DigitGreen (DayZ) 63 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) I've played video games for over 14 out of my 17 years, as the time flowed, I grew, became more intelligent, and more wise. The same could be said for my video game life, I grew as a gamer, opened my horisions and saw many different kinds of games, game play, and story telling. My gaming skill grew, and my two strongest points are FPS and Adventure, and I learned a lot about how to play games.Never give up, even if a level seems completely impossible. It took me three weeks to beat a boss monster in Final Fantasy X, and it drew my family nuts. But eventually (after I learned to actually add enhancements to my character...) I beat it, and it felt good to do it on my own. (well, someone showed me now to add the enhancements, but the battle it self was on my own.) I would always find a tough spot in a game, Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1, (and two yeah... but one? *shudders*) beating Halo 3 on legendary, and other challenges that the devs would always throw at us. I always over came them, and I always did it with no help. But then I played games like GTA, and PC games, games with cheat codes of having a developers console. Getting things early, or having invincibility, or just flying through a level, or just skip it all together. Games like GTA that had cheat codes were either not that much around, or I was completely unaware of them because of my lack of internet. (I used it time to time but, it wasn't until 2006 when I really became a part of my life... Ah, online pornography...) So if there no cheat codes in a game, that meant that I had to put time and effort into completing levels and such. But not GTA, all I had to do was just use the health code to instantly heal myself: R2 L1 R1 UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT. Even years after using that code, I still remember it completely because I used it so much. I used it through missions, and I barely died because of it. I mean they are very generous with the health they give you already, but with that cheat, It just makes you nearly invincible! So I put no effort or time into completing the missions. I never even thought about it, I can't think of one time I actually tried to beat a single level in GTA (Besides 4) without using a single cheat. It just was so easy, and being so powerful, it made me feel great. But it was never as good as the feeling as beating that monster that took me three weeks, or Sephiroth, that felt legitimate and actually rewarding. And the success from cheating? It felt fake, and short celebrated, and it was.Games became easy, too easy. I even became sort of upset when there were no cheats in a game like GTA, because I was so used to cheating that real effort seemed much harder. And because I cheated so much, now when I play games online, I constantly get crushed, because a lot of the practice I spent on the PS1, 2 and gamecube, was wasted on cheating. And people who actually spent time and effort into games, were so much superior.Games these days barely, and if at all have cheat codes, but there's another thing that makes us put no time or effort into games: strategy guides. Even before I used the internet I used those guides, Showing me where all of the best things in the games were, what weak spots to attack, and other things, if I have just a little trouble, I always run to the computer to either look up strategies, or codes. But when I played the PS1, I never did that, I didn't even knew others could. And yet, I was always able to beat the games I played. I might have sucked, but I completed it never the less.Recently when I played games like Limbo, I tried to complete as much as I could without using a strategy guide, and I made it to the near end of the game (like 90%) but then I used a guide, and the end was not as rewarding as it should have been. Same thing for GTA 4, on my second playthrough, I decided to be a man and try to beat the game with no cheats. It was tough, but I finality made it to the last level. Then it became too hard, I tried, and tried and tried, but after two days, I said screw it and brought out the cheats. Again, not so rewarding at the end. Cheat codes is a luxury, and like a lot of luxurious things we have in life it spoils us, and teaches nothing, if not, then anything good in our lives. So now I come to yesterday, I've been playing DayZ for the past few weeks and I had a blast. Interacting with others, being in a group, getting great loot, It was a whole new experience, and I just loved every moment, good or bad. Until recently. I was doing really good I had the M4A1 CCD SD, all equipment (besides GPS and NVG) and enough food and water and ammo to last me a while. And I did it all on my own, no cheats or anything. Then, it happened. I had two camping tents and a whole lot of stuff and I was going to a part of the map to pitch and hide them. Little did I know that swimming in water can make you lose your items. When I got half way, I noticed my ALICE backpack was gone. And when I got to shore, my ALICE backpack, M4A1, and items in the main 12 slots were gone. And boy was I pissed, I was doing so well, I was even going to commit to holding down a place, and then, all gone, all of those hours, gone in a flash. I was in denial and hope that reconnecting to a different server would fix it, but it didn't, those weapons we're gone. After many failed attempts of retrieving my stuff, I logged off and went to bed, hoping to awake to a better tomorrow. In the morning I got up, eat, then played the game again. Still gone. Then I had an idea. Now, I am telling the truth, I have never hacked a game before, and I have never used anything to have an unfair advantage over other players that was outside of the games rules and limitations. But losing so much progress because of a glitch in a glitchy game, and that fact that no one could do anything about it, sorta set me off. I wasn't mad at anyone, not Rocket or anyone on thh Dev team, they arn't gonna take the time to help one person when so many other are in need, both in my situation and in the whole thing of the glitches needing to be fixed. I was just mad at the situation I was in. I wanted instant gratifications, I wanted back the stuff I had now! But there was no way the devs could do anything, and asking another player for some stuff? You'd be shot before you could get the chance to talk to them. So I turned to the one thing when you're on your own, Hacks.I went on youtube and looked around, and it came up first. It was a video about this guy showing how to hack the game. For us non cheaters (yeah, spoiler alert I hung up my short lived hacking days.) For those who do not cheat, he was nice enough to only put out the hacks for getting anything you wanted, and nothing like vehicles, or aimbots or invincibly. And frankly that's all I wanted, I just wanted the weapons and items I had left. So I followed the instructions and started up the game, I pressed on the commands, and poof, there was a box. And in the box, was every single item in the game, The weapons, the ammo, equipment, the med equip. the food, drinks and backpacks, and there was 100 of each, the whole nine yards was mine for the taking. So I got what I think I had back... and I took a GPS and a ghillie suit. I felt like I should have gotten something for losing all of my stuff because of a glitch. The other part of me told me that I shouldn't, but screw that, I got hacks (more like scripts but it's cheating all the same). So I said so long. After pitching the tents, It felt kinda empty and boring, just two tents, and I placed them far away from any towns or loot able places, and it would take along time to fill them both up by going back and forward. There was the hacks, but I swore that I would never use them again. But I mean, why not just use a little more. I re-inputted to commands and spawned another box, then I took some weapons, food and water and put them in the tent. But I didn't stop there, so I decided to build a defense, I made two walls of wire fences and sandbags for defense. It wouldn't stop humans from walking in, but it made it a lot easier for zombies. After that, I walked along and actually found a boat. Besides a bike, I had never found a vehicle before, and was excited to go to places faster than ever before. So, obvously taking advantage of the situation, I used the scripts to spawn another box to fill it up completely. After realizing that the boat was a complete piece of s**t, I hoped off and went to talk and find a real car. I lost connection however, and when I tried to get back on, a message came up saying: Global Ban.So, that was the end, the short lived script cheating. Yes I regret it of course, I'm just glad it didn't affect anyone negativity. I mean, I didn't kill anyone, I didn't destroy anything that belong to someone, the only person who suffered from this is me, and that's the way it should be.To end this, I want to apologize to Rocket, the rest of the Dev team, everyone who has about the game and played fairly, and everyone in the forms who doesn't cheat for using scripts to cheat in this wonderful, innovative game. And I want you to know that I will no longer do anything to make video games easier. Whether it being unneeded help, codes, or going beyond the limitations of the game to exploit it. From now on I'll play the game fairly, to truly challenge myself to better myself as a gamer. Even if I lose out right, or even if it takes me so much longer than the average time to complete something, it's always. ALWAYS better than using things like scripts, hacks, cheats or guides to get through it easier and not caring that you're just pussying out and not to learn a god damn thing. I never want to do that again. Never. I'm actually glad I did this, I learned something that I should have learned along time ago, and I hope I this story taught you guys the same lesson I learned. If I ever be able to get back on DayZ, then I'll be more than grateful, and I'll try harder than ever to survive, no hacks, scripts, or cheats at all, and this goes for every single video game I will ever play for the rest of my life. This is a lesson to be learned, and to be remembered.Former Script user-Digital_InsanityEDIT:-I said it 1000 times and I will say it again. I. Do. Not. Want. To. Get. Unbanned. This post is about a lesson for everyone, not for sympathy, fame, or unbanning, please stop brinnging this up.-At the time when I used the hacks, I did not know that losing your stuff in the water was a legitimate factor in the game, it makes sense now, and it's all cleared up for me.-Stop bringing up Bronies, that's just sad and pointless, I will no longer respond to any posts about it. thecrackmuffin 22 Posted July 22, 2012 So you hacked and got banned. Sorry for your shocking epiphany, but you failed the age old DayZ test of willpower. Most players die and pick themselves back up on the shore to start anew, while you asked the internet for a handout so the game could be fun again. DayZ gives everyone a shitty deal almost every day, next time if you want to take out some stress get yourself a hatchet in elektro and kill some fools
Senrain 148 Posted July 22, 2012 Good to see that you regret your decision but if you're expecting to be forgiven and pardoned then you'll be sadly disappointed. You made a mistake, and now you must pay for that mistake no matter how sorry you are.
benjaminvnelson@gmail.com 7 Posted July 22, 2012 Fair enough for coming clean. Hope you decide to play again in the future the fun way (without the hax).Just as a point - you didn't lose your items to a glitch, you are supposed to randomly lose things when swimming. The only reason why I did this was because it was a glitch, and that it was not supposed to happen. I know I shouldn't have done that never the less, but now I'm apologizing for exploiting the game. The least you could do is forgive me and just walk away. This was a mistake I made, and I will never do it again. Also I'm not some asshole who kills other players for sport or anger, I do it out of survival. *=LP=*Cpt.Kawa 57 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) Actually that is the 1st time I see a hacker is apologising. I read all of it and it seems that you are really regretting it. Respect for that and you got your punishment - the global ban. So it is evened out now. IMO you wrote that more for yourself - like a self-finding thing - than for others, except the apology, which again sounds really honest. In the end you prolly learned more about the DayZ spirit than most of us.So now it is like every addiction: Don't do it any more!Ah and btw. hacking/cheating/guides or whatever makes gaming obsolete, never really understood why would someone do it.If I never will be able to play DayZ again, then I accpet that, I deserve it, I just want to come clean to everyone.Just buy a new copy of Arma.
