Gallagher 20 Posted July 25, 2012 I was thinking about it....why arent we able to dig holes with a shovel and put some stuff in? There could be some loose soil on the earth so people who look closely are able to find them and dig them out. They work just like Tents but with less space to put stuff into. Maybe just 20 Items possible.Think about... you could hide some stuff for exampleA rifle (10)Ammunition (2)Food (4)Some other stuff (4)in the earth and dig them later out if you find another shovel
3rdparty 229 Posted July 25, 2012 Underground bases already being discussed and will be hopefully implemented soon XDIt is a good idea XD
T.Irish 10 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Considering the maps are pre made , it would be rather hard to code in a system like this, Though i am fond of the idea, it would be a bitch to code in a way to make the terrain to code into a crater. thatcommiekid 57 Posted July 25, 2012 Dig lil holes and store things in them.... I AM THE ULTIMATE SQUIRREL!SUCCESS
Element47 2480 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) this makes me dream of dual-wielding my trusted Rusted Hatched of Bleeding and a Bent Shovel of Infection....great idea btw. you dont need to change the geometry, just spawn a small interactable pile of dirt on the ground. we need to see improvement regarding placement of objects, other than that it shouldnt be a hassle to implement Edited July 25, 2012 by e47
H1t0w3r 19 Posted July 25, 2012 Great idea, maybe add a shovel as a new loot-able item required to digs these holes?
Gallagher 20 Posted July 25, 2012 You could add some grenades to a hole to make a trap. xD

drseptapus 49 Posted July 25, 2012 I´ve read the underground base thing several time now.Are we talking about james bond underground bases or squirrel holes?I'm curious too. Maybe buildings are just going to have basements?

3rdparty 229 Posted July 25, 2012 I´ve read the underground base thing several time now.Are we talking about james bond underground bases or squirrel holes?.. something roughly in between but in reality closer to a squirrel hole than a james bond bunker. and although the same image may not be occuring in each others 3rd eye, i think we can agree on reflection that james bonds bunker would be luxurious beyond the point of survival. crimsonsoul 5 Posted July 25, 2012 Why would you need a shovel? There's an entrenching tool already in dayz
kovalhuk 19 Posted July 25, 2012 I Like the idea, one day I saw a video on youtube where a guy was teaching to do a safe using a steel barrel into a ravine the entrance was covered with those nets, which mimic vegetation (do not know the name of that stuff). -Cdn-Chard 96 Posted July 25, 2012 The same mechanics used for hiding bodies could be used for creating little cache's of gear.I guess the big question is how Rocket intends to track/manage/archive these holes. We don't want the server to have to process hundreds of holes holding thousands of objects, so something like the tent save mechanism would have to be used. Maybe use the entrenching tool to "dig a hole". Once completed, a mound of dirt appears and you interact with it in the same way you do as with a tent, requiring that the hole be saved to survive a server restart.Another idea might be to use existing non enterable buildings in the same way. They're available to store objects in and save automatically. That way anyone can use them.
