Crawling for loot

I crawl my way through the city searching for loot. I find a house with nice things and make my way in without being seen by the zeds.

And then, when I hit the button to get the loot my character gets on his knees and I am spotted, chased and killed. Wouldn't it be nice if this issue were corrected in later versions of the game? Any tips?

Unfortunately if you loot while you hod a handgun, you will rise to a knee. Doesn't happen with rifles.

this allways catches me out... you have to remember to press the crouch / walk key after doing anything .. looting, vaulting, getting off a ladder..

hopefully it will be fixed.. there are posts already about it as well.. one i made as well

just gotta suck it up and try and remember i'm afraid!

This is an ArmA issue, not a DayZ issue btw.

A trick I like to use (if able) is rolling into buildings such as the grocery store, or the red building with one room. Also, if I notice the animation start where my character starts to get up I let off the keyboard fast. Then get low again.

Even worse is the fast crawling over a slight bump and suddenly your character jumps to their feet at starts sprinting. Died twice from that, now I never crawl anywhere but perfectly flat surfaces.

I don't usually crawl near Zs. Honestly, I prefer getting a few after me and then killing them, to the possibility of having them eat me alive before I can get up from the crawling stance.

Plus, if I'm crawling through a field of Zs and some player opens up on me? Not a chance man.

See, the funny thing is I've been doing it since I started, and after about 80 hours at this point, I've only died to it once.

When you're not near the "popular" areas, then it simply isn't a problem. Mid-north, I've been shot at four times, once by a CZ and thrice by a DMR. One of those times, the player on the right side of the DMR actually knew how to use it (or just got lucky) and ended up breaking my leg, making me an easy target for the follow up shot.

Other three times, I was never hit at all.

Outrunning some dude sitting miles away with a sniper rifle isn't really all that hard. I'm much more worried about him seeing me crawling around with Zs all around me.

As far as I remember you don't make noise when you change you stances and differences between different stances is not that big, probably something else caused zombie to notice you.
