Staff banning for exploits

Recommended Posts

I know this is an alpha, but cheats that people find should be reported to us - not continously abused silently.

Manually banned another 10 people today.

Usually I dont ban people "right-away" who has an illegal weapon, I just take it away. But in this case it was so blatantly done and after careful consideration I banned those involved with the duping and abuse of AS50 TWS weapons (even when warned on global message / VOIP).

Cheating that is blatant abuse on a clan/guild level can put everyone at risk who is involved knowingly. Clearly unallowed weapons will yield bans on all participants (those found with commonly known duped and unallowed weapons).

I will become increasingly strict, I know about a bunch of clans with duped normal items too and I will start eyeing those too. These items will be removed eventually, but if the duping continues banhammer will strike.

As for cheating. If YOU know you have been cheating or duping. Better remove those duped item tent stores in advance or contact us to mention that you have done wrong but will change your ways

Bans that have been given can rarely be reversed, global battleeye bans dont get reversed at all.

This post isn't about admins banning people from specific servers. Ander is DayZ staff who also admins some servers.

What in the world? I've been beta/alpha testing video games for years and I think this might be the first time I've ever seen anything like this. What are you doing? Are you trying to put fear into people so they won't exploit? You want the finished game to have exploits? You are banning people who are exploiting something that CAN be fixed. I reported the simplest way to dupe and you guys approved the post without removing the directions on how to do the dupe and now you are banning people for doing duping of similar methods.

It's an alpha game and banning people and placing fear into the rest of them isn't helping the mod at all.

Example: Back in BF2 testing I figured out how to get into buildings. I reported it and they never fixed it and then the game was released. It took other people a little while to figure it out probably by accident but it eventually happened and then the hack sites got a hold of it and for months it was a HUGE problem. You couldn't play on a server without someone inside of a building incapable of being killed ruining the gameplay until everyone just left. They ended up serving out bans even to people who only used the glitch to kill the people exploiting it. It had little affect and eventually they patched it. I've seen this time and time again. Exploit gets reported but because it's not widely known it never gets fixed then one day it explodes after the game is already released and causes a lot of problems.

You start handing out bans to people who are exploiting things that should and could be fixed during the alpha/beta testing without a public warning all you are doing is hurting the game in the long run. I realize that duping is well known now and absolutely needs to be fixed. I see no problem with banning people for using an exploit when it's causing a problem especially if you can't for some reason figure out how to fix it. Ninja banning a minuscule amount of people compared to how many are using the exploit isn't the best way to go about it.

The game is in testing. This is when you want people to exploit as much as possible so you know what needs to be fixed and your game isn't released with a shit ton of problems. You don't want to be placing fear into people so that exploits aren't figured out and used then the game released with who knows what exploits waiting to explode in use.

I don't think I've played in a week because every where I go I find duped items. Every group of people I've come across in this game are duping. I've played with 6 different clans and they were all duping with similar but mostly different methods that 'seem' like they could all be fixed the same way. I would completely support the banning of exploiters to a particular exploit if there was a public warning in advance to bans being dished out.

I don't want a game/mod to come out of testing and have a bunch of exploits.

This. I actually agree people should be encouraged to try to geometry exploit and such to test then mod to be honest. Banning testers is stupid

This would be fine and logical IF everyone actually were testers. I'd be willing to bet 90% of the player base aren't "testing" just playing for their own enjoyment.

I read the first few parts, and who really cares? Is this guy banning these players from the game or from a server? If it's a server then none of this matters since servers can do what they want with their own rules. Clans duping is a piss off as it's done 24/7.

Well they should understand they're alphatesters and are therefore supposed to test, then!

dear OP where is that quote from?

I would also like to know that. I checked Ander's posting history and couldn't find such a post.

The problem is that DayZ is in alpha-but-not-alpha testing phase.

Everyone gives and has a mixed opinion of in what state it is and some maybe compare to a previous alpha testing they've done.

Others who have no experience just roll in and play the game, conclude it feels pretty god damn finished, every game nowadays is riddled with bugs anyway.

Then of course the utterly insane point of global bans on a mod of a supposed alpha mod. 1 million alpha testers? Had they just gotten a few thousand to test the game the hacking would have been minimal if even any and would have had time to finish all the cool new features before having to battle with the hordes of 10 thousand hackers.

Not my game though so not my issues..

Its probably not the stance that Rocket would take, but if a server admin wants to ban you for anything, he should be able to. I don't care, hes paying for a server for you to use, if your doing something he doesn't want you to do then go ahead admin.

I've read posts from Rocket saying that using duped and hacked in items is not bannable

unless you ran the script that put them into the game. now anders seems to be going against that statement. or am I missing something?

These aren't battleye bans. There are two ways to be globally banned by DayZ staff and by battleye. According to the post it seems there are different ways that staff may choose to globally ban you. I know one way from previous posts of rocket is that your account profile is destroyed and it's supposedly irreversible.

What you read was rocket stating that battleye can't ban you for using duped and hacked in items.

Even if it may not appeal to you, I feel that the admins who own the server should be able to control who and what happens within their server as they do pay for it and you use it. If you cannot play by there rules then don't play on that server.

Worse worse comes they get blacklisted so how does it affect you? If I had server I wouldn't really care what you think is fair in "my" server. I won't be unfair and won't go to the extremes of the people you mentioned above and I personally would want to make it as fair as possible but understand they are paying for it so let em do what they wish.

A guideline needs to be in place obviously as it currently is and if they don't stay within those guidelines let them get blacklisted.

This thread isn't about admins banning people from specific servers. The entire hole in the idea that admins should be able to ban people for whatever is the fact that it can be abused. Say a guy spends days looking for a chopper on that server and his group spends hours repairing the chopper then an admin bans them just because they have a chopper and he wants it. That's not cool at all.

There are so many scenarios that just make it completely impractical to allow admins to ban people for whatever reason they want. You could lose all the items you are storing in a tent just because you killed an admin and he bans you. Items you may have worked months for.

and being banned by dayz staff is a joke because u can change your GUID to another random persons and play on their character.

Well as I said, it may be unfair to you and I would be pissed if it happened to me but they pay for something when you do not. Your using their money to play on the specified server. Is it fair for them to let you play with their money?? You help keep the server up then say you have right in the decisions of that server.

People will be people and you won't be able to restrict these people from banning for the most ridiculous reasons even though I would like to see it happen.

I know what you mean when you say that oh this is a BS ban and it probably is. Who in the hell would ban just because they want a helicopter. I find that immature and childish to take from others just because you can. Although they are entitled to the server because they own it.

It's like walking into someones house and using their television, computer, and you getting mad when they say no it's mine get off.

The worse you can do is get that server blacklisted. Try and understand what I am saying.

Although I must agree with your point that it hurts the players a lot and if something can be done about it, I am all for it.

Well, you are wrong. I've never been banned from DayZ. Have I duped? Yes. Am I sick of the duping? Absolutely. Do I care what you think. I don't give two shits or I wouldn't have told you I've duped in the first place. I haven't played the game in about week in my own choice even though It's still my favorite game of all time just because the duping is such a big problem. Refer to my posting history to find the thread where I've reported how to dupe when I first started playing. They have attempted to fix it but there are different methods that all revolve around the same thing that allows it to happen in the first place. http://dayzmod.com/f...74-duped-items/

I probably won't be playing much at all until the duping is fixed and hopefully a complete hive wipe happens.

I like the quote....

Of course exploits should be found and reported but knowing it's not allowed and exploiting on a clan level on purpose to get better equipment and throw of the balance is obviously not intended by the game designer and should be punished.

I agree with this. In Alpha you find the exploits, you report and move on.

Maybe a new patch comes out and you try the exploit again to see if it's been fixed . Either it is or it isn't. You report that and move on.

Sure it's a game, sure it's a whole lot of fun and damn immersive. But our job is to test and try to break it. Better now than at standalone.
