Thortimer 37 Posted July 29, 2012 When you're in game, it can be hard to coordinate two people looking at one target. What if there was a way for one player to focus another's attention on a location. For example, two players are approaching the firestation together. One has taken cover up across the street and notices another survivor hiding in some foliage. He presses a button starting an animation that is just your character pointing where his eyes are focused. The second player notices this animation and focuses on player one. A "Focus at Point" option comes up from the wheel menu. Clicking on it instantly focuses the second player's vision to the tree line where the third survivor is hidden. This is also beneficial for the third survivor. Were he to be noticing, he would see that another survivor has pointed directly at him and there can be no doubt that he has been spotted. Better bugger out. StormSurge (DayZ) 20 Posted July 29, 2012 This would be a good idea but im not sure if such an animation exists in Arma2, If it does not it would be a serious pain in the ass for the developers to make a custom animation for this game.
Thortimer 37 Posted July 29, 2012 But it should definitely be considered for a standalone version where they can program whatever animation they want.Imagine how your heart would race when you saw a survivor pointing at you from across a field, his two friends close in tow. Knowing they've seen you.
CHOSENMARINE 43 Posted July 29, 2012 Why can't you just use a compass like a normal person? Or just say where he is -_-
Thortimer 37 Posted July 29, 2012 Why can't you just use a compass like a normal person? Or just say where he is -_-If you talk, he knows your there and the element of surprise is ruined. Compasses don't point to people, they point to north.Pointing would be for instances where you needed your partners to focus directly at what you're focused at, and you don't want to give away your position (or you're not one for using meta-gaming devices like mumble and teamspeak). So this is simply a tool for increased immersion into the DayZ world. nobody 31 Posted July 29, 2012 the most of people which are playing together are using 3rd party programs for communications (TS3,skype,mumble) so i think he will simply say where is that "bastard"..

Coordination is everything. The ability to single out a target North 25 degrees east, just to the left of the power pole, is much more satisfactory then getting "insta-locked-on" due to an ingame function.Im not against pointing or gesturing animations, but using them to lock-on to their view is a bit unneccessary and unreal imo. Just use the items given to you to locate a target.

Maybe focusing on the point should only place your vision in the general area of focus, like how someone would attempt to get your attention silently. What I'd like to see more of is increased ingame communication without voice. Maybe even a set of silent tactical gestures.
Haplo (DayZ) 44 Posted July 30, 2012 i agree with this post to some extent. pointing shouldn't add any benefit other than that, thus the focus or lock on you're talking about is a bit extreme.a simple gesture could work well, but no more than that

xDIx Revenge 51 Posted July 30, 2012 Yeah, I guess if you can't look where someone is pointing, it's your own fault.I just really like the idea of integrated silent communication within the game.Gestures would be awesome. Id love to have a set of tools to gesture people towards me, call for them to stop, and move on or look at an area. Im still entirely against a game feature kind of "doing this for you" and right now you can kind of realistically point. If i need to show the direction for team mates without compasses or just the lazy ones (im normally the navigator) i just find the direction on my compass, state that, stand up and point my gun in the direction we are headed. Everyone else points the same way, and we are off.Using my hand would be nice for immersion, but wont change anything. However having the abilit to gesture someone to come towards me could help "enemy" interactions, kind of making gestures to show peace. I do know there is a salute and surrender animation, but they are so dodgy, and pause your player, so you risk dying doing so.Meta-gaming is allowed, Rocket has stated that. Its nothing bad, and infiltration in team-speak servers is allowed as well. I find it awesome, and i wont stop using it until an ingame communication is added (radio's etc.) that actually make team coordination not just a "blah blah here we are" on direct.
