the DayZ forum squeals like a pig, someone over on 4chan is lulzing it up because your tears are gravy on their steak as far as they're concerned.Lets talk numbers, lets talk real numbers here. Of 1.1 million individual players there is a good outside chance that 10% of that number are probably hackers. Thats 110,000 hackers, give or take a few....lot of hackers, an army almost. But for every hacker there is, there is a ten to one ratio of people playing the game more or less as intended. And for every ammo box spawned, only one or two people have actually taken anything out of it, same with Thunderdomes and whatever else. Now lets think about tents. Our last veritable information from the DayZ staff was that there were WELL over a million tents storing data on the Hive. That is where part of the problem with saves are coming from. Now lets think about the fact that most DayZ servers restart at least once a day if not up to 4 times a day to maintain optimal performance.1 million tents, and an average of 40 players per server with upwards of 4000 servers. In theory this means that the EXACT SAME tent has handed at least 4 separate individual players the same weapons, tools and ammunition, once every day for the last month. One million tents, times one million players times four million copies of the same gun, every, single, day. And thats not even taking into account every individual item in a tent, thats just theoretically throwing around worst case scenario numbers where EVERY tent on the Hive only has ONE ITEM PERIOD.Four million duped items a day, completely by fault of design.Do you really think a hacker, or even an army of hackers can replicate that?No...they cannot. 1.7.2.5 has been more detrimental than hackers, 1.7.2.5 has taken a lot of the work out of being a "hacker" far as gear is concerned, 1.7.2.5 has replicated more items in the last 30 days than "hackers" have in the entire lifespan of DayZ as a mod so far.So stop concerning yourselves with hackers, they're not even statistically relevant in regards to the replication numbers we're talking about in reference to the 1.7.2.5 situation.[/quote'] Edited September 5, 2012 by ChernoPTA
aru_azif 70 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) didn't read but like the title will comment after i've read it*after reading*so i completely agree with the points you gave.I was about to ask what if the save system is still bugged but then i re-read the part of "once 1.7.3 is confirmed as working and the hive state saves are fixed again"then we would have no wipe.but nonetheless i think the wipe would be a good plan :)*edit 2*so currently when i look at the poll 87% agrees on a wipe fck yea !*edit 3*awsome 420 votes 85.20% in favor of a wipe :o we might be able to pull it off ^_^ Edited September 4, 2012 by aru_azif

Matthias1987 59 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Great stuff, remove all my gear and give me an even less fighting chance against people who will just hack their gear in again. Edited September 5, 2012 by Uni1987
WhiteLight 4 Posted September 3, 2012 The mod is a long way overdue of a hive wipe. The value of items has been non-existent for weeks as they are being duplicated over and over again.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 3, 2012 Yup, it's the value of gear that makes DayZ what it is, right now nothing is rare enough. Wipe it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zeppa 562 Posted September 3, 2012 wtf, first thread that everyone agrees??? Is this a dream or what :DI agree, wipe it... WIPE IT ALL!
isoterik 7 Posted September 3, 2012 great idea. the devs should do this with the next patch. a complete reset. other games do this aswell in their alpha/beta stage. best example is diablo 3. they did it alot in the beta phase.
