Life is not valuable now?

Recommended Posts

Life is not valuable now. At all.

It's so easy to get all the needed loot after you die so there's in fact no need in surviving.

I know a lot of ppl do the following - after they die they go to a big city (elektro for example) go to (for example) church - loot it. then disconnect. go to other server. loot it again. then disconnect. go to other server....till they get all the needed loot (it takes 10-10 mins) and now they have everything the had before they died. What's the reason to survive? Why is it so easy to get all the needed loot?

I think in a game like that the loot (especially good and top weps and so) must be extremely rare. You must be very happy to find something useful.

Now it is "oh f*ck this banded killed me. Now i have to waste another 30 min to collect everything again!"

and again about the weps - yesterday i enterned the barn and found 7! (SEVEN) weapons in 2 minutes. wtf? is it really interesting to play like this? yesterday it was like "well i found so much shit how can i take it all..." and it must be ' OH MY GOSH I FOUND A WEAPON I'M HAPPY LIKE A LITTLE BITCH"

u don't feel like u are in post Apocalypse world when u play i think. something must be changed. I suggest decreasing loot A LOT and increasing the value of ur life

im not whining or complaining or something. i like the mod as it is. but i think it can be MUCH more interesting and funny to play.

just wanted to know what u all guys think about all this.

I agree loot, and weapons especially is too common. It should be an achievement to find a rifle.

Personally I don't care about people who disconnect, for me this game is not about beating a high score, it's about being immersed and have fun with the game.

Didn't the last patch make it so that loot dissappears if you spawn in that area? Making the server hopping lameness not work?

Suggesiton: When joining a new server, you can't loot anything other than food/water for 15 minutes. This would stop people from server jumping I suppose.

Weapons have always been common, you obviously just weren't looking in the right places, you've always been able to have a primary weapon within 5 minutes of starting at any spawn point.

so that's the reason i created this topic (not server jumping)

weapons mustn't be so common. mustn't

Agreed. Game is looking so easy after several days of playing. Need to make more rarable items like water bottle and knife.

Well I had a lot of trouble finding a decent weapon yesterday in the town of Chernagorsk.

I stayed on the same server all day (got killed more times than ever before, btw).

It became clear that something was not quite right.

I'm going to check if it happens again, the only trouble is, if I manage to stay alive for a normal time-span (whatever that is), would that change how things spawn compared to repeatedly getting killed ?

Thanks.

Life is not valuable now. At all.

why "now" though? it never was. that's the primary reason there are so many PKers down South, they don't value their char, because it's so easy to find equipment if you die

it'll take a lot of fiddling with weapon spawns and player spawns to change this, maybe in beta :sleepy:

Yes, but unfortunately immersion will be destroyed if everyone you meet is running round with night vision goggles and automatic rifles!

Server jumping for loot? I doubt that is too much of an issue considering the time it can take entering a server these days. I'm pretty sure most people stick to the server they're on.

But hey, if you decrease the loot pawns, maybe people WILL start server hopping to get gear?

There has been quite a lot of complaints about missing loot the last few weeks, I see no point in lowering it further.

Use the whole f'king map instead of camping the main cities - then your 'life value' increases significantly.

Server jumping for loot just seems like a sad idea, breaks the immersion to not find this stuff as you progress.

Life might not be valuable to begin with but after finding some semi-decent gear I became incredibly cautious and dying lost me all that hard work, such is life I guess. There’s a difference between finding a Lee Enfield in every other farmhouse and having plenty of food, water, a full set of survival gear and an M16 with acog scope and plenty of ammo that you could potentially lose at any moment due to carelessness and would take a long time to fully replace.

Sure, it's not hard at all to find a Lee-Enfield or a Winchester. But I think that's fine.

You'll find that life has a lot more value when you go inland and find a M107 or a silenced MP5 or NVGs or.. the list goes on.

Life isn't valuable 10 minutes after spawning because you don't have anything. The Winchester was good, now its loud (thats fine, it needed it) so I can't say I'd be thrilled at getting one. 10 mins in Elektro means the Firestation, Shop, Bar, Office, Hospital and Power Plant can all be hit. After that you should have ALICE, Med Supplies, Food, Drink, 1911/Revolver a good chance of a Compass/Map/Bino's and likely a rifle. Hell even the chance of a DMR because the Firehouse is a military building.

But why be cautious in those first 10 mins? Spending any more time than absolutely necessary in Elektro or Cherno is a death wish. I'd rather rush it and GTFO than spend my time sneaking around. Most the time you can evade the zombies okay and if there are other people, you try to sneak a little bit.

Once you're up north though... I picked up a M4A1 Holo w/ M203 and some others in my group have a M4 SD, a DMR, a Mk48 LMG, a M240 LMG. - You can all bet we don't want to die.

Life 'value' is based entirely off the gear you carry. Thats it. Reducing the spawn rate of rifles - yes I see your point, cherishing a Lee Enfield is a cool thought. But its more likely to get people banding together and farming the NW airfield barracks on either passworded or otherwise quiet servers, because thats what people on the internet do - They make it easy for themselves. Same reason why its so easy to Pirate movies.

It's not that life is not valuable in DayZ, it's that death is not THAT punishing.

As has been pointed out you can get yourself decently equipped within half an hour of respawning at the coast.

I'd like to see weapon spawns reduced, so that a rifle or a pistol with ammo would actually be considered great loot. The 'survival' items (matches, knife, compass) should be far more easier to acquire than firearms and ammo IMO.

Anyone who thinks server hopping is easy should try it repeatedly. I end up having to server hop about every 5 mins cause I have a crap connection, and I usually can't connect at all to the first 5 servers I try. Then I get to play for maybe an hour before I end up disconnected, and the cycle begins again.

Besides, I know from experience, if you re-connect inside a building that hasn't had someone near it for a while, there will be no loot. Takes time for loot and zombies to spawn in, and if you're near it while it's empty it will not get filled again until you've moved far enough away.

Making things more rare wouldnt stop this kind of gamey behaviour... they would just server jump for a bit longer and they would still have all they wanted, whilst all of us who dont play gamey like that would get punished.

I think that you shouldnt be able to join another server within 15 minutes of logging out of another server.

Sure, it would be a bit of a pain, but not that much. Especially if you make it so that this only applies if you have actually been in-game and not just stuck on the "waiting for server response" screen

Server hopping is a reality, I could if I wanted to .... From click to running in-game maybe 1 min. I am sure others with faster connections could jump from server to server in 30 seconds.

As for people valuing life, this is good. As expected it is a consequence of the good gear!

But we must keep in mind, the internet is FULL of people who simply love bringing despair and suffering to others hard work... Meaning you might have worked 15 hours to get where you are, but the guy you are facing off against might have invested 25, simply so he COULD ruin your day

I agree, that the game would be MUCH more realistic if ALL weapons were extremely rare.

Think about it. In a town like Electro, thinking about a real life situation, you could maybe find a couple of pistols and a winchester if you're lucky, assuming you searched every house in the entire town. Everything valuable would have been taken away by other survivors when the zombie virus first started.

I think the big towns at the coast shouldn't even spawn any good weapons. Only some pistols and an occasional winchester or something. And ammo should be very rare too, so you should ACTUALLY think about whether to shoot at ANYTHING. The current system tries to make you think about shooting, but ammo is actually so common, you can just shoot everything to hell and back.

I think it would be cool if you had to go very far north to find any good weapons. It currently seems like there is no reason to go north at all except to get to the airfield.

I've said the same thing elsewhere - loot items need to be a tad scarcer (or their number needs to vary every time it spawns).

I think that players' packs need to be randomized as well - so that when you do spawn you might have very little ammo and plenty of water and food or a lot of water, no food and some ammo etc etc etc.

It needs to be tough, its a survival situation. Also, the majority of the map is a CIVILIAN zone, so weapons should be accordingly assigned. Euros like to state that this is a 'euro game'...ok then...no AKs and AR15s - its not in the US, mmm'kay :P S, puny shotguns, handguns and stone throwers since you socialists don't allow citizens from owning proper weapons.

Anyways, OP has a very valid point and hopefully this will be addressed eventually.

I like to think that we will eventually see some sort of class system.

Be it at the spawn screen;

Police Officer

Medic

Factory Worker

Forestry Worker

Each class would start with a varied loadout, obviously the cops would have a pistol or revolver, and ammo... maybe a small first aid kit.

But factory workers might already have tools, flashlight, various other implements to repair a vehicle quickly (as opposed to having to scavenge parts)

Forestry worker might have a map, compass, matches, knife.... But no gun.

So we would quickly see the urgent need for teamwork right off the get-go... but being careful not to have a super soldier class that spawns with TOO much good kit.
