How about a bit more realism?

Recommended Posts

This game in the choice of gears lacks of realism, and this issue transformed this game from a survival zombie game in a pretty stupid free for all for COD kids.

How to start to fix it? I would start deleting some gears, or changing the way you can get them.

First of all, Ghillie suit....someone can tell me why a Ghillie suit has such availability and why it has to exist in a zombie survival game?

Add a gear like this, that everyone can find (I had hundreds of that crap) its like to say "hide and ambush the people going to loot". Surely this does not encourage cooperative game. In the real world there are the airsoft players who has a cheap version purchased from ebay, or military just craft it.

So, my suggestion is: Ghillie suit should be a crafted item, not easy to find parts, and binded to the one character.

Then, I dont like the choice of weapons.

Antimaterial rifles like the AS50 and the M107 are first of all not commonly available, and I find more AS50 than AKM in that world.

Kids like these because bullet trajectory is flat and they have to not bother with adjustment in elevation. This encourages the easy pvp.

Also, these kind of rifles are very uncommon, and are very very heavy and big. You shoot a .50 PRONED, not standing up or crouched. In dayz you aim and rapid fire from any position, aim and run like it is an m16. We want realism? Lets start getting rid of such bullshits.

My suggestions are: When you aim with a .50 not proned aim should not be steady, and the recoil should make you lose completly the target. Also it should need a setup time from the deploy to the first shoot proned, and the weight should be a penality too. I suggest to not let it use with a backpack, just like the rocket launcher. If you want to use such a weapon, drive your vehicle, take from it, deploy it and use it....this is how it should be.

If its too difficoult to do do this, just delete .50 rifles from the game.

This is how it should be? If you want a game completely the way you would like it, make it yourself.

If you don't like this game, simply play something else.

If the constant threads about hackers etc aren't already enough, threads like these make me feel sick.

Why did you buy the game in teh first place? Go play the normal ARMA 2 then, it's more realistic to have ghillies & shit there so.

I thought this was going to be a thread about getting rid of 3rd person view.

I really like your post about anti material rifles mate.

They need to get tweaked or go away, simply to high an advantage and so unrealistic, compared to other weapons in the game.

Giulle siut should also get a tweak. Maybe make people run slower while wearing it, impair vision or introduce body overheating. A guille suit in real life is NOT just a suit you put on and dont notice lol. It weight you down, impair vision and its fricking warm lol.

If you want realism, just play arma itself.

In Arma you can not keep your target in sight standing up fireing a 50cal, also the ACE mod will make it not possible to run far with full gear, the more you carry the less quick you go and the quicker you get tired.

OFP/Arma are "real" militairy simulators, for dayz these things have been loosened up for the regular FPS players, Arma and OFP have never been popular "games" because they are to realistic. To get some more player for Dayz they had to make the game easier. ( i hate 3rd person, if you want to start make the game more realistic, stop playing it with 3rd person active).

See where this game comes from : http://www.vbs2.com/

http://www.vbsworlds.com/

Pff we want more realisme...... Dayz players don't want realism they want a PvP FPS game.

OFP/Arma players want to get rid of these FPS players, thats why i say, GET RID OF 3RD PERSON FISRT, this will clean out the kids.

Just wait for the stand alone game, then we will split off the die hards from the console players.

Dayz is a MOD for ARMA, ARMA is the "game" get more information about arma, start playing that, dayz is just a super small part of it.

i dont know what do you mean by "had to make game easier", but things like bleeding. blood transfusion, barbed wire, sandbags and tank traps made challenging instead of realistic.

i dont know what do you mean by "had to make game easier"

I'm a die hard arma player and i miss indeed the effects of fireing guns standing up, it seems way more easy in Dayz then it is in Arma without dayz.

The example of fireing a .50, is indeed very hard in Arma without Dayz, it is way more easy now in Dayz, so that is what i mean with them easying it up. Also i have the idea that it is harder to kill somebody now in Dayz, in Arma every bullet hit is a serious situation, and you die much easier.

Also the trajectory of bullets is something BIS is very serious about, in Arma you will have wind and gravity effects on your bullets, so if you say the trajectory of a .50 is now just straight, then they must have made that "easier" too.

I'm not complaining, i just try to get more people to discover Arma, the actual game underneith the Dayz mod.

A lot of people do not know what awesome "game" this Arma is, and what is actually possible with this engine.

If you can think of something it will be possible with Arma to implement that, thats the real power of this software.

I have made a couple of islands for this game, i have made Bingo balls in the game ( just because we are building automated bingo machines i was already busy creating 3D objects for my work, for a laugh i just imported these models into my game, i have now the product i sell in real life in my game) It just to ilustrate what possibilities you have with this game. Just for giggles :

And trust me, realism is in this OFP/Arma series, i'm really nervious about the release of Arma III.

I would really love to see DayZ become (much) more "realistic".

I want it to be so harsh and hostile that I feel completely lost and helpless.

I want to be thankful for every soda or bean can I find.

I want to have to think about every bullet I fire, because I never know when and if I will find some more ammo.

I want to have to think twice about picking up an AS50 (if I ever find one), because Nato Ammo is extremely rare (and i mean EXTREMELY), and it weighs more than all my other gear together.

I want it to be a real fight for Survival.

the issue with ghillie is that it doesnt cause body overheat. add that and people will be very unlikely to wear it.

What a retarded post. Seriously...never make a game.

The issue with the ghillie is that it doesn't have a feature that would render it useless? Lol. Okay buddy.

I have to disagree with you on this, Jim Bean.

This feature would simply add realism. And is wouldn't render the Ghillie useless, it would just prevent Players from using it as "everyday" clothing. It would just add a little disadvantage to go with all the advantages the Ghillie gives you.

How about wearing the ghillie suit makes your temperature go up and you get thirsty a lot faster. This would require people to have to take it off frequently to move around and make sure they are stocked up on supplies. Laying down, sniping people all day long wouldn't work if you had to constantly drink, and the increased body heat would mess with your vision.

RudestBuddhist: Exactly.

(And we could even add the factor "sunlight". As already your daytime temperature is higher than at night, there could be difference between shadow + light)

Man, I gotta learn coding, I'd make my own Apocalypse Survival Game... That's what I was thinking all the time, until I found DayZ.

Go to a server that doesnt have crosshairs on so being "no-scoped" with a .50 rifle wont happen.

if crosshair`s absence doesnt affect accuracy will it matter? or it does affect?

You might get a lucky hit, but i doubt you will hit with the first 3 rounds without crosshair on range of 20m. Just try it in editor.

lucky or not, if crosshair simply not shown but technically its still there(transparent), it wont change anything

Huh? We are talking of the green crosshair on the HUD right? If thats gone trying to aim without scoping in is hell.

It's not about the crosshair or aiming without scoping, it's the about the fact that aiming with a 20+ kg rifle while standing up straight is not as easy as you might think from playing DayZ.

If you'd do that in reality, the recoil would push you backwards and let the rifle jump into the air, so you lose your target.

That's why Snipers always are Prone.

Everything has benefits and drawbacks IRL, this is what needs to be implemented with gear/weapons in dayz. It doesn't "balance" the game by making crappy things better or good things bad, it simply increases the authenticity. Everything is a tool, and every tool has a specific purpose. Its your job to choose the right tools for the right situation.

.50's are so big/heavy that they are really only used from set positions at extreme ranges, they are so big/heavy because the fire a massive bullet with alot of powder, this gives them alot of damage and with good ballistics.

An M4/AKS is a light multi use weapon platform, because it fires a small caliber round, this also allows you to carry more rounds. You sacrifice damage compared to full rifle calibers like 7.62x51.

Full lvl IV body armor would protect you from one full size rifle bullet, but its heavy/hot when compared to a lvl I vest...

Ahh, thats what you meant, i agree the M107 is too accurate while standing or crouched, but i dont see why anyone in their right mind would use them standing or crouched even in ArmA.

Ambushing people who look for loot IS realistic.

Encouraging cooperation artificially is not realistic.
