Does anybody actually do this?

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering, ever since I started playing DayZ I was made aware of that you are allowed to pick up other peoples' map and check for any marks/waypoints, does anybody actually do this? I myself has never considered doing this whenever I run upon a dead player or after I kill one. Instinctively I just grab whatever I might need from their body and evacuate as fast as possible.

Honestly, what do you people do?

They aren't specific to each map, if you mark your map, everyone in the server with a map can see those markings.

The other day I logged into the same server I've been playing in for a week.. and I checked my map and it had markings I had not put on there. I hadn't picked up anyone elses map yet i saw markings i didn't make. So I'm starting to think that Other peoples markings just show up

Edit: Oh so thats why my camp got raided so soon after marking it on the map... Oh well lesson learned I suppose..

People post fake markings as traps all the time because the markings are on all maps.

I like placing my own directly over theirs with " /////////////////////// " followed over the top again by " \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ " just so you cant read it.

Smasht is correct, every map on a given server has the same markings.

The chat channel you use while placing the marker determined who can read them.

stupid me fell for it once. one time i was listening on team speak and when i figured out where they were i marked "here?" they just couldnt figure it out.

that is incorrect. i check the map on login, global channel by default? then i usually switch to direct and the marks are always still there. Edited by sivart

Mouse over the marking and press your delete key.

Yes, you can remove other people's marks.
