ytman18@gmail.com 9 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) The current max view distance appearing in DayZ seems to be about 1 and a half kilometers with the terrain rendering slightly beyond this (but people and zombies do not). Personally, I feel a longer base view distance, say 3000 meters enforced in PRA2, would open the map up a lot more and really help both the immersion and situational awareness.Simple yea or nay. TheMachine 803 Posted August 23, 2012 Yes.I don't see a reason why it's so low.
SmashT 10907 Posted August 23, 2012 Isn't this in the settings or is a max value set by the server?Problem seems to be that I can never find a clear sunny server, always raining or cloudy :(
zuk 39 Posted August 23, 2012 Yay and nay.Might be bad for people that have lower end PCs? Would be a pay to win situation for us lucky players that can afford higher end PCs? I'd love it as long as everyone would be on an even playing field.

Kar98 27 Posted August 23, 2012 Yes.I don't see a reason why it's so low. It's one of the largest in any game and it would wreck FPS hard
Sirhc5509 12 Posted August 23, 2012 Would rather see more range on rendering the weeds and grass so you're actually concealed while prone at distance, although this would be murder on any lower end pc(pretty sure mine would end up melting if there was 1000 meters of weeds infront of me). ytman18@gmail.com 9 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) Not to sound crass but if people can cough up the dough to play BF3 why not DayZ?The Real Virtuality engine is more CPU intensive though and I guess that really does punish the people with 10+ year old computers... but seriously I doubt that population is too invested in this game series. The grass is just something that can't be done by today's standards. Even the best computers couldn't handle that. Best for there to be some work arounds at ranges like the terrain rendering to grass level when the grass isn't rendered. TheMachine 803 Posted August 23, 2012 It works fine on singleplayer, view distance is like 10k or something?Your PC must be seriously terrible not to be able to run that.
Professional N00b 347 Posted August 23, 2012 I'd love longer view distances. Even on bright sunny days the view distance is just past the range of my rifle. It would be great to actually be able to see a bit further, especially if I ever get ahold of a rifle capable of shooting those distances like an AS50 or something.Maybe I just need to go camp the coast and get one of those dupers who has one...
