Fefe (DayZ)

Don't shoot! I'm friendly! -holds hands up-

Recommended Posts

From my two days of playing DayZ I have managed to learn how to evade zombies by crawling around and also was plotting with three other strangers to build a car only to be shot by other people taking us as enemies.

I feel like it would be simpler for me and others who wish to survive by having a feature that puts our hands up. When we wish to return to weapon mode then we could have an animation of us getting out our weapon slowly to show that we're going for our weapon.

There's a surrender button that you have to bind yourself. It's all the way at the bottom. How do I know this? A guy mugged me, made me drop my weapons, and waited patiently while I bound my surrender key to put my hands on my head. A gentlemanly highwayman,

There is a way. The ¨surrender¨ key, think its numpad 3 by default.

Oh, everyone said it already...

There is something similar. If you double tap left control you lower your weapon. In all honesty though, it really wouldn't make a difference unless they were your friends in the first place. Most likely they are bandits and will shoot you regardless.

The issue with the surrender button is that enemies think you gave up, instead of insisting your friendly, even if you say so over mic or chat.

If there's someone we don't trust, one of us will hide in a bush, and draw the guy shooting at us up where we are, then we kill him.

The only way to be "friendly" is with the crossbow. It incapacitates everyone I shoot, and I just leave them there, while I use the time to sprint out of sight. They can bandage themselves afterwards. I could of course kill them with my sidearm, but I'm actually trying to play the game, not pretend it's Counter Strike.

It could be nice to "lock" someone's ammo after incapacitatiing them. You could heal them, find out their intentions and return their ammo or chose not to. (You can take their stuff, while they are incapacitated, but I don't have space or time for that.) I only incapacitate people, because I have no other means of contact and finding out their intentions.

Maybe make a action like so, when someone points a gun at you from behind, then they can use a action to let them 'bind your hands' from behind, literally making you unable to interact other than walking around. It will require rope for them to do so, and the bindings will wear off within a few minutes if the binded person gets away from the people who binded him.

It's easier to use this on a incapacitated player, and the reasoning is that the 'player is killed' message will alert his allies.

So basically.

120 seconds of binding, timer does not start until the captured person escapes the binding person within 10 meters.

After the person escapes, they cannot take any action for 2 minutes, until they get their rope binding off.

They can hide somewhere and initiate a action to 'break loose' which speeds up the break out time by 2 per second.

Is that possible to do using Arma's engine?

Yes, it's called restraining and it is done on another arma mod, called CLR (Chernarus Life Revolution). In the mod you can also stun another player by swinging his rifle at him. CLR is actually an excellent example of how to make a game competitive and cooperative without removing the PvP aspects. However, it is also a little "gamey", compared to Dayz.

CLR has two teams, cops and civs. Civilians can play as gangster or businessmen and the cops have a hard time figuring out which style you play. Cops can search, restrain and send you to prison. Both teams can build bases/checkpoints.

Basically adding handcuffs in the game would be a interesting mechanic, but no idea how bad it would take it if people mass 'arrest' everyone that joined and made them run around having their hands binded.

It would be a horrible, yet beautiful move, for this game. Along with being able to gut zombies and other players, and with the possibility to take water in the wisky bottle (with a high chance of geting the infection; worthful if you're relatively close to a hospital and right next to a water source when you need to drink... also, there should be added a way for the not canned food to expire (slowly, but surely), and change it's state... along with animal meat becoming zombie meat if you were attacked and you had raw meat on you or in your backpack... and adding water purifier into the mod would, also, be great to see... and being able to punch when you have no weapon (really helpful, but a verry low damange, yet a big enough push back to escape from a zombie ambush... or evade from being forced by someone to do what they want...

No hands up will save you from virtual death. Death has no consequences in game so nobody gives f*ck. You should get used to it if you play on those kiddie infested public servers. If you want a decent game look for a private hive or a community server that has "behaviour rules". Those players think when an apocalypse is going on they can live like there was no civilization at all, matter of fact most of the peoples energy would flow into reainstating a makeshift society with rules to have a stable environment to live in. Total chaos is not in our nature.

Unfortunately all animations like holding your hands up  are pointless, because 99.9% of DayZ will kill you anyway, because people don't care about your animations, they kill you for loot and for fun, also nobody in DayZ, except for those 0.001% of players who are actually trying not to kill everybody on sight, will risk a life trying to force you to put your hands up and it's like a 50-50 lottery, "maybe he will put those hands up, maybe he will kill me", so nobody will risk that much. This is the most cancerous thing in DayZ and we should be focusing on this, how to eliminate killing people just like that, like in CoD. I've heard idea about bulding bases that will need more than 1 player to build it, then defend it and from all the ideas to prevent KoS IMO this is the best one, If I won't see this in Standalone I will do a huge facepalm then I will run to the kitchen, grab a knife and cut my ballz off.

The current surrender key in the mod requires you to have no primary weapon, or else it just puts your hands up for a couple seconds then automatically puts them down. I think it should automatically throw your weapon down if you put your hands up, and it should already be binded instead of forcing the player to find and bind it himself.
