Some things that ruin the realism of DayZ.
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to TagMor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This just isn't true, also even with appropriate clothing if inner layers became wet or torn by the environment/zombie attacks they lose much/all of there protective qualities. Regulation of your core body temperature is of extremely high importance in any survival scenario even when you have appropriate gear. While I don't think death is currently possible from the temperature system in the game (at least I haven't) I think having this as a survival consideration is very realistic and I look forward to its less buggy implementation into the game. You do not need to have snow on the ground or have a desert sun in the air to have hypothermia/hypothermia, and there are many factors beyond actual temperature that impact hypo/hypothermia from age to how much your exerting yourself. Looked into this a little bit, and you are correct for any modern silencer I could find online (after a short search) so I stand corrected. EDIT* I do agree with you about vehicles though, I've never spilled my (real) bicycle once and had it ready to fall apart.... of course my bike also doesn't magically fix itself if i get off it and back on it again. -
Some things that ruin the realism of DayZ.
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to TagMor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Two things, silenced weapons generally fire subsonic ammunition which is different then standard ammunition, some suppressors can fire standard ammunition but many cannot. Regular ammunition fired through suppressors that do accept that ammo type without damage to the suppressor still have a sonic crack and are therefore louder. Subsonic ammo is most defiantly not "magic ammo" though and is very real... if anything an argument can easily be made that the weapons in the game are to silent and therefore unrealistic. Second, in a (non zombie) survival situation exposure is one of the, if not the, biggest killer, so I do not think the temperature system is unrealistic.- 59 replies

Your expectations = regular game reality = alpha mod Its surprising that no matter how many times you explain this, how many times people say "I KNOW ITS AN ALPHA BUT..." or "ALPHA MOD STATUS IS NO EXCUSE FOR.... <insert alpha mod issue here>" If you want to play an alpha mod expect all the issues you are currently experiencing, this will help keep your rage threading to a minimum. If you cant handle the bugs/hacks/exploits wait for the standalone. If you just speak up, great, they need people pointing out problems but you may try doing it constructively (if you really do want the game to be good) instead of a rant about your death on the coast and how your quitting.

Instant Death + Spawn On Coast With Nothing But Ghillie
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Its just alpha, go back to the server you were playing on and return to the place that you had originally logged out at. You should find your body where you left it up north with all equipment.... Unless someone else has found it first. Either way best of luck, happened to me twice, though I don't bother going back to my old body I just re-gear (for the fun of it). -
What is the worth of an AKM?
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to Welch (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People are saying "nothing" I think. They aren't failing to answer you they just don't think its worth anything. Its like asking to trade an a double barreled shotgun, its not the most practical gun and its very common = no interest/no value. -
I try to play on 20 pop or lower servers. I have never been thunder domed or thrown into the air or nuked in almost three months of play. I have run into plenty of people with scripted gear but I have yet to experience any of the crap you cant seem to get away from. I'm probably just lucky but keep in mind "stick to low pop servers" doesn't necessarily mean servers with a population of 3. Last death I had, on a 10ish pop server if memory serves me, I had 3 kills before ever leaving electro which is where I spawned.

Nice rage post, see you later.

Tips to Survival? [Advanced]
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to DatToast's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This really isn't advanced but use that l85 to scope out all your loot targets from a few hundred meters away (200+ at least), if there are zombies then there is one or more players there. Depending on what you see you can go loot some building or go loot a player corpse. I love the L85 thermal setting for this as you can often make out zombies through trees or in low visibility, same applies for players hiding in bushes waiting to snipe you (bonus, they are often filled with nice gear). While not a perfect system this has kept me pretty safe. EDIT: Just note that while this turn into a great thread with some really good advice, if you play on high pop servers long enough random circumstances or hackers will kill you. Or the alpha can just find some random way to kill you/strip you of your gear. Enjoy it while it lasts, but know its not going to last forever. -
Who knows, that might actually pay off for you some day with the rate people go ballistic in this world anymore.

Never going to happen, certainly not in the mod. Im curious though, no one I've ever hit with an M24 or DMR has ever survived (who hasn't alt-f4'ed, which is most people these days). First shot they collapse/pass out, follow up shot they die, if I haven't head shot them in the first place (or they run a few seconds and keel over). Do many people really recover after they have been hit with a "lesser" sniper rifle, I know I haven't. While I really wouldn't mind if .50 snipers were removed from the standalone right now if someone chooses to snipe in the game and they aren't using a .50 they have to deal with a lot of people ducking out before they can get a proper kill. So for the time being I say leave them in. I know there's a lot of griefers around the city these days with hacked AS50 TWS's but with the game in the state its in do you really think any legitimate nerf on rockets end wouldn't be scripted around be the same people griefing the coast now (.50 causes pain, script unlimited pain pills etc)? Personally I would just like to see him fix duping and see battle eye get its game together with hackers which also might go along way to solving this "problem". One more thing, seriously, just grab a can of beans and head north. I keep out of the coast citys and I rarely get sniped before I have a chance to acquire some military hardware myself (at least making it fair game) if they wont change it at least you can play around it.

why are so many children playing this game?
Chuckles (DayZ) replied to slartibartfast (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Babysitters cost what now? Buy your kid a game system and keep food in the fridge and you pretty much never have to speak to them again. Sad but true. -
Its no big deal to me personally, happened to me just tonight and has happened to me twice before. This time around I lost an AS50 and a l85 AWS and all tools/NVG/Rangefinder. Half the fun is getting the gear anyway, so its back to the old grind for me. The best advice I could give you is try to have your fun searching for your gear not possessing it, because sooner or later your going to get alphaed.

Ive been in a few gunfights, they are the best part of the game. Nothing gets your heart beating like pvp.
