3rdparty 229 Posted July 28, 2012 Why would any game have to be censored at all? They're just games.that is my point but my forum intuition tells me you didnt read the entire OP sorry if i am incorrect.

ratfever 27 Posted July 28, 2012 So I would say that you have seen a horror film that has far grimer scare/shock value then this game holds, and that if ye were to equate the horror of this game to a film, itd be a pretty lame horror film.To think as well that the horror aspect with zombies will not be improved beyond its current level.. :) I wouldnt bet on it.I've always preferred a deeper feeling of horror, rather than just simple "Boo!" and gore scares. I'd love to watch a movie like this game, look at The Walking Dead, I Am Legend, or The Book of Eli (with zombies). Those films give an authentic feel of suspense, rather then selling itself out for a cheap scare.
hunterkilla 67 Posted July 28, 2012 I think this question would need to be asked in about 10+ years time. When you are totally immersed including full vision, you have to move and walk around and get senses like smell, touch and temperature. THATS when we have to think about how immersed ina game we are and how i will affect us. Then will we be able to detach ourselves from whats in the game and whats in real lifeAs it is now, we get attached to our on screen character but we know they will die and someone will take the beans... we just start again.... Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted July 28, 2012 Thank you, for skim reading!I did read it completely, just so you know.Nobody is even attempting to censor the game, however, so this topic is pointless.
N0DemonZ 17 Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) The title of the thread is very misleading since you aren't asking "Should DayZ be censored", you are more talking about the concept of games getting to the point where they have to be censored since games will inevitably get to the point of realism as it said in your link, as if it's a dream.I think eventually it might get to that point, but god knows when we would arrive at such a point. On a side note, that site is pretty damn good. Not just authentic sense aesthetics.

But definitely not off topic. Im asking whether a game like this should even consider censorship seeing as its striving for survival simulation.. in a zombie apocalypse.YEeeea it does look good doesnt it, i think they're stock piling interviews from game designers, where be rocket was my first question?? N0DemonZ 17 Posted July 28, 2012 Im asking whether a game like this should even consider censorship seeing as its striving for survival simulation.. in a zombie apocalypse.Dayz has no reason to be Censored.Maybe a Survival Zombie Apocalypse game will come along and when you play it is like a dream.Where you will fully connect with the character/avatar you are playing and when you make a decision you have to stop and take it seriously because you treat that character as if it is YOU in a dream. That is what it is suggesting that they would want the games to eventually be like. But we are a long long way off anything like that. So I would say the title is still misleading :P
ratfever 27 Posted July 28, 2012 Well i havnt seen I Am Legend. But I can tell ye a huge base of Walking Deads base comes from the powerfully grim comic book, which makes the TV series look like a weeping pussy. And Book of Eli is, although not so grim, is littered with blatent suggestions of rape, torture and slavery.I haven't read the comics, so I wouldn't know. But i do enjoy the show. You are meant to survive the zombie apocalypse in this game, This game already has the ability of slavery (I believe we've all seen that video). This game is a sandbox, if you want to capture fresh spaws and force them to fight to the death, that is a possibility. I do not see what needs to be added, that would not be unneccessary and drive players away.

So I would say the title is still misleading :PXD I disagree tbh, not in terms of the aesthetic immersion, that certainly is a while off. But if ye are a long time gamer, ye will know that the treatment (or better your sentiments) towards a character can still develop without full sensual immersion. An RPG for example, Final Fantasy 7 would be a perfect analogy if ye have played it, (ill think of another if ye havnt). And many books, films and music creates a very similiar feeling of sentiment.Whats different about this is that there is no storys or switches. there is no NPC's. Can a truly diverse set of circumstances occur in this if sandbox human behaviour is as free as possible. Sooo i think its still on topic :P

And so far i dont think ye can do that (but i would like to see this video), with no real capture/imprisonment mechanics, or incentive for new spawn not to go "fuck it, respawn/run blindly/turtle walk to freedom!" N0DemonZ 17 Posted July 28, 2012 Books and films at this present time are different to games because they can achieve something games cannot at this current point in time.Yes you can connected with a Character now but they aren't trying to talk about the simple thing of connecting with a character. They also mean connecting with it on a personal and emotional level to where you take the decisions as if it is You. That is what they mean by it is a Dream. These type of games wouldn't have a main character set in stone, You would create the main character.Dayz while you have a character and a free world in some aspect to do as you please, I feel it is not in depth enough to have the need to be censored. The only way I see a game being censored in anyway on any level is if they have some sort of shocking choice or option in the game, for example the ability to rape or physically abuse one's wife (In a game where you could marry someone for example). Why be it pointless? this is the "General Discussion" Forum?

That can be achieved with future tech virtual simulation, but the idea of unlocking sandbox human behavior. The kind of scenarios that make horrors and stories unique are due to the variety of human behavior that is explored. There are no NPCs on this, no unfolding storys, its up to the players, but how can that be truly diverse if there is limitations on their behavior?
