A dedicated "Fan Fiction" section?

Recommended Posts

I am an avid "Total War" gamer. On our forums, we have an After Action Report thread section where we can write novels, diaries, letters and the likes of our exploits from a first or third person perspective, usually in role.

I contribute enthusiastically there and I am adamant such a format would work tremendously in our community here.

Journal entries, interior monologues, stories, videos, letters, graphic novels - I firmly believe every narrative medium could thrive in these forums should we establish a dedicated thread.

It's merely a suggestion, but it's something I feel passionately about and would like to garner board support and feedback.

Cheers.

I imagine something akin to Cormac Murphy's "The Road"

I second this motion

A dedicated community fiction section would add some much needed atmosphere to the mod

I wonder how long until it would get....... icky.

In reality, it could spawn some neat stuff, but I would be cautious of that.

Excellent response and very positive, thank you.

Is it a case of proposing a section more officially to moderators/devs?

I wholeheartedly agree, if the rule is made that fanfic can ONLY be posted in said forum, that way I can 100% avoid that shit.

I'm not sure what's with the... enthusiastic... responses from some people.

This would barely even qualify as fanfiction -- it's zombie/survival-themed amateur fiction based in Chernarus. Given that anyone on these boards is already playing out their own little personal story (no matter how little they might flesh it out in their heads) in that exact same fictional location, I don't really see what cause there is for the sentiment.

There are no NPCs, no backstory... none of the things that stereotypically-bad fanfiction butchers in order to, well, be classified as stereotypically-bad fanfiction.

What do they teach kids in schools these days? The imagination is a dying thing.

Either way, a fiction board would be nice. The game breeds stories, and chances are that stories posted on 4chan, Reddit, or viewed through a Youtube channel are the only reason nearly anyone is playing this game to begin with.

Perhaps a story telling board, but I shudder at the thought of all of the teenagers with no writing talent writing fan fiction...

I think people are mistaking my suggestion.

I want quality storytelling with deep, enriched writing and an emphasis on the intensity if setting and character.

Not teen rags.

well the authors of the so-called "teen rags" THINK its storytelling with deep, enriched writing. But it ain't.

@ esciar

Do what you want, if you want to write a DayZ tale, well written and all, fine.

Post it in the Gallery forum.

If it becomes a "trend" all well and good.

If it refers to your in-game experience, post it here in the DayZ stories Thread.

Thanks.
