grimsonfart 49 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Just wondering, is hopping from server to server to find good gear actually against the rules?example, I usually play on one server for maybe 30-40 minutes, take a good break and then il maybe join another server. Is that bad? Edited September 2, 2012 by grimsonfart
ChernoPTA 160 Posted September 2, 2012 No, which is why everyone does it.There have been some attempts with the latest DayZ versions to make this less viable though. Sometimes the Hive will reset your positional coordinates to Kamenka if it thinks you're hopping, but this is also a bit of a mixed bag because it will also do this to people who simply relogged on the same server cause they got an animation bug and couldn't move. So it might be an attempt at trying to stop server hopping and ghosting, or it could just be a bug, who knows.Overall still not against the rules, but seems like someones trying to make it less viable.

I get to the church, and get disconnected for high ping. I spawn back in kamenka. :c
ActionManZlt 160 Posted September 2, 2012 There's nothing to stop you from doing it, but you should feel bad if you swap servers every 30 seconds to exploit the loot spawns.
grimsonfart 49 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Never happened to me that i spawn back in kamenka, even if i rejoin a server right after i quit another. That said, i dont go server hopping, but i have done it a few times Edited September 2, 2012 by grimsonfart
agippo 37 Posted September 2, 2012 exploiting loot is ok (IMO) but the server Hoppers that jump across servers so they can appear behind you in a firefight are shit

Dayzo 182 Posted September 2, 2012 So what are the 'triggers', 'patterns' or 'logic' that determine a 'server hop'?When starting to play, I go through quite a few servers looking for daytime and good weather (rain makes my fps unplayable).I'll typically connect and disconnect to about five or six servers in quick succession.I've never had an indication that the game has thought I've 'hopped'. agippo 37 Posted September 2, 2012 First is not ok, i can't just go to an alternate reality if a store has sold out an item i wanted to buyI do take your point, but at the same time, I cant just stuff items into my pack in a real shop, then pop back to the store 10 minutes later to peruse their spanky new inventory that has materialised. I also thought if you "spawned" directly into a supermarket or location, its usually empty? I personally dont server jump, as servers in Australia seem to take 5-10 minutes to get into at times, so its not worth the hassle.
agippo 37 Posted September 2, 2012 When starting to play, I go through quite a few servers looking for daytime and good weather (rain makes my fps unplayable).Servers should show the time of day before you login. I know when i get to the DayZ multiplayer server screen It says GMT+2 (or similar) next to most servers

Me and a buddy had 1 server that we played on together and when we're Lonewolfing it, we usually stayed on the same server unless we played with friends. Noticed quite a few players connecting for 10 minutes ( to check item spawns out ) then disconnecting. It's the hackers that have ruined the game for me though, I've lost count of how many times I've died due to a hacker nuking everywhere, or teleporting everyone to somewhere and killing them all. Which is why I've made the decision to go to a private hived server. Shame really, because this a awesome mod and for hackers to come in and ruin a ALPHA just seems petty and knobheadish IMO. Even the combination of graphical glitches, Cars not saving ( and when they do, they don't keep their repair state most of the time ) and Tents not saving, didn't really ruin the game for me as it was work aroundable but hackers you can't really do anything about them in public servers.Hopefully when the Standalone comes out, Rocket's team has rescripted the engine enough to make all the scripts that you see working in the mod, non workable.
