Stunt_M()nkey 26 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) The date was Sunday 22nd July; Time - 2105 GMT; Server - UK 11.After a looting session in Zelenogorsk i made the ardious trekk to Stary Sobor for a weapons looting mission. I moved north west from Zelenogorsk making a quick stop in Pustoshka to hit the general store before proceeding to my main mission.Once i had reached the north west side of Stary Sobor i went prone and crawled into an over watch position giving me a clear view on the military camp. I observed for between 5 and 10 minutes to make sure that the camp was clear of any potential threats, when suddenly a figure appeared moving from one med tent to another. Suddenly 3 bangs sounded, my heart started to beat in my chest getting louder and faster. I had to act, do i leave this guy or do i take him down. Needless to say i took the second option. I drew my M14, released a shot to find my zero, i squeezed off another, the guy hit the ground. One down!!I then proceeded to crawl to the small block of forest that towers over the heavily contested Stary Sobor Military camp. On my approach i spot a tent, I staked it out for several minutes, happy that no-one was in the immediate area i moved ever closer to the tent but it came up empty. At that moment I looked up through the forested area to the top of the hill, and there the 2nd potentional threat appears, observing with binos down into the Militiary camp. I take no risk and no second thoughts, my red dot sight trains itself on the threats head, the sound of my shot echos around the hill and the camp. Two down!!Am i justified in taking the life of these two survivors or should i have let them go about their business and risk getting taken out myself? I don't kill everyone i come up against but lately as soon as i have been spotted i take incoming rounds, so i took the approach "KILL OR BE KILLED" on the occasion, especially because of the location i was in.Feed back would be appreciated with your thoughts on the matter. William_Munny 12 Posted July 23, 2012 Well, I was the guy with the binocs out and I was no threat lol.I was doing the same as you, just observing and waiting for a clear oppertunity to go and grab some military loot.A nice one shot on me though. I will find a better spot to observe from next time :)
Stunt_M()nkey 26 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) The name in game started with an "O" so i am not sure if it was you Munny. If it was you accept my apology, but I have become rather nervous now when i see other survivors, I'm not sure if i was close enough to use direct communication or not but in future I will make an effort to find out. dallas 5195 Posted July 23, 2012 Depends whether you consider yourself a bandit or a survivor.
Stunt_M()nkey 26 Posted July 23, 2012 I consider myself to be a nervous survivor, most people now shoot on sight no matter what the situtation is. Recently i ran into a guy whose buddy was trapped in the Cherno hospital and i helped to rescue his buddy. Theres no guarantee that either of those two kills wouldn't have done the same to me in that location
Boonies 6 Posted July 23, 2012 Do whatever flicks your switch bud :) I'm more of your ilk, HIGHLY sceptical survivor, but one of my most comedy experiences in DayZ was duoing NWAF; south barracks my buddy hears a cough from inside. He gets into overwatch, I issue the friendly challenge from outside on direct comms - no reply. Head on in - guy at the end of the corridor lets off half a mag of ak to the door as I dive into the showers. Cue a 5 minute negotiation with my bud talking him out, getting him outside and down on the ground facing away from us with a gun on him whilst I go in and get my thieving mitts on the barracks contents (and the four or five ex-survivors plastered all around the floor). We then exfil with guns trained on the guy, and part ways with a "gl". Granted the dude didnt have much choice in the matter, but fair play, you can have encounters at NWAF where you dont get claret all over you - although they're one in a million. And the moral of this story is - having a buddy who knows how to cover your ass is worth more than any in-game loot!PS: Fair play to Max I think it was (guy in the barracks) who didnt dc or ghost out. Was a fun little encounter and hope you got away clean!
William_Munny 12 Posted July 23, 2012 Haha, it's all good. It's my own fault, I should have seen you or hidden myself better.I'm a survivor and I try and help new players as much as possible.Lately i've taken to cherno and i'm seriously enjoying killing the bandits that sit on the towers sniping all the newbies running around the town. It's pretty simple and VERY satisfying.
Stunt_M()nkey 26 Posted July 24, 2012 William Munny you aren't an ex mohaa player are you?
Etmer 24 Posted July 24, 2012 Aye, I guess you did what people usually would had done. Everyone is either a bandit because they want to kill, or are nervous themselves. Or they are cruel and "evil", though this community has a very small amount of the kind.I used to be a nervous survivor. (*cough* then I took an arrow to the knee *cough*)
MoistNinja999 44 Posted July 24, 2012 I wouldn't say it was justified as they was no a clear threat to yourself at that time, but I do not blame you, you were nervous and when things like that happen its fight or flight and you had a human response in which you eliminated the threat, I would advise to perhaps watch them next time as I have noted on my own posts and from posts that I have not commented on that it can be a very rewarding experience if you end up helping other survivors, or just watch what they do. As it can lead to a nice experience.Good luck and stay safe-MoistNinja999
Alvarie (DayZ) 14 Posted July 24, 2012 Stary Sober and all Airfields are No mans land in this game, those spots are and should be Shoot-on-sight locations, now if you where in a minor town and killed 2 survivors i would justify you as a bandit.
Whiskey999 0 Posted November 2, 2013 Just to let all you guys know. I'm this guy (MoistNinja) but the whole account switch thing has kind of caused me too lose the account but anyway this story wasn't real in case you didn't know. It's just made up, even a lie if you will.Just a storyI wouldn't say it was justified as they was no a clear threat to yourself at that time, but I do not blame you, you were nervous and when things like that happen its fight or flight and you had a human response in which you eliminated the threat, I would advise to perhaps watch them next time as I have noted on my own posts and from posts that I have not commented on that it can be a very rewarding experience if you end up helping other survivors, or just watch what they do. broguenz 333 Posted November 2, 2013 Bino guy might have been your concerned father checking on his son. People assume to much.
mercules 1290 Posted November 5, 2013 Feed back would be appreciated with your thoughts on the matter. Welcome to the negative feeback loop. You experienced people shooting you on sight so you decided it was in your best interest shooting others on sight leading them to experience the same things you do so they come to the same conclusion...If you don't like shooting other players or feel bad doing it, don't do it. There was no "Last Resort" here. You weren't trapped, you were not in danger since it was obvious neither had seen you, and you could have left free and clear. You chose to shoot them. Nothing wrong with that, what is wrong is you deciding to ease any guilt you might feel about it thinking it was justified. Accept you are a person who shoots others for your own gain or don't shoot others.
Ozelot (DayZ) 394 Posted November 5, 2013 You do not need any other justification other than "I wanted another murder"
Feral (DayZ) 622 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) the only unjustifiable act in any game is cheating killing is part of the game and therefore justification is not required I for one welcome the challenge of playing on servers mainly populated by players whos sole aim is to kill everyone they seeit's a large part of why I love dayz and continue to enjoy playing it Edited November 5, 2013 by (MUC) Feral
