How do vehicle saves work?

How do vehicle save's work?

Are they personal to the last person that got in?

and do they save cross server's or just exclusive to you?

Will they appear with you when you load up on that server?

Thanks if anyone knows.

I'm under the impression that the object is server side. That means it persists in the game world when you log out. If you want to keep your vehicle stash it away!

I could be wrong though. Best to get rocket/devteam to tell you.

Pretty sure rocket said elsewhere that vehicle save is triggered upon the exit of the vehicle. Though I do not know if this means that if 4 people are in it and then they exit it, that it will make 4 saves. It could be just last person out. Regardless, if you want to make a force save at a location, Id suggest you have the vehicle empty, get in, then get out and it should make the persistent save.

it works sometimes we spawnd in today to find one of our vehicles without 2 tires or a fixed engine and no gear that had been put in the night before

Yeah basically vehicles are 'saved', but only per server. They don't transfer over to other servers. Also, if the server restarts or crashes, and nobody gets into and out of that vehicle before it restarts or crashes, the vehicle and its contents are not saved and are lost.

Do you mean that if you simply don't get in a vehicle before a restart its lost or do you mean if you get inside the vehicle and it saves, after the restart if you do not get in it again before the next restart to follow it does not save, meaning you have to get in to save it again before every restart?

Currently saving is triggered upon exit of vehicle, upon damage to vehicle. Repair saving is bugged (although in theory damage to a repaired vehicle will save it).

However, there is a bug (there is always a bug). I have recoded 1.5.4 but I'm not releasing it tonight to allow for more testing to confirm it is fixed. In 1.5.4 the mechanic will work as follows:

Get out triggers a position save

Changing your inventory around vehicle/tent triggers vehicle/tent inventory save

Damage triggers damage save

Repair triggers repair save

Disconnecting (back to lobby) triggers save for any vehicle/tent around you

These are forced saves, as opposed to the previous method of batched saves (batching was prone to never happening due to the server getting bogged down). However, the pipe for saving is not checked for confirmation, to allow speed (think of it as UDP versus TCP). Basically ArmA2 just sends the write and assumes that it has been written. That means on a very busy server running multiple instances (NY is a classic example), it is possible (although I have been unable to verify it) that your save doesn't get processed. Hence why I've added the disconnection save as a backup.

I found a car near Cherno yesterday on US1, missing 4 tires. Grabbed lots of gear and stashed it in the car's gear, including 3 tires. Server crashed when I was looking for the 4th tire. Returned after the crash and all inventory was lost from the car (I'd gotten in driver and back seat multiple times, even started engine a few times). At least the car was still there, and I managed to find 4 tires pretty quickly in Cherno.

The inventory issue I think has been confirmed as a bug and may be fixed in next patch.

There were four of us that all got in and out of the vehicle and logged off next to it before going to sleep to find it wasn't there in the morning. This has happened twice now, the chance of someone stumbling across our vehicle in the middle of two different random forests in land I would imagine is very tiny. If the server crashes twice while we're asleep, do we lose the vehicle?
