Why this mod is failing

Recommended Posts

Who said anything about snipers in cherno? Stay on topic dude. And I've never once been shot at on the beach after respawning, anyhwere.

I haven't either. Because I avoid Cherno. And I tend to get away from the beach. Because EVERYONE knows that the beach is a deathtrap.

why do I point out Cherno? Because Cherno is ON THE BEACH. As is Elektro. They're the first cities everyone goes to. And hence, the ones where people camp.

Same as the Balota airfield. Those three places are murderer haven. If you've never been killed on the beach, you either play on completely deserted servers, are cautious as fuck, and also insanely, insanely lucky.

Read most of, think you're wrong. And since when is the most popular(probably) mod ever(probably) failing? I mean, do you decide that or where did that little statistic come from?

OP,

The problem is not bandits, playstyle, or even the alpha state of the mod. The problem is actually boredom. All the content in this game last around 50 hours, maybe. This includes learning the map, looting, getting geared up, playing with cars (and now with choppas), and then hunting other players. After those 50 hours, you figure things out and the only challenging thing left is killing other players. If you are a douche, of course, you will get hours and hours of fun killing others, especially noobs with your L33t gear.

The solution is simple: new maps. Its easy to make new maps for this mod and that's the only content that is really needed. With new maps, you have the entire game cycle above recreated. You have to learn the map, loot (you can also add unique new items for the new maps), get geared up, play with cars (add some new cars), and then hunt players. All this will take a lot of new hours.

All of that, sans the solution, is what I've been trying to say since the start of the thread. Murderers are the poison that's slowly killing this game. But they stem from boredom. Because of no mid-game content. These murderers make people who play the game for non-boredom reasons, play it as bandits and KOS.

The current amount of murderers have already skewed the entire communities playstyle.

well OP, my expectations coming into this one were pretty similar to yours. i guess i watched the wrong youtube videos or something. so, imo, your logic is dead on, and matches my experience.

what surprises me is the high number of ppl that responded to your post without reading it. only because this community is uncommonly awesome. idk, maybe it's because we see this thread 10 times a day, every day. it is old news.

i am going to disagree though. the game isn't suffering because of what it is. it is thriving.

the more exposure it gets, the more will be playing. huge potential awaits. i'd like to see this game flourish for what it actually is; deathmatch with zeds thrown in for flavor.

while this isn't really what i expected, i believe the game is succeeding because of bandits. not failing.

Sure new maps and content would be great, still won't stop me from kosing anyone I don't know though.

Game isn't failing, numbers don't lie. The game wouldn't be growing if it was "Failing".

200k players, avg. lifetime is rising.

Your argument is invalid.

No, yours are, because you base everything on the "spot price", that is on the current statistics, while completely oblivious to the real cause behind the numbers. They are caused by basic word of mouth marketing, and it works like this: "I tested something cool and tell it to my friend. Now my friend want's to try it too", and sales rise. However, it doesn't mean that the game is perfect or even good. Saying that a game is good because people are curious about it, is like saying that the cause for higher child birth rates is due to a higher amount of storks in the same area. It's called "causation", and you should look it up.

Of course my friend's gonna try it, but then, after being griefed one time too many, he will simply quit. I sure as hell won't continue playing a game with KOS as the only viable mentality, not because I can't survive, but because it's plain boring. The game mechanics should open for more options than banditry or KOS when meeting other survivors, like it was in the beginning. That was what started the word of mouth in the first place. Without it, it's just going to be another DM game.

I do love the way things stay tense with PvP, but as it is now, it's just boring.

Also, if hacking, duping and exploits are weeded out, I’m sure it will also level the playing field.

All the proof you need that this mod ISN'T failing is the top three stats on the DayZ mod main page.

END OF LINE.

God someone's menstruating, if it bothers you don't play it, it's a free mod the only value it holds it the time you spent on it. Bandits are what makes it a survival for me zombies are almost completely avoidable, bandits actually add a serious threat that really challenges your gameplay. My suggestion for you quit bitchin' get back in the kitchen and wait till the mod is finished and there is more options and hopefully less bandits.

If you can't beat 'em - Join 'em, don't post a thread crying about it.

So stupid.

You don't have to be a bitch.

I can see what the OP is trying to say, he is right. I was friendly once but not anymore, I stopped trying to approach people, help them.. any kind of contact is impossible simply because it's not worth your trouble. There's nothing enforcing teamplay in this mod, but I'II be patient and see where it leads.

I wish they were somewhat more friendlyness to this mod.

Why do you think there is PvP? Because we got nothing else to achieve! Simple is that!

Plus the fact that it's fun!

It's called 'join a clan.' That's how civilizations developed. People formed clans with people they could trust (usually family) and went to war with other clans. They didn't walk around looking for randoms calling out "Friendly???" If you didn't form a clan then you better have awesome skills because it is hard to survive solo.

And getting shot on the beach doesn't happen often? Ahahahahha. Wanna know why 'Any friendlies in cherno?' is a meme? Because on populated servers there is ALWAYS someone waiting in the grass around Cherno to shoot noobs.

Protip: There are no spawnpoints inside Cherno. If you are there, it's because you chose to go there. You always have the option to go somewhere else after spawning.

Of course, but if you have a server with 50 people and you join a clan with 20 people then there's 30 people on the server thats possibly dangerous and thats bad since world is to big and 30 people is to few.

Almost any server with 80 people + just keeps stuggeling and its annoying.

So usually sticking with friends you know is whats best, but you also want the possibility to meet someone and yet not sticking around with them, trade supplies or just stick together, I shouldnt have to form a clan just because I "know" I will get a bullet in my head for trying to say hi.

I want something that enforces teamplay, I'II just gonna wait for it, joining a clan is gonna take away alot of action and the intense of meeting a player since most of em would be your other clan member roaming around whos your not grouped with.

I hope rockets idea of EVE online server get implemented (one massive server) then I'd be joining a clan.

What? No it's not. That's a statement. It's not the name of something. DAFUQ?

I just came into this thread, read most of the op.. got the gist of it.

Overall, a little short sighted and a little too quick to judge.

This is more of a wait and see, were in it for the long haul kinda thing.

This game is not failing, its actually doing the opposite right now.

Its turning 100,000 members nearly every few weeks.

When I started a month or 2 ago it was around 500,000.

Its Now pushing towards 1 million.

That's a pretty big milestone in such a short time since it went public.

And here's the kicker.... its not even a game... its an alpha stage proof of concept for a future release of a game.

Rocket was very very smart for ill bet UN-intentionally, releasing a mod in alpha stage to the public.

He has created a massive fan base and essentially created free publicity driven by the community

for something that doesn't even really exist yet. (future game)

He also has a massive resource of alpha testers and think tank and the bastard isn't even paying them! lol.

Thanks to the community forums.

Now pit this against.. oh lets say Bioware.

MASSIVE game developer, HUGE resources, money and some of the best of the best in the industry at their disposal.

Owned by EA!

Their mmo baby "the old republic" is tanking, From 1.3million subscribers, down to Id say from whats been said... between 550,000-700,000 and its still dropping, all within 7 months since launch.

Why?

Because Players make or break the game.. no players.. no game.

Players increasing at the rate they are, is proof of whats failing or not failing.

You dont get to decide if this mod is failing or not, because you are not 944,000 players.

If players start leaving in droves of 100,000 every month or so... id still not agree with you.

Not while its just a mod of Arma 2.

Because fundamentally that's all it is... and its getting closer and closer to hitting a brick wall as far as evolving goes.

Because there's only so much rocket can do without access to the source code.

So it has to leave arma 2, and thats a big game changer.

It changes EVERYTHING.

What we currently have will be gone... dust.

But out of the ashes... something new will be born.

So all this "the sky is falling the sky is falling" talk... is all for nothing.

Your playing a tech demo... not a game.

Its a long road ahead... and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Give it a year and then come back and see if you still feel the same way.
