puppetworx 474 Posted August 11, 2012 I'm fine with banhammering exploiters. You can never be 100% sure you have eliminated all exploits from a game and while features are being added more potential exploits are also added. Therefore prioritizing the patching of exploits over adding features is a ludicrous suggestion (at this stage).Exploiting is using non-intended game mechanics - the use of exploits therefore gives bad data to the developers about how gameplay is affected when they tweak game mechanics, it in turn makes it harder for the devs to create a satisfying game. Disincentivising exploitation through bans means the devs can get on with their jobs of advancing the gameplay. Punishing exploiters also makes sure that other players (who do not have or desire the knowledge to use unintended game mechanics - read: most people) are not disadvantaged and continue to test the game the way it is intended to be played.Stop being so narrow-minded. The most exploiters can ask for is a limited ban of say 3 days, doubling with each repeat offense.

It's the staff who ban people for exploits during the testing phase of a game and only make a pointless post about it in an unrelated thread that might be narrow-minded. The post states it hasn't been reported when it has been. It's been talked about all over the forums including the bug threads. It's not at all normal to ban people for exploits during the testing phase of a game. It seems like some of you guys don't have any idea how rampant the duping is. I've played with groups of people who were duping and there were people part of that group who had absolutely no idea others were doing it. They were using the items being duped but were completely oblivious to the fact that duping was even possible. This is the first post I've seen that has mentioned bans being given for exploits and it was done in a thread most people wouldn't ever read it. What exactly does that accomplish? That's the equivalent of throwing some guys in jail for smoking a joint thinking it's fighting the war on drugs. Up until this post I haven't seen any evidence that duping is bannable or that anyone has ever been banned for it. If the duping can't be fixed easily then make a thread stating bans will be given to anyone caught duping. It's not rocket science, pun intended. The majority of the people who play this game on regular bases are using duped weapons and you think banning people by association is a good idea? I have no problem for banning people for already known exploits that are causing problems on this scale but it should be done correctly and an official public warning be made so that hopefully people will mostly stop. I can't even fathom what Ander was trying to achieve by this. I can only assume he got ticked off at some people while he was playing and dropped the ban hammer on them. It did absolutely nothing and went pretty much unnoticed.I don't think there are that many features that can be added. It seems that most of the work being done lately is fixing bugs and exploits fall into that category. There is a lot of content that could be put in the game but the mod is heavily limited on what kinds of features can be added.I have a hard time believing it would be all that difficult for beta patch to be released that saves the last state of someones character on logout of any method as well as when someone wears clothing. Completely remove the pickup feature that does the animation where you bend down and only pickup one item so that people have to use the G key to pick items up.
