DayZGame graphics...

Recommended Posts

Did you expect Arma III graphics? You know, the detailed, realistic, gritty graphics from the trailers.

Looks like DayZGame will not be based on Arma III engine, instead it will be based on a modified Arma II engine.

According to Rocket it will be Arma 2.5.

Kinda dissapointing if you ask me.

P.S. I hope it doesn't run like shit like Arma 2 does...

Pretty sure they'd have to release Arma III first

And why is that? The engine is there, it just isn't compleatly finished yet

Where did you see that?

Really disapointing if true.. I was expecting it to run as a mod atleast until arma3's release, then take assets from a3 and use it in dayz on the same engine.

rocket has stated it'll be on real virtuality4 which is arma3 engine unless I'm wrong. which I don't think I am

What is this Arma 2.5 stuff?

It's basically people misunderstanding Rocket in an interview.

DayZ is going to use a branched version of the Real Virtuality Engine, ArmA 3 and ArmA 2 also use the RV engine.

He basically said, the DayZ engine is going to take what works best for DayZ, some of those things are from ArmA 3, some from ArmA 2 and some are entirely unique to the DayZ engine as none of the ArmA games do it well. The example he gave was that he wanted to use a simple ragdoll similar to ArmA 2 rather than a complex ragdoll like ArmA 3, because it fits into DayZ better, that being it's a multiplayer PvP focussed game.

DayZ is using a branched version of the latest Real Virtuality Engine (RV4), it's going to take what works best for DayZ, some of those things are from ArmA 3, some from ArmA 2 and some are entirely unique to the DayZ engine as none of the ArmA games do it well. Didn't he say he was gonna use the Take On Helis engine? Thats RV3 if I'm not mistaken

Here's a small excerpt from this interview with rocket:

Tim: Far from just converting the existing mod into its own client, Hall is aiming to create something altogether more impressive, unshackled from the restrictions of modding.

Rocket: “We’re going to take the multiplayer code from ArmA 2, which is the most important thing, that’s the most mature element of the code, and it’s going to be a while before ArmA 3 reaches that point. So we’ll effectively be using ArmA 2.5 as a start, but DayZ will quickly go off in its own direction, with our own inventory, UI; all those things we’re completely starting fresh.”

Tim: So the idea is to have something with all the familiarity and complexity of ArmA 2, but with all of ArmA 3’s graphical oomph. But more than that, once they’re able to develop completely free from ArmA 2’s assets and code, there’s all sorts that the team behind DayZ can start to implement. Hall rattles off a series of features.

R: “We want to see ragdoll in the alpha. A simple ragdoll simulation.”

“A completely revised inventory system.”

“Some kind of underground construction.”

Now, I don't know if the middle part that this guy 'Tim' says about the "graphical oomph of ArmA 3" is true or not, as rocket doesnt himself actually confirm that or deny it. But as I interpret it, they (rocket+team) can do pretty much whatever the fuck they want with the new engine, so I don't see any reason why DayZ won't be as impressive as ArmA3 -graphics-wise. At least in the future. We shall wait and see. (!)

:D

Peace.

SD.

Nope, that's not what he said at all

Quote above says multiplayer code, and from this I gather the netcode? So just the networking it sounds like. Anyway, no matter what he means he is not talking about visuals at all, so its using RV4. This whole thread is pointless lol.

I wish I could remember where he said one of the things he wanted to pull from ArmA 3 was the lighting for night as well.

Ahh Too many tidbits in so many random places.

Yeah, but did he ever say that DayZ was gonna run on the A3 engine? I mean A2's engine is pretty damn outdated and it's showing

ArmA 2 runs fine... DayZ is what kills it.... helps to know what you're talking about before you open your bong hole.

Umm, no. Arma2 is so poorly optimized it is not even funny.

Sure it might run fine on a 680, i7 @ 4GHz, but remember, when that shit came out, you were lucky if you were getting steady 25fps.

People must stop saying the ArmA 2 doesnt run well or is broken etc (it might not be optimized well, but still) ... Arma 2 as a game is fine, DayZ is so heavily modified and it does things the Arma 2 engine shouldnt even allow, the mod is what causes the problems, BI didnt make ArmA 2 to run Dayz...

Tell me please, how well Arma2 ran when it came out? You must remember how over-the-minimum-specs our PCs are now, all these years after release

No he didn't, he said it would be on a branched version of RV. Let's just call it the DayZ engine.

No he has never said it will run on Real Virtuality 4 (the one arma 3 is using). What he said is that they will essentially be making their own version of the Real Virtuality engine using bits that we've seen in other BIS games and bits from what will be in ArmA3 plus things we haven't in order to make it DayZ specific.
