DAS1337 20 Posted July 24, 2012 Freedom of speech ? Il call them hamsters if i really want toIt's not freedom of speech when you actually don't know the difference, it's just not being educated on the subject. Thank you OP for clarifying, as I didn't actually know the difference. Now I do. Instead of being an ignorant prick and trying to make up an excuse as to why I don't want to use that knowledge, I will just be thankful.
SupaFly1983 52 Posted July 24, 2012 Being a firearm enthusiast in real life, I often cring when reading some of the storys on these boards. "I only had 2 clips left for my AK", "The firehouse only had tin cans and 1 clip for my pistol"... So for my sanity and to hopfully educate some people that may actually care what the hell they are talking about, here is a quick primer on clips vs mags.A magazine is used to feed a weapon itself whereas a clip is used to feed a magazine. Clips do make loading of magazines easier and faster. There are even cases that a clip is required in order for a magazine to work (hello M1 Garand). Some magazines are removable, some are a fixed magazine.Thank you for reading. Please apply this new found information when speaking about ammo!Peace, love and puppies,OdsWhat guns do you own (real life).Being from Australia, we are limited (no semi auto unless you are really special).I myself just put in my permit to acquire for a Browning x-Bolt in .223 REM, and a .22 LRNot sure what .22 to get yet. Mainly going to be used for plinking and rabbits. I'm currently looking at a CZ ZKM452.

ssjenforcer 7 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) thanks for the tip, now i know the correct terms.but alas im still gonna call everything a CLIP becaues CLIP is soooo much easier to say than MAGAZINEim not adding another 2 syllables to my words for no reasonbut i do get it now at leastbtw anyone see that cool new magazine on youtube?:P Edited July 24, 2012 by ssjenforcer
flawlesssoul 30 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) Sorry to burst your bubble, but both the Merriam-Webster and Oxford dictionaries have agreed that "clip" and "magazine" are entirely interchangeable when referring to firearms and their ammunition.Originally, a clip was a strip of metal binding a number of cartridges together for insertion into a firearm. A stripper clip was discarded as the bullets were fed from it, and an en bloc design retained the clip until it was exhausted. You can find clips in game for various rifles, and indeed the revolver (.45 ACP). However, the word clip was often used to refer to magazines by soldiers receiving them. Later, clip would become synonymous with both the original meaning, and the new type of ammunition storage (but only when it's referring to a firearm magazine. The original magazine was the term for a storage room, either in a building or on a ship, where ammunition was kept). You would have been right, if this were not 2012. Not sure if you can get Rugar's down under but if you can check out the 10-22. It is a truely amzing .22, very customizable and accurate. I'd also suggest looking at a .17HMR for small game. vulfy 55 Posted July 24, 2012 Has nothing to do with "who cares?" or "its a niche thing".Its about being educated or ignorant. If a certain object has a certain name, and its been accepted as such, it is up to you to either learn the proper name of that object, or show off your ignorance by calling it whatever the fuck you want. If enough people call them the same thing, we change the dictionary to reflect it.You can either get used to it, or be eternally annoyed. Now, does anyone want to start talking about suppressors and silencers?

However, if you want something you can mall ninja the crap out of, try a GSG 522 SD or a SiG 522. In the states they are around $359. http://firearmcentra...m/gsg522sd1.jpg which looks fairly similar to the MP5SD in DayZ. http://thespecialistsltd.com/files/Replica_HK-MP5SD.jpg Edited July 24, 2012 by Haufer
TheFired3mon 33 Posted July 24, 2012 I used to call them clips, knowing that they were magazines. Occasionally I'll slip up and tell my friends "Hey, there's a gun with 2 clips here," instead of "Hey, there's a gun with 2 mags here."
