Treehead 11 Posted August 9, 2012 That's why a standalone DayZ game is a good idea. BIS can make their ArmA3 as mod friendly as they want, keeping the engine interesting for their military customers, other modders etc. But there is no need for further mods of the DayZ game (a.k.a. hacks) so they can remove the open parts, drop any custom client side scripts without executing them and so on. Shag 90 Posted August 9, 2012 Can we refer to it as the DayZ engine please since it will be developed separately from the ArmA 3 engine, yes they are both based on the Real Virtuality Engine but will obviously be modified so that it is not vulnerable to scripting like the ArmA engine is designed to be, that's one of the main reasons they are going standalone.oh god.as i said above, there is no arma 2 engine, there is no arma 3 engine, there will be no dayz engine, there are games that use an engine, in this case real virtuality (I think 4?)an engine takes care on graphics/lighting/physics etc etc. the scripting engine is seperate from the core game engine. dayz could totally throw away the new scripting engine (which will now be using java?) that will come with arma 3 if it wanted to. games are modular (if built properly) which means you should be able to remove and bolt on features as you wish.
danlegend 16 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) http://kotaku.com/59...-a-shooter-gameBohemia Interactive is likely to bid on the Army contract, as is America's Army 3, which lost to VBS2 during the last—and controversial—selection process. The contract isn't large by Pentagon standards—only $44.5 million over five years. But even if the money isn't huge, the winning contractor will enjoy the cachet of publishing a game that will have a prominent role in military training around the world. Not only is VBS2 also used by the U.S. Marine Corps, Special Operations Command (SOCOM), Britain, Canada, Australia, and various NATO nations, but the Army has turned it into a jack-of-all-trades trainer for everything from cultural awareness to IED detection. The Army's new shooter game will be used for a lot more than shooting.the Army has turned it into a jack-of-all-trades trainer for everything from cultural awareness to IED detection.the Army has turned it into a jack-of-all-trades trainer for everything from cultural awareness to IED detection.cultural awareness to IED detection.Yea, im gonna say based on that 50 million Arma's doin a pretty good job being open client. nicraM 137 Posted August 9, 2012 For BI to fix this problem, they would first have to care. They don't.
keefehb 17 Posted August 9, 2012 It won't be full proof, but I'd place money on not being able to create mods for DayZ making it a bit more difficult to hack than it is at the moment..

ZomboWTF 527 Posted August 9, 2012 Put simply, hacking is easy on the arma 2 engine because shit can happen client side and the server basically says 'ok, lets do that!'.BIS made a shitty system and as a result hacking (as we all know) has basically ruined DayZ at this point. Now, rocket has hinted that the standalone will be on arma 3's engine. My question is, will arma 3 be as bad?If the answer is yes, the project should just be left to die now.simply put norocket had only normal scripting possibilities with dayZmod, equal to the possibilities of the hackers, with the standalone, he will have full control over the engine bohemia will give him, since he will be the leading developer of a game from bohemiahe will be able to restrict scripting from clients, both over BattleEye and his changes to the engine, maybe the servers wont allow scripting from clients at all, and he will give scripting acces only to the server and the admin through the serverhackers will find a way, thoughmaybe not as outrageous often or easy or obvious as in arma2, but trust me, one or two will come along someday, the only thing we can hope for is a tool for the server admins they can identify and ban hackers for all time withi will definitely buy the standalone, to play, to help with bug reports and suggestions, and with some moral boost for rocket if i can, since i think he has the right ideai only hope that bohemia wont force him to add any of the stupid addicting stuff every game on the internet relies on, like levelling or other artificial progress not gained by the players experience itself, since this is what makes the game so much more interesting for me than any other game at the moment
deathcon5 3 Posted August 12, 2012 I just don't see how he is going to be able to get rid of the client side processes(to reduce hacks) and still keep server load and bandwidth issues in check. Not with a 50 player server. They should pull in some serious outside talent and completely start from scratch with hack prevention and smoothness of gameplay of utmost importance.
