Inception, why are you quitting DayZ for the time being? [MASSIVE tl;dr]

I never thought the day would come to be...

So I have been playing DayZ for over a month now. I've been in the endgame period countless times. I've robbed, lied to, cheated upon, killed and saved players numerous times. I have hunted down worthless murderers at the request of other players. I've been attacked, killed and lied to numerous times. I can evade zombies with ease. I can spot players with ease. I've stalked players without them knowing I am doing so for hours. I can do ANYTHING possible in DayZ. I've sprinted through the NWAF on max pop servers. I've given noobs [literal term] high value gear. I've given random players HELICOPTERS. Regardless the risk, I've done it. You name it, I've done it.

I've experienced everything one can possibly experience. I've used every weapon. I've used every vehicle. I've been forced to blow up every vehicle.

I've been killed by hackers.

But I've always persevered. Never have I once hesitated to respawn.

Why am I quitting for a while? It's simple. I'm a danger to my group; to my friends.

Here's the backstory...

So two days ago I had found a VS3 loaded with supplies, weapons and equipment. I was super happy, and I believe my friends/group were too.

Unfortunately, the server was being shut down in the following week. So we had to find another good, reliable server and set up camp there.

So blah blah blah, I found a server and they found a location.

Last night, we were driving it up to base camp. (Note: FA= friend A and FB = friend B.)

Friend A had dinner to attend, so FB and myself sat around the VS3.

[Note: Earlier that day, FB asked me how to switch between primary weapons whilst one is in your main inventory and one is in your backpack. I misinterpreted his justification of his situation, thus I accidentally had destroyed his AS50 by doing so. FB was actually quite mad at me for doing so.]

I was really edgy because FB was mad and I thought he had means to kill me because I had indirectly destroyed his AS50. So I had my sights on him at every time. He would occasionally get in the VS3, start the engine and drive a bit, as if he was going to drive away and leave me. But he stopped most of the times.

I told him that if he were to drive away, I would unload 20 DMR rounds into the VS3, most likely killing him and the truck. I was dead serious about doing so.

A few minutes later, to provoke me, he got in and started to drive down the hill, much further than he normally did. I warned him that I would shoot. He kept going to so I took aim and fired away. He was like "OK OK OK" and stopped. Luckily, he wasn't hurt nor did he truck take significant damage.

FA comes back from dinner later and FB logs off to go to another server for some reasons.

[NOTE: For the majority time I had been playing, I hadn't killed anyone, because I took up some ideals that denied in most cases me killing players if the situation didn't deem it a necessity to kill. I was really, really, really longing for blood. Honestly, it was starting to get to me. Whenever my friends weren't facing me I would place my scope upon their head and contemplate whether or not I should kill them. This is why I told them that if they were to drive the truck away I wouldn't hesitate killing them and blowing up the truck. I was half hoping they would disobey what I stated and half hoping it wouldn't come to that.]

So FA would hop in the truck and sit in there; I would do the same [we were waiting for FB to finish what he was doing so we could pick him up and head to camp]. Occasionally I would get out of the truck and aim my DMR at his head. He would start the engine up and drive/roll it down the hill; I believe he thought that I was going to kill him because I had been mentioning doing so for the past few weeks. At this point, the fact that I desperately wanted to kill someone ingame had really gotten to me. I told him to stop the engine and drive back to me.

This went on for quite a few times, until he went a bit further. He started to drive away, legitimately. I fired a warning shot right past his head to notify him that I wouldn't hesitate at all to kill him; I would kill him 'in a heartbeat'. He didn't stop the truck. This is when I took a position and unloaded into the truck, not stopping for anything. He kept on driving. He knew at this point that I would kill him. I put in 30 rounds until he shouted at me to stop and said with that, that I had put him down to 1k blood. He DCed to avoid dying.

I felt beyond horrible at that point. I know what it's like to have to run/drive across the whole map. It's a real fucking bitch, especially without a map.

So I told him to get back in and I would bandage him hopefully in time...I failed.

He left the call [we were using Skype] and at that point I felt really low. Really really bad.

I had taken away his 20 day-ish character. I had taken away his ghillie suit. I had taken away his zombie kills and other stats. I had also wasted a large amount of his time. That was the worst that I had felt in a long time.

So FB called us him back and oh boy, was he mad. I muted my mic because I didn't want to say anything.

He told me to put the gear he had into the truck and drive down to him.

You honestly don't know how bad that I felt. First I had destroyed FB's AS50 and now I had killed a friend.

I then knew what I had to do. I had to exile myself from the group for a while. The urge to kill had cracked me, and I had done the one thing that I swore not to do.

So I drove down, picked him up and then let him drive back to the NEAF where I would log off until the next time I would play.

I don't know how long it will be until I step foot into DayZ again. A week may fix my urge to kill. Perhaps it may even take a month. I'll see.

So this, my friends, my forum friends, etc, is my goodbye for the time being. I will most likely not be on the forums for the time that I don't play. I don't know if anyone cares, anyway. I don't really care if anyone reads this post; I just wanted to type it.

This is literally one of the funniest stories I have read on this game. I'd recommend you just have a nice sniping session at cherno or electro before playing again. If you find me, I can give you a spare AS50 :P.

I think you may take this game too seriously. I'm not a bandit or a murderer, atm I have 1 bandit kill. I hate shooting noobs and will avoid it if I have to and usually only shoot when absolutely needed.

However when I'm playing with my friend we mess around with eachother constantly, oh look a downed chopper, I shoot him in the leg with my cco SD as I run up and loot it.

We find an ATV and he's like lets go for a ride!, I jump on back and he crashes up into a tree and laughs as we burn.

We play seriously when we are playing seriously, but come on. We are best friend in real life and nothing that we do to eachother on this game is going to ever change that.

You just gotta know when to take a deep breath and realise what comes first.

Friendship > Dayz

I once lost the FN FAL that comes with a night vision scope due to tent bugs/lagging. I asked the server admin (who you can talk to through direct chat) when the server reset. I wanted to see if the reset brought it back in the tent. He asked why and I told him. He just gave a new one to me and my friend for free. He came up behind us as we were just rolling down the hill at stary, lol. He even gave us his coyote pack as a bonus. We saw him ride away on his bicycle. Best admin I've met!

I lost my DMR and AK74 Kobra to my backpack on my first day playing the game. It happened in an open field.. where it should be easy to notice it being dropped within 30m radius :P

Sounds dramatic and tragic. Hopefully the urge to kill leaves you, and your friends will accept you back in to their group. I often find myself sighting in on my team members as well, but they're my IRL brothers, so killing them would get me in to a lick of trouble lol.
