The standalone won't be popular unless

I think diversity that will accommodate multiple playstyles will be more widely accepted. The important thing is education to new players what the difference is between Hive and Private. The largest complaint with Private servers is Admin abuse but people need to be educated that can happen and that the Admin is paying for that server. When joining a Private there could be a window that pops up stating the risks (very short description) that one must click. The largest complaint about Hive is the ghosting/server hopping for loot and players need to be educated on how that happens. Personally I don't understand the complaints about Private servers. There are thousands of them, I just go to another and don't even bring it up.
  2. A.C.E. mod for this game handles the weight issues nicely. Load up with satchels and run about 10 yards and you will pass out. Too heavy. As for artificial accuracy percentages based off of skill trees or whtever is not a good idea for this game. If you want to be more accurate just practice. If you want someone else to be LESS accurate then too damn bad.
  3. Cant the OP just play on servers that offer what he wants? I mean whats the point of telling other players how they can and cant play?

    Is it worth starting now?

As the above post states, ARMA 2 has a ton of mods that you can play beyond DayZ. I wouldnt hesitate to snag ARMA 2, chances are you will still play versions of it long after the Standalone comes out. Tired of Zombies, want to rob a bank? ARMA 2 mod for that. Want to test your skills landing on an aircraft carrier at night in the rain? ARMA 2 mod for that. Want to blow shit up in an AC130 Sectre Gunship? ARMA 2 mod for that. Want to HALO jump as a Goat into enemy territory? ARMA 2, dont even need a mod.

    Once you get the standalone

I am going to Mod it into a military simulator.

    Dayz Event starting in 1hr

I would have gone if the notice had been seen earlier.
  7. I bet he thinks Chernarus is supposed to be in America and not in a Post-Soviet area. A lot of Americans/Australians wonder why the signs arent in English, even though everything about the map screams "Not English"
  8. Thanks for the info. Took me a while to find the old update notes. Good to see some improvements so i don have to hunt for the one or two decent servers.
  9. So Ive played on a few servers that have fixed the duping and backpack infinite food bugs. Has any of that worked its way into the updates yet?
  10. Every time I launch ARMA2 with DayZ Commander it just crashes. I have a retail version so I'm not sure if thats the problem. I'll hop online and try some new servers today. Thanks
  11. So I installed the latest patch and have tried about 30-35 servers and every single one I get kicked from for an unknown version. We cant revert beta patches so do I need to reinstall the game completely?

    worst mechanic..

In any other game I might agree with this. However I see DayZ as being the anti-game. Thus when you die it sucks. Sucks bad. Not kinda sucks like respawn near your stuff and get it back type of sucks... but super sucky, like dont die ever type of sucks. You are choosing to get into battles and you are simply suffering the consequences.
  13. We encourage DayZ players to join our groups. Now if some doofus wants to get all arcade XBOX shooter on us we send them away but that goes for Anybody, not just DayZ. A ton of DayZ players enjoy ARMA 2 because the cool weapons arent "Hacked" and are available for use. Helicopters arent rare, you dont have to eat etc. Many are blown out of the water by ACE and how ACRE works. What I find interesting is how a ton of DayZ only players talk about how buggy and shitty "ARMA" is because they dont understand its an alpha state mod and they think regular ARMA breaks your legs with outhouse doors. Then you get these groups ejecting DayZ players instead of showing them what a solid game, and solid community it has become.

    Why Kill on Sight?

Ive been called a hacker for using an axe to kill snipers.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

DayZ has considerably more hackers that ARMA 2. I have played ARMA 2 since launch and have never been hacked. However I recommend that anyone that doesnt have $30 to throw away should not buy a video game at all.
