Wall at the border to keep the action inside the map

Recommended Posts

I suggest the construction of a wall at the border of the map, where the vegetation ends and a huge area with empty hills and plains is starting. I have read that despite of the last patches, there is still the possibility to save vehicles outside the border for several days.

So maybe know you think that I am too lazy to go looking for them in the mentioned area and am just frustrated by not finding those vehicles. Well that’s not true, I already had a lot of fun with them and my friends and me are still finding them even inside the map, but what I want to achieve with this suggestion is, that all the stuff that is supposed to enrich the action and gameplay keeps available in this “normal” area.

When I am thinking of such a wall, it could possible look like this from the movie doomsday:

The wall should be high and solid enough, that you can’t climb over it or even destroy it with satchel charges. It could be explained by an attempt to contain the infection. This could also add some claustrophobic aspects.

To prevent helicopters and boats of leaving the “zone”, there could be a warning to return in several seconds or being killed by some kind of anti air/boat weapon.

So what do you think about this?

I have to admit that English is not my mother language and have used the search function but didn’t find something relevant.

I came to this idea by this thread:

Doomsday is a great film, and this would be a brilliant addition to the game. SOMETHING needs to be done to keep vehicles inside the map! Id suggest if helis try and fly over the wall, give them a 30-60 second warning that if they dont turn back theyll be shot down by AA guns on the wall, just to give some leeway to people who accidentally stray over the boarder.

I would like if the "wall" is natural obstacles and not man made. Like the ocean to the south and east, a mountain range to the north and rivers and stuff to the west. In the river you'll get caught in the stream and die, the mountains are to steep to climb and the road tunnels are all caved in and so on. Just to give the illusion and hope to the players that there is a way to get "outside" the map. :)

Of course, some giant mountain range could also do the job. I have no idee what would be easier to implement.

Beans.

Even just an invisible wall would be fine by me though TBH.

Yer 20km of wall might be a little taxing on Mod.

A boundary limit would be fine with a "WARNING YOU ARE LEAVING THE GAME ZONE AND WILL DIE IN 30seconds"

"29"

"28"

etc etc

type of thing

He could make the non textured area a death zone, anything that stays there for longer than five minutes, regardless if saved vehicle or player will get killed/destroyed. Easy to script.

could also script in artillery fire when anyone is within that certain zone no need for a time delay just starts artillery all over the place. i scripted that pretty easy on several mission i made in OP flashpoint and arma

For standalone i think the best option is just to make the gaming area a huge island.

^ This. would make the boats much more interesting if you could circle the entire island for starters. and lets see someone save their chopper before logging out in the middle of the ocean.

Cant do it at the moment because it is a mod. So they would have to alter arma files which they would get there hands smacked by BI if so. But doesnt matter the game is going to be a full blown game soon. Official announcement was yesterday.

I agree. And have two of the islands connected by a huge bridge ( a la Golden Gate). Imagine the battles on that.

I like the idea of a military quarantine / infection containment personally, it opens up possibilities galore... NPC military (not zombies) roadblocks & patrols looking for murderers... "safe zones" with stores & storage, opens up economy possibilities. gives reasons not to be a murderer, adds challenges if you do.

I like the multiple islands idea too tho... 2 different worlds really... 1 with the possibility of civilization existing outside the "zone", and the other where the everything collapsed.

I think that you're looking for "The War Z". If you haven't heard of it... thewarz.com

So today we found a bus outside the map and drove several kilometers straight into the "desert". Is there some kind of limitation to this area? Did anyone ever reach an end end of this giant vehicle hiding place?
