Dying for stupid reasons

So,

I was just at the NW airfield, on a full server, yes risky I'm well aware. I'd heard gunshots over the last hour and still snuck around unseen by any zombie looting the barracks in hopes of grabbing some NV goggles.

Whilst on my way out of the northern barracks I heard gunfire south of me (fire station way) so I dove into a pine tree with my sights on the barracks for if they came up. Switch my silenced m4a1 to full auto so i could blast anyway who came. 15 mins of patiently waiting and no more noise, I decide it's safe to retreat.

I run out of the airfield fence wait a good 5 mins, then go back in to loot again, This time on my way out of the barracks, i hear fire from the north (Hangers north of barracks) i sprint for a pine and hide, I see the guy, he's coming right at me, i sight to aim he notices me move under bush, I've already line up his chest and held the mouse button....

IT HAD SWITCHED IT SELF BACK TO SEMI AUTO next second i'm dead.

I've died this way twice due to my guns auto switching back to semi auto, I'm not sure about my first death this way. But this second time I can ASSURE YOU I did not switch weapons loot any gear change anything around. All I had done was go in barracks check loot come out.

I've never played Arma or Arma II before this mod, So can someone tell me if this is normal? For weapons to auto switch firing mode, And before you say "You may have pressed it unknowingly" "F" is not my switch weapon button as it's my TS button my switch weapon button is "-" on the top right hand corner of the numb pad

My choice of fire is not the point. If i wanted full auto to drop someone then I can. Also full auto gives higher chances of avoiding alt +f4 faggots.

No, guns do not switch from semi to full by themselves, they may sometimes if you take out binocs/rangefinders or change weapon to your sidearm.

I didn't do any of those things that's my problem. All i had done was look at loot piles and then dive under a tree.

It changes when you hit the F key, also when you change weapons or use tools. Don't blame your death on not having full auto, you didn't die because you were firing in semi, you died because you failed to kill the other guy before he killed you. Semi-Automatic is much more accurate, don't spray, take short accurate bursts.

And yes, I know that's not the main point. But no it doesn't auto-switch unless you perform other actions.

I'm not blaming my death on anything. And i know semi auto is more accurate. MY POINT is that I WAS on FULL AUTO and when it came down to shooting it had magically changed. I want to know WHAT i've done that made it change modes, Or if it just hates me.

As i stated i DID NOT change weapons, i did NOT use binoculars i did NOTHING but LOOK at loot piles.

And as i mentioned my cycle weapons button is not F so it doesn't do diddly squat.

And if my gun was on full auto like i had last set it, "Holding" my mouse button would have put an entire clip into him.

My point is I was on full auto, In the heat of that situation i forgot to check it again before the enemy came at me, And only after trying to full auto discovered something either i'd done or magic had changed it back to semi-auto.

man. i dont know all game mechanics, but by standart all russian weapons go to full auto on "reset" and amm NATO guns goes to semi.

i dont know what trigs the event of "defaulting", but i think time is one factor. since i like semi and bizons, i am constantly checking.

I'm usually the first to call out whiners and people bitching, but he does present a VERY good point - a gun doesn't miraculously switch firing modes because you picked up binoculars or whatever. That's an immersion-breaker, and at the moment we're working around broken behaviour. His complaint may have been framed as a bit of a whine but his point is solid; guns don't do this IRL, they shouldn't in-game.

happens, i always check that my weapon is at full auto and zeroing at 100 every 5 minutes or so:P

This is called BUG by all definitions. Fire mode changed when I got out of car and got me killed as well. And that it wasn't fixed up till now is a damned shame.
