Entitlement, Rocket and the Mod

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Some of you may know my posts but many not.

Here is my "rant"

Firstly, I'm not a major fan of Rockets. The way he forms his post often jars me, and I doubt we could be chums down the pub.

That said, he has made a rather interesting mod, which seems to appeal to many, myself included.

The thing that irritates me is the lack of formative posts regarding said mod.

This is a test phase, there are major issues, but however the standalone turns out, we ourselves have the choice whether we join in or not.

The recent amount of complaints is astounding.

The amount of angst against R and the devs and mods confuzzles me.

I personally, have faith in BE. Its not perfect, but then again what is?

Why deliver so much rage and angsty hideousness against a game you have enjoyed?

If one doesn't like it, then simply do not play.

You are participating in an Test phase, you will loose kit etc.

I myself don't particularly like the way the game is heading for the stand alone.

My solution? I'll play something else if I don't like the format.

Why do so many people become "difficult" when thing don't go the way they want?

Why flood the forums?

If you hate the game, leave. Simple.

There are far more real world things going on than this game, rail against something important, like Syria, the illegal war in Afghaistan (imho), third world poverty, poverty at home, lack of decent health care, the list is endless.

Yes, Rocket may be a "tool" in ones eyes, but he's given YOU fun.

What's the real problem?

Get a grip community.

Feed back issues and bugs, direct the game into a thing you want.

Leave the devs alone, and more importantly don't hassle the mods. AFAIK they're all doing this on their own time for fee.

Constructive criticism is cool. ie the lack of dev communication.

It's a valid point.

Script griefing.

That too valid.

But give feedback not rants.

We have a great opportunity here let's not waste it.

Thoughts?

Standard gaming/mod forum on net.

Previously unknown dude makes a game or mod.

Game or mod gets semi popular.

Dude makes a forum or blog or whatever.

People come in all yay! and wooohooo ! i love this shinizzle !

Dude posts away in his own style like he has ever since he has been on the net.Everyone appreciates his work and time taken to post.

Game or mod gets more popular , people start having opinions and ideas.

Dude keeps posting and fucking with mod frenetically.

Game or mod explodes.

People start to feel like this is their game that the guy is fucking with now, some do not like the direction, glitches or whatever.

Dude is all of a sudden crazy busy with the fanfare and popularity of his mod.

People start abusing dude who made mod, typically it splits into fanbois, trolls, haters and the casual forum user looking for tips or just general info..The haters and fanbois can stand out far above the others though and can make it very monotone and painful to sift through on a daily basis.

Dude does not have enough time to focus on the forum as much anymore, which has now sunken far from what it used to be anyway and posts infrequently, you can only take so much abuse before you think fuck it, just beating my head against a wall here with this crew.

Seems on par with the standard style i have seen over many many years. Seen many a Dev not post on their own forums because of the beating their head against a wall. Its a pity but the old standard of a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

Grammar, It's like magnets.

How do they work?

Ok, We have had one decent reply or thought. Is the community that vapid? I know it's not but there are times when one wonders a little.

Lets get some feedback going.

You bring up some valid points Frank. One thing to keep in mind is everyone expresses themselves in different ways, AND, you are dealing with a wide range of age groups. Many people can have an open objective conversation, however the thread is usually then attacked and controlled by either fanboys or haters, or both.

To be honest, I have come to the conclusion, it is what it is.

What's the point of a forum if you can't allow everyone to express their own opinions in their own threads?

And also; don't expect much from a troll community other than trolling. It's unhealthy.

I actually do like Rockets ideals for gaming.

Like most of my favorite game producers, there's a real passion to do something exceptional in what he is trying to create.

His posts and online persona seem to be the product of someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind, or cow tow to a particular group.

It's obvious that a large amount of talent has sprung up to support him in this effort, including people who came up through this community.

I prefer Rocket to stay focused on the most important goal of the stand alone, and would likely be best served only gleaning suggestions from this board now, rather than spending his time fielding questions about dog functionality, and drying QQ eyes after hack death, or glitch rage.

To the OP,

I can respond best with Rocket's own words:

"We need the haters Or I will spend all my time working on "cool new stuff" and ignore the bugs, because solving bugs is not fun. It is not exciting. It is not sexy. And it doesn't frontpage on PCGamer, Kotaku, RPS, etc... New features do. So without the haters... this project will die."

Did you just Rick Roll us?

Seriously DayZ is the best game i have played in years. I havent played a game as much as this since the original Wasteland came out in the 80's (yes, i am old)

A lot of people expect too much too soon. Shit, in reality this mod has only been out and popular since April. I have every faith in both the standalone and the mod. I really expect big things when the mod is out and available for the community.

Until then, people need to chill and realise it is only a farking game.
