RegulatorNobody 58 Posted August 11, 2012 Do you know who else wants armor? Armor would be an interesting element to the game. Sacrifice mobility and concealment for protection. I just hope it isn't overpowered.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted August 11, 2012 Perhaps you could add a rare add-on for a character being Body armor.Type 1: Kevlar vest: Only protects against 3-4 shots from a pistol to the body. Then dissapears. Or is rendered unsuable. (Could take damage too, and then need to be repaired)Type 2: Enforced vest: Features ceramatic plates. Holds against pistol rounds, Nato ,and the larger 7.62 rounds. Takes 3-4 shots for the larger rounds and about 8-9 pistol rounds.Jackets cannot hold against any .50Would be found only in crash sites and rare as gillie suits or the other basic camo.Edit: Dawbacks, slow movement, easily hungry and thirsty. (As seen in suggestions)Why would a civ want to run around with heavy body armor even if there is an apocalypse? Why not add this instead?

mjp808 18 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) I'm actually surprised there is even an argument about this. If there are going to be dead/zombie soldiers wearing it, you should be able to find and wear it. Of course it will have to have drawbacks, encumberance, condition effecting amount of protection. But realism should be the driving factor, which in turn creates the realistic story. The rest is a balance between whats possible from a programming point of view, and creating engaging, fair, and fun gameplay. There will always be the players who come from the CoD, Battlefield, PvP mindset, and that is an important part of the Dayz experience. But the overall attraction, I think is the way you can relate your gameplay as a story--without the minutia of straightforward role playing type games. But just like you can loot and wear armor in Skyrim or Fallout to increase your hit points, so should you be able to find and wear body armor. The question is its rarity, efficacy, encumberance, etc., so that its fair. And or course it would only protect your torso. And I know scripting and hacking and duping is an important issue, but when talking about these things, it is a completely separate issue. There will always be someone running godmode somewhere, and we cant let that limit our imagination. Edited November 27, 2012 by mjp808
Razmataz (DayZ) 5 Posted November 28, 2012 players who come from the CoD, Battlefield, PvP mindset, [are] an important part of the Dayz experience.I don't think so. They add nothing of value to Dayz. PvP is fine, but you should have a reason for murder other than lust to kill. Those people just take away from the gaming experience.
