Actually you can hit the barracks all day every day for 6 months and never find NVGs, you are FAR better off simply walking through the woods in the North of the map between 001-006 and you will find numerous tent cities to raid for all the gear you could ever want

Well I know you can just rush it, and suicide a few times for gear, but that really kills it to me when playing a "survival" game. The idea that people always think about the fact they can just re-spawn again and only lose their loot is what seems to kill the largest aspect of the survival idea. Bugs me when I see a guy running around with a hatchet in desperation trying to PvP someone, wish they'd make it so you can't log in for a day once when you die, would cut back the trolling, and the PKing, because suddenly making enemies truly is a bad idea, supports teaming up more. However this is a heavily flawed idea due to hackers and the fact it's just my irrelevant opinion in the first place.

I rarely die when rushing it into cherno. Maybe one out of every ten times.

I was ready to hate this guide.....

1 - New players need experience in this game, not advice IMO

2 - I've seen more concise efficient guides

But I then realised it didn't suit my play style. For new players i think this is mostly sound advice. Shift clicking map? I'd never heard that and i'm going to try it.

I disagree with the deer stands though. I've never found a weapon in a deer stand in my almost 3 months of play not have i seen a backpack in there, but i know that's mostly down to luck.

I really think playing in the wilderness and city scavenging are two entirely different play styles, both of which need to be honed. I prefer the cities as they're a bit more tense, the stuff i'm looking for is more freely available and the chances of an epic encounter are much higher.

My advice to new or newish players would be to give the cities a go.

1 - It's easier to lose zeds in building than in the open

2 - City scavenging teaches you to look around constantly and always have a plan

3 - You get to see how other players behave

4 - You get to hear lots of different weapons, preparing you for future encounters

5 - It teaches you, through death, not to get too attached to your gear

I can see this guide is more suited to the survivalists who want to venture out and explore, but city life is exciting. There's nothing better than stalking players without being seen (not necessaril killing them). I'm city only and average 6 days per life.

Good guide, try ignore the guys who won't give it a second glance because they think they're pro.

Peace

I know that this tip isn't about equipment, but you should add it in anyway.

Don't feed the trolls.

They'll take all your beans.

Not being able to log in for a day wouldn't cut back trolling or pvp. It would be 1000 servers filled with 1 person who's better at pvp than everyone else or a hacker who killed everyone, and tell me how is it not the most epic troll ever if you "team up" with someone only to shoot them in the back and force them to not log in for 24hrs? You're not cutting back on anything but playtime with your scenario.

Now onto your guide (if you can call it that).

Your idea of a guide for players starting out is to go for high end loot as soon as possible... only staying in costal towns for a map and a bike.

My advice for new players (if you're already sending them to low pop servers) is to go into those cities, learn their layouts, spend some time there gathering the supplies they need and learning the mechanics of the game. Not only will this give them an idea of what to loot and what not to loot, but it will also give them the experience of losing all that sweet loot in the blink of an eye.

After a few days of learning cherno/elektro, where items in those towns spawn, mapping paths through the towns to hit the high value stuff with limited exposure to possible enemy contact, then and only then would I give them any advice like going north to get "high end" loot.

Sending new players north into heavily hostile territory because you think cherno and elektro are hostile is like telling someone its better to get stabbed in the face than kicked in the dick. Sure they both hurt but one is a little more severe than the other.

This is the horrible truth, it may take a while to run to the far NW corner of the map, but when you get there its hacked loot paradise. I set my new spawn to auto run north west the moment I hit the beach, then ill head off and do some stuff for half an hour while he blunders up, stopping occasionally to check he isnt lodged in a tree or against a wall. Ill stop at a supermarket if one is on the way for food, drink and a bigger pack, but my first aim is always to find a camp and raid it.

Why fight zombies for the chance of a DMR, or AK Kobra spawning when you can run NW and find a group of tents with 5 of every item in the game unguarded?*

This is just another way hackers are screwing this game, but I am too weak to resist the urge to loot their stuff

* Items may or may not be actually unguarded
