Why the radio silence?!?

Any information about 1.7.3 fixing the tents and vehicles?

If that happens, i'll be a happy man, please!

(Tents are so amazing that if you keep repeating TENTS TENTS TENTS very fast and non-stop, it will sound like TITS.)

Any news regarding the broken HIVE at 1.7.2.5 that causes alot of servers not to save vehicles and tents?

There is a fix coming out to fix the broken tents and vehicles. This will come at the same time that Vilayer offers DayZ a new server to run the new hive on. There is no guaranteed time frame yet, other than soon, but this is what I heard straight from Vilayer who is obviously in cahoots with Rocket & DayZ as well as being the largest dayz hoster out there by percentage of servers. We should see less desync, and this fix. Hopefully at the same time, Rocket takes out the military soldiers creating the glitch and we have a "Stable release" at least until standalone. To me, that would be perfect.

The reason taking out the dead soldiers is so important to me, is that I read a thread on reddit where rocket states the graphical bugs are a problem that's residing deep within the arma 2 engine that came about with the 1.62 arma patch, and that it's been very frustrating to fix with what he has access to now. This is why he thought he had it fixed but realized he only temporarily fixed the issue. He also said that since it's an engine problem which would require him to get to the core of the engine to correct, this may not be fixed entirely until standalone or a new arma patch(not beta) goes through, if it even does before we have a boxed version of DayZ.

love ur work rocket, but you should know we dont care about dogs as long as there are hackers and gfx glitches. If you fix the hacking and artifacts we be super happy then you can take your time with "content" please please please just fix the artifacts at least (by fix i mean remove the friggin static zombies) I dont even play anymore because I cant farm for better gear due to NOT BEING ABLE SEE in any of the military areas.

prioritize rocket, dogs and content = priority 1 - artifacts and hackers = priority 10

Obviously some people aren't too thrilled that not much information has come out, and also that instead of that I've been travelling around visiting media and going to conferences. It's a fair point, we're trying to develop a game here not win an election. But there is some real value to the staging efforts that have been going on, an example being PAX where I am now. Initially, we weren't going to go. But when we looked at it, we realized the tremendous networking opportunity and a chance to discuss DayZ with some of the best and brightest minds in gaming. Already the trip has paid dividends.

The media stuff is also really important, they're a vessel to other areas of the industry. Yes, I end up saying the same thing again and again. That is just how it works. I cowboy up and deal with it. The apparent radio silence is more about me not really having anything to say, rather than ignoring things. My main effort now is "listening", which I have been carefully reading and collating the suggestion threads both here and on Reddit, as well as snooping on other sites.

Like someone put in another thread, what we are all more interested in now is what I actually DO not what I SAY. But, that doesn't remove the value in discussing the implications of what happened with DayZ, just maybe some developers/publishers will start putting more modding in games - and look at WHY DayZ was successful. I think that is more important even than the DayZ project itself.

So stay tuned, when I have finished collating the suggestion details and we have the backlog listed, I'll post more information.

Regarding patch 1.7.3, I'm not going to make the mistake of releasing a patch before it is ready. 1.7.3 just isnt ready yet.

You can't bullshit a bullshitter. "Networking opportunities" is a clever way to say, "Fuck yeah I got a trip that I can write off for business purposes that is really just me talking shop with some dudes in a different place". I saw what you showed at PAX. Dogs. Wow Rocket good job, you put dogs into ARMA, something that was already in ARMA, and they don't even work properly yet. I am not trying to underplay your successes because I love the mod and the chance that you took but jesus christ don't piss on me and tell me its raining. You are not the same dude now that you were when this was just starting, and I think you need to realize the reason it took off was because it was clear you were dedicated to bringing a good idea to fruition and you were working on it constantly. Updates were frequent and large and you were a visible and vocal part of the community and when shit was broken you promptly fixed it but that has all but stopped. Graphical glitches are just a part of the game now. You have basically bound admins from doing their job, and you are running around the globe chit chatting with gaming press. Fuck the gaming press, they have been sucking you off since this first exploded and you don't need to go to them to make shit happen PR wise. The gaming media doesn't buy your games, we do. The gaming media didn't suddenly start buying copies of ARMA 2 so much so that your bosses decided to back your project because it was making them mad cash, we did. Stop circle jerking with IGN, put nose back to the grind stone, and fix that shit that is obviously broken. Fuck dogs, it is a cool idea but with things the way they are you are adding needless shit onto problems without fixing them. Might I remind you what happened to CCP after using that exact same model for years.

"Regarding patch 1.7.3, I'm not going to make the mistake of releasing a patch before it is ready. 1.7.3 just isnt ready yet."

This is the most sensible thing I have seen you say in a while. I can wait for a patch until it is ready, so long as I know you are actually working on it and not just sitting around throwing around "wouldn't it be cool if's" with developers who aren't working with you.

Good luck man, I really hope you get this shit sorted out because this has the potential to really be one of the great games but you have to steward it carefully.

regarding those graphics glitches yea they are not just object related but im sure removing them would get rid, they are the same thing many people who played arma 2 before the dayz rush would likely have seen when you look at the sky at certain angles sometimes, this wasn't so bad as only the sky usually went all trippy and shit!

Also you say people are mad you went to the games con i disagree people are fine with you going there they are fine with you concentrating on the standalone, but what people are not happy about is the blanket silence. Yes its an alpha albeit a rather strange (read unconventional) alpha test.

Despite it being an alpha we are your customers (probably) i.e we are the people who are most likely going to buy your game and its pretty out of order to just say nothing, not just you EVERYONE pretty much with the exception of Griff has had nothing to say.

It all just adds to people thinking whats it actually going to be like when the stand alone comes out, it wont be using arma 3 as you've said and from what i can tell the issues with saving are in some way hive related? and surely for the most part the hive is going to be built almost the same surely for the stand alone so surely issues like this are a big worry? And you mention about patches not being released unless they are ready, when the last 2 patches i cant recall anything they actually fixed they just broke alot of things and then it all went a little bit quiet.

Like i said were happy for you to take your time go do your networking but i'm sure someone including you could have said something at some point it takes a few mins to write a post on here.

Hope it all wokrs out but work on that customer service :P

Hackers (skiddies mostly) will be a problem until standalone and even then you will still see hacking on occasion like every other game (just much less hopefully). Read up on the standalone and the reasons it can not really be fixed in the mod and you will understand why it will either take patience or just walking away until the problem is resolved. I at least understand the frustration and confusion with graphic bugs (unlike the endless hacker whines by people too lazy to actually understand a problem that has been discussed to death), but once again there is a reason they are hard to fix and that reason extends beyond the DayZ mod.

If the fix was easy for either issue it would already be out.

Good to hear you haven't completely checked out of the community (yet).

If you have any resources that are being allocated to the mod at all, I believe the arftifacting bug should be priority one. The introduction of graphic glitches is the first mod change I've experienced that has got me feeling this game is no longer playable. Because of the delay in fixing this seemingly simple yet substantial bug and the shift from relentless updating to "radio silence", I've gone from someone who would have blindly bought the standalone game right off the shelf on day one to thinking I'll probably end up with a wait & see approach.

My 2 cents.

Well said, I have the distinct feeling that there is about a 50% chance the finished game will be absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, I'm afraid there is an equally large chance that it will be a complete and utter train wreck. Oh well, mediocrity is boring.

Best of luck,

I've got feeling that we might get 1.7.3 before end of the next week.

If they do it right (glitches gone and tents & cars saving properly), they will have a lot more of breathing space for standalone :) .

Not to mention that a fix for those issues you just mentioned would probably bring A LOT of players that stopped playing back to the game.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't,

Unlike the mod which ended up selling itself, the standalone is going to be a pruduct and needs to be sold. At this level even Rocket has to show up for a couple of interviews and has to show up at PAX. DayZ is old news on twitch, I mean at 1,2 million unique users, most of the people getting their game info from youtube and twitch, have already signed up. I'm sure a good few streamers will jump on the standalone, but it doesn't hurt anyone to be a little bit available to the old gaming media, such as at PAX and seemingly repetative interviews.

Thanks for the update Rocket, I think most people are just happy see some officials still reading the Forums !.

I think we all understand that your working on the Standalone, and quite frankly, I think we would rather have you working on the Standalone more than the mod, but what about opening up the mod to the community more ? I know you / your team has said that eventually that is the plan (once the standalone is released), just make it more open source, allow the community to make more maps and private / modded servers, I think this will keep the population happy with new content until the Standalone is released. As you would know your self, its amazing what some modders can do !

Keep up the good work !

well he said he'd release it when it's ready, and that it is just not ready yet..

to me that sounds like waiting another month not a week.... but who knows :)

My main concern is that, when following the minecraft model - You have to keep putting out updates to the game. In the minecraft model, the players are the alpha/beta testers - now you just want it to be perfect on realease, having to do all the testing yourself or in a closed testing group.

I am afraid, after not updating for a while - that ppl will lose interrest and find something else to do. You have to keep the hype up, and listen to the actual players - There is no use getting heaps of media coverage if you are neglecting what makes this thing valuable !. Dogs etc are all fine and stuff, but the game is good as it is. It just needs better movement, better graphic engine, less glitches etc. Hopefully the team will concentrate on what is important, and start releasing new stuff. Its supposed to be an alpha, that players are allowed to test and work with.

Yes it is rather refreshing. Most of the community are patient. It is just the very small minority that demand things! OMFG Fix it now etc etc etc.

Some people just have no concept of ALPHA nevermind BETA.

And you can have some of my beans to good sir.
