Mark88 9 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) Yeah been playing for a few weeks and think I have finally got geared up for the journey North. Im in Elektro and not sure where to go from here, but thinking making a path to the NW airfield as that seems to be the place to gun up.Here is the gear I have finally managed to get and actually live....1 - Win 1866 with (7) 15Rnd slugs1 - M1911 with 3 mags, had 7 but somehow lost 41 - heat pack3 - sodas1 - empty canteen1 - binos1 - matches1 - hatchet1 - hunting knife1 - map1 - alice pack1 - can sardines1 - morphine2 - bandages2 - pain killersI have 5 slots left in my bag and plenty room for more 1911 ammo, so the more I think about it, think I'll make another run back into Elecktro and get some more food and 1911 mags. calthehunter 61 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) You're going to sh*t your pants when you get to NWAF and see all the awesome loot you don't have room for. Especially if you find a downed chopper along the way...you should bring a wagon or something. Edited August 21, 2012 by calthehunter
KarlMonster 3 Posted August 21, 2012 Yep, you're basically set. A second morphine would be better. Another can of food, bandage, and another water bottle wouldn't go amiss - but those you are likely to find along the way, depending on how frequently you stop to scavenge. You don't really need more mags, ammo will be easy to find, and gunfire will draw more Zed. You'll find that cooking the animals you find will give you more blood that canned food. RudestBuddhist 76 Posted August 21, 2012 Good luck man. Hit up Stary Sobor and find some military loot :)
dvious 9 Posted August 21, 2012 Head to stary and pick up a better weapon before you go the the airfeild
Chuckles (DayZ) 32 Posted August 21, 2012 You seem pretty well set up for the trip, but honestly most times I just run straight north. There are plenty of towns to loot all the great stuff you can get at the coast citys and you make it to the NW airfield/stary so much faster (if thats your objective). Kalignoir 9 Posted August 21, 2012 Nothing against you personally BUT I think you may be out gunned.Get your bearings running around some deer stands get an AR15 style rifle.Maybe a long gun that you feel comfortable with. The north isn't about who's on which roof top... It's more about who's in which bush, how many, how mobile they are, and the ever present who's got the more powerful gun that fires the quickest/accurate.Also your sidearm is a good zombie weapon... beyond that its tricky in a pvp situation. Also your survival kit will start to change.2 painkillers2 morphine (because crawling from the north to a hospital isn't fun)3-4 bandages (they're very common)4-5 sidearm mags3 food 3 waterEtc Etc EtcGood luck... See you in the field
ybm 111 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) Why do you try and gear up at Electro? That's just asking to be killed. Try hitting Balota airfield and komarovo then head to stary sobor for some good military gear then hit NWAF Edited August 21, 2012 by ybm
Regicide 111 Posted August 21, 2012 I'd say stay away from Elektro. I always loot what I can, book it out of town, and never come back. Also, you're gonna want more canteens. I try to keep around 3 on me.Check those deerstands as you work your way up north. You'll want something better for PVP than that Winchester when you reach the AF. Even if you don't encounter any players, you're going to have a zillion zombies to deal with up there.

KField86 237 Posted August 21, 2012 Bring 2 morphines, and go kill a sheep, and cook the meat. It is ALWAYS a good idea to have at least 3 or 4 cooked meat on you at all times if you can, because if you take a bullet, you'll heal 3200 blood for 4 meat. It's a life saver in a pinch. Never eat canned food if you can help it.
DareDiver 4 Posted August 21, 2012 Id stopped in Stary also to gear there. A Compass or GPS would help too. But other then that on a low pop server just go north and find some tents and anything else you can find and re-hide it. You can shift-click on the map to help give you direction also. But head towards the top of the map easy way to find some loot. Good luck...
Mark88 9 Posted August 21, 2012 well made it back into town and found 3 more m1911 mags and noticed I only had 1 bandage, not 2, so got another. only found 1 can of food in grocery store and gonna try to find some more cause I starved to death once before trying to hunt food. Mark88 9 Posted August 21, 2012 oh and I have a compass, thought the "k" key would bring it up but no, will figure it out after I finally get out of here.

Osaka (DayZ) 32 Posted August 21, 2012 Food and water is no issue. You'll get through various little villages that are usually loaded with snacks. or find a water bottle you can recycle.NWA is either crowded with bandits, already looted, and usually a lot of zeds around. The last time I got there I think all of them were there. And somehow no good weapon. I found a revolver, that's it. Someone probably just ninja'd through there, got all the goodies and left.So if it's empty for you, head to the west part of NWA, the barracks there usually hold a few good items as well.If that is tin can littered as well, then just head out into the woods, and come back another time, or switch servers, that usually helps the chance of loot. Also, you might want to find a map somewhere, those are extremely handy to have. Your at such a disadvantage on your own. Finally got within 2k and planned on coming in through the SW side to see if I could see snipers etc. All was going well when while crawling to a hut for some coke when loads of gun shots kept pinging all around me. I panicked as I'd dropped my AK to deal with a zed so I could grab a can of soda. Turned out to be the Blokup Welsh and three guys, I knew I had no chance so quit out, oh the shame. The server crashed and when i came back to get my gun these guys came back in, one staying in the lobby probably looking at me doing the same. Left me now having to go to the airfield with an uzi and nothing else :(Don't fancy my chances now, best advice I can give is find a team, it's very hostile up there. If you insist on going alone, hit the woods NE of Stary and you can get there almost unseen. The helicopter fields are a nightmare, little cover and lots of folk doing the same. Mark88 9 Posted August 22, 2012 Yeah Im thinking may skip NW airfield for now. Im still very much a newb and need to get some time in to figure things out. I try to find servers with 10 people or less cause I have a tough enough time surviving the zeds right now. Getting better each hour I play and watching a lot of videos on youtube and reading wiki. Gonna try and hook up with others once I get more comfortable with game and have more knowledge so won't be such a drag on them. Awesome game and Im so looking forward to the stand alone version! Bonehead3535 105 Posted August 22, 2012 you should actually go to balota and get a better weapons like the AKs coz winchester freaking sux
fortran 246 Posted August 22, 2012 Forget the NWA for the time being and Stary for that matter, if I were you I would follow Kalignoir's suggestion, then start hunting for downed choppers. If you play low-pop servers with anybody other than Cherno/Elektro snipers then it is your best bet, because guaranteed, even with 3 people in a server, somebody will be camping/looting the NWA and Stary. When you have hit a few deer stands and found an assault rifle head to the outskirts of Gorka then head west and run that long wide stretch of land from Gorka to the north of Kabanino, especially near "Old Fields" and the lake "Prud". Constantly keep scanning the fields as you run and I can guarantee you you will hit at least one or two crash sites on the way. Another method aside from constantly looking is to keep your eye on the Zombie count in the debug monitor, if you are playing lowpop try and watch it every few seconds. If you come within 300m of a crash site the zombie count will suddenly jump up by 8 zeds. Obviously it might well be another player who has spawned them somewhere else on the map but it can also indicate you are near a crash site, especially if you are in the middle of nowhere, so its worth watching for. Also to add to what has been said, in the North consider every single bush, treeline or low stone wall to harbour your death. Stay out of sight as much as is humanly possible, never run across an open field and watch any crash site you come across for a good while before you move to it. If you get lucky & it is unlooted you might find some end-game gear straight off the bat. Once you have that then feel free to try your luck at the airfield.
