You're just one sick fuck needing for a psychiatrist if you are talking about weapons with such love. And I have had a hunting rifle in my hands, and shot it. There's nothing to be proud of, nothing to love. It's nice to stick to the can-on-a-fence shooting practice, but I would never point it elsewhere.

Really, go visit a psychiatrist, because talking with such love about these items is not considered humane or normal anymore.

Well, since we're all being awkward :rolleyes:

This is a gun:

These are small arms :

If someone is shooting at you with a gun, you've probably pissed them off more than you think!

You know, something that I don't like about other players in DayZ (including me) is that they are all acting like former elite soldiers, because they know stuff in rl or they are experienced arma players. I miss one fact that I loved in the early DayZ gameplay videos: that people don't know what they are doing! That is truely zombie-apocalypse-like.

So from now on i will call every clip a magazine, every round a bullet and every mp5 a machine gun thingy.

Rules of the Internet.

51. Internet denizens do not like to be educated.

52. Internet denizens will act like fools just to spite attempts to educate them.

They know the terms, they just don't give a damn. Half the reason they do it is to piss you off.

The question isn't wether or not people are using the correct technical terms of things but rather if the people they are talking to understand what they are reffering to.

I'd say that most people understand eachother perfectly fine when they use clip and magazine interchangeably and likewise bullet and round. I'd imagine that only terminology freaks would be bothered by this and only know-it-alls sitting on high horses would ever make a thread on the subject.

It seems to mostly be those of us who are perfectionists about the little details and have some mild form of OCD who get irritated by improper usage of words. Like those marketing twits who started calling their foods "organic."

That perfectionism and OCD is probably the reason why I aced Mathematics, in spite of hating math with a passion. I'm the kind of person who might have become a teacher. If I didn't hate teaching, and kids, and hated myself enough to go back into the US public education system.

Our obsessive compulsive "know it all" natures may bother you from time to time, but we're the people behind the scenes, making sure your world doesn't fall apart one tiny detail at a time. Let me put it this way. Who would you rather have building your bridges and sky scrapers? ;)

I say 'Oh look' date=' I found some ammo' and everything is ok, or do you frown upon me not using the correct term ammunition.

How anal do you have to be that people using clip instead of magazine makes you go to the forum and try and change what are now widely interchangeable terms in most people's day to day conversation.

Haha, I think the same thing. Who cares wtf people call it, you know what they are talking about. Some people just love to bitch about the smallest insignificant little things.

But... but... what if ingame you ask me to give you a clip and I actually give you a clip, you won't be able to load it into your M16 or AK! Unless... you have some spare empty mags on you, then you simply load the bullets into the empty mag! :D

Load the bullets? You mean rounds/cartridges, right? :D

So, I was watching the A-team once, and it was one of the episodes where BA Baracus had to fly. Now, you'll all remember that he hated to fly ... really hated it, like, with temper tantrums and everything.

So Hannibal and the rest of the gang had him hypnotised, so that the work 'eclipse' sent him to sleep and they could get him on the plane. Pretty clever, no?

But of course, it all backfired on them. They got into a gunfight, see, and he had the ammo for their handguns - so Face and Murdoch are shouting at him 'BA! The clips, The clips!' - and he only goes and falls asleep!

Now, thanks to the OP, I've found out that this whole, admitedly unlikely scenario was bogus. They should have been shouting 'BA! The mags! The mags!', which wouldn't have had the same effect at all.

Hollywood, eh?

MdfOa.jpg = MAGAZINE

tE9gW.jpg = MAGAZINE

PAaS0.jpg = CLIP

FbUyC.jpg = ROUND/CARTRIDGE

B4pKL.jpg = BULLET

Stop calling everything a clip and referring to a round as a bullet

Thank you for your time

MAGAZINE:

A periodical publication containing articles and illustrations, often on a particular subject or aimed at a particular readership: a women’s weekly magazine.

CLIP:

A flexible or spring-loaded device for holding an object or objects together or in place: he undid two clips and lifted the lid.

BULLET:

(The bullet) Informal dismissal from employment: your record’s bad, but it’s doubtful they’ll give you the bullet.

So,

Are you going to correct the people here about using the term bandage? It's really a dressing with a bandage holding the dressing in place. You don't bandage a wound to stop bleeding, you dress a wound to stop the bleeding.

More importantly, does it matter? Language evolves, word meanings change. As long as the message is understood the rest is a waste of time.

I blame doom to be honest.

I also don't give a shit though, and don't know why anyone should. When someone says something, and you both understand what they mean by their words, what does it matter?

See I'm with you on this one. Yes poor grammar annoys me at times and the magazine/clip gun/weapon thing can as well. At the same time, I just don't care. Language is used for communicating. That's the goal and so long as you understand the information I am trying to convey, then it doesn't really matter if I didn't spell something right.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer that people at least attempt to use decent grammar but I'm not going to light someone up on the internet for a small error here or there. If it's so bad that it is hard or impossible to read, THEN there is cause for concern.

Honestly, spelling I could give a shit less about, it's punctuation and formatting that bug the hell out of me. When someone writes a huge wall of text with no paragraph structure, it becomes a huge pain in the ass to read.

Why do I always see on here how some got into a firefight killed the guy then looted the body for 3 akm rounds or 2 dmr rounds

Here it is:

A magazine or clip is what goes into the gun that contains the rounds.

A round is the casing with the powder and bullet.

A bullet is the projectile that comes out of the front of the gun when fired.

hope this helps clear up the confusion.

Being a firearm enthusiast in real life, I often cring when reading some of the storys on these boards. "I only had 2 clips left for my AK", "The firehouse only had tin cans and 1 clip for my pistol"... So for my sanity and to hopfully educate some people that may actually care what the hell they are talking about, here is a quick primer on clips vs mags.

A magazine is used to feed a weapon itself whereas a clip is used to feed a magazine. Clips do make loading of magazines easier and faster. There are even cases that a clip is required in order for a magazine to work (hello M1 Garand). Some magazines are removable, some are a fixed magazine.

Clip_vs_mag1.jpg

Thank you for reading. Please apply this new found information when speaking about ammo!

Peace, love and puppies,

Ods

To be honest, I used to call them clips all the time. Then my buddy showed me the same picture and yelled at me for it :(

YAwn.

It's minutae that only people in the know care about.

It's like trying to correct grammar. Well, worse because it's obscure.

This is like a farmer trying to correct us for calling the tractor in the game a tractor when he and his farmer buddies call it something else.

But noted. Say Magazines or risk the wrath of guys with too many guns and not enough to kill.

I totally agree with you OP. Its called a MAGAZINE, as in, I put a fresh MAGAZINE in my revolver. I really wish people would learn this the right way.

;)

I suppose the OP can pick up on this, but to anyone that isn't sure, yes, that was a joke.
