I was wandering through electro when me and my friend were attacked by two other players. My friend was mowed down by gunfire inside the supermarket and I escaped. This was fine as we were both armed with axes, we were a legitimate threat.

However, after this event, I was attacked by two zombies and my legs were broken. I was crawling with a flashlight towards the bandits, saying over chat that I was injured and that I had a hatchet but was approaching with a flashlight.

One of the bandits ran out of the supermarket and pulled about 8 zombies, he sat down, ignored the zombies, and shot me again. But with my last blood drop I saw him pulled down by the zombies and killed.

A man had literally sacrificed himself to kill an unarmed, critically injured target.

Why? I was no threat. They could have simply ignored me as they clearly saw where I was and was announcing it. Im not moaning, these random encounters make Dayz what it is, but I want to know why someone would do this.

They are small-minded and do not realize that it is about survival and tactics. LIke they are going to get some kind of glorification over the amount of kills they have. Personally I murder innocent civilians because it's what I enjoy doing after gearing out and the fact that you have a hatchet only makes it even more enjoyable. I don't do it to be recognized, in fact I hide in the trees for that reason. I simply keep a nice kill-list going for my own edification. I realize it's hard to fathom for the Reddit crowd here, but some of us genuinely enjoy ruining other people's days(z).

I'm still trying to figure out the whole killing new spawns thing. I've seen many people try to explain why they do it but it doesn't make any sense. Dying as a new spawn certainly doesn't ruin my night. What it does do is make me think "Huh... well that was a waste of time." And then I start again. When I have decent gear and I get into a firefight then dying can actually be fun. My heart rate goes up and I'm like "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" the whole time. That's exciting and fun no matter what the outcome is. Dying as a new spawn is just a waste of everyone's time. I think it's a legit statement to make to say that real PvPers go to the North to fight other PvPers, not to take out easy bait. Or hell, stay in Elektro and Cherno, but kill people who can fight back.

Again, I don't care if I get killed as a new spawn. But it is a concept I struggle to understand, shooting unarmed or very lightly armed people who aren't a threat.

In fact they probably think they enjoy it but to be honest, deep down these people are so desensitized to the fact that they are suffering from some form of mental issue that they can only feel good by commiting acts of violence and making people angry. They know they are operating in an place where their actions are not subject to punishment. They see your anger and death as a way to fill a void in their life that was not filled by their parents or people close to them. It's just what they have become from knowing no matter how revolting they are they can watch women they could never get have sex on the internet. They can lash out against anything and anyone they want without facing any consequences what so ever.

Simply put.... they are the product of the modern era... they are here to stay and nothing you say or do on a public forum is going to make them leave or change their ways. Just deal with it and stop wasting your time with anouncing your issue with them online...

I assure you that some of us genuinely enjoy murdering people in DayZ. It's not "for" anything and there's no reason apart from it just being how I (and others) play this particular game.

While I think there is some truth to what you say, there is also the other possibility that some people are just really not that smart and shoot on sight may be the easiest decision for them. You don't have to think about what the other person might be thinking when you shoot on sight. You don't have to think "Are they going to kill me," "What weapons do they have," "What condition are they in," "Are they being chased by zombies already," "What are their motives for being in the area," "What is the risk to me," and any other questions that assess threat level. Instead they have programmed their minds into "Move mouse, press button." It's just easiest that way for a simple mind.

Why not help? What you said makes no sense. Even leaving him there alone would have been a better option, even if it meant he would probably die. Getting yourself killed just to kill a new spawn is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Hence, why I made the argument above that sometimes it's just stupid people who are killing the new spawns.

Because it's a game.... their death in the game is meaningless... they clearly set out to do what they wanted to because here you are complaining about them on the forums... you have immortalized them by telling the story and explaining your aggravation. Despite what some people think, it has nothing to do with COD or BF3. Those are just games of different types and have nothing to do with how they are.. If you look at the way the games are designed.... they are all heavily military strategy focused but the play style of all the players is pretty much the same. Running around, killing with weapons in ways they were never intended to be used. Hoping up and down to avoid bullets.... Killing themselves to get kills.... etc. It has nothing to do with the games and all to do with the way people are now. In a world where you can do what you want to who ever you want and even if you die you can come back.... do you really even care about rules or being a nice person? If you want a better explanation of this then simply watch the movie Groundhog Day.

In it, he comes to realize that he can do what ever he wants and there is nothing anyone can do about it as he gets a fresh start every morning. It's a god complex in a way.... Well i`ve been on a very philasophical rant for a while so i`ll end it with this

I only snipe Electro and Cherno because i simply dont have anything else fun to do anymore, but i still feel pretty bad when shooting them.

The only thing i need would be some sort of vehicle, heli, car etc. Getting them involves alot of running, taking a break and shooting some people in Electro and Cherno is a really nice break from running.

Let me just say though that I'm amazed you used the proper Than/Then but somehow couldn't get "By." I suppose it was 50/50 with the Then/Than option but you had three options for "By" (By/Bye/Buy). Just a roll of the dice I guess.
