treyshone 5 Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) DayZ is a mod for the ARMA 2/OA game. That game is made by Bohemia Interactive, the same company which employed Dean "Rocket" Hall. This "free" mod is made by someone who works for Bohemia Interactive and every copy of ARMA 2/OA that is sold puts money in Rocket's pocket. To say that the mod is free is just retarded when you are just giving money to Rocket, the developer of this mod.Edit: Don't even try and say that you bought ARMA 2/OA for ARMA 2 and not for DayZ. Rocket could've just stopped making this mod months ago, because there's nothing holding himself to the mod. Luckily for us, he wants to push forward past the mod into the standalone. Hell, he actually has no reason to continue work on the mod right now, but he plans to anyways for testing and such till the release the standalone alpha. It took weeks to drop a small hotfix which didn't fix anything at all and actually made things worse. I believe I seen a picture somwhere of a copy of arma II with a sticker on it that said "needed to play DAYZ". So in my mind and probably a lot of other peoples this mod is technically free, but that doiesn't mean people didn't pay for it. People absolutely bought a game they had 0 interest in just because they were told they needed it to play DayZ, from the same company mind you. There's an update on the horizon. Just because he's not updating every week, doesn't mean he's dropping the mod. And of course the standalone won't be free, that's an actual separate game. Great. Most of us didn't. And for most of us the Arma 2 on its own is garbage. Just not our thing.So in the end, no it wasn't really free at all.
