Did I do the right thing?

So me and my friend were playing,(I met him earlier in the game and played together we had quite a good friendship) we were raiding the Station on the outskirts of Elektro when we heard that distinctive sound of an AK firing nearby. As my friend only had a G17 and I a DMR we decided to move from the station and scavenge for supplies elsewhere, but as we was walking out of the main doors the back door swung open and in walked a man with a crowbar, before I could ask whether he was friendly he shouted "In here guys", he did not see us as we walked out of the door but we saw what looked like 3 men holding various different weapons including an AKM. We ran North into the hills but the voice of the first man seemed to follow us, then we realised they wasn't searching for supplies but hunting us.

We managed to get into the woods when a storm erupted in the sky, it was dusk and the sun was setting and light was low, we hid in the brush in the hope our hunters would lose interest in us and leave us alone, but they didn't. We heard the 4 of them talking to each other questioning whether we left the game or not, then they came into my view, my new friend nodded at me, we leapt up from our positions and opened fire on the men with fire arms, we saw them drop and their names appearing down the bottoms as killed, we also had 3 bandits kills between the 2 of us.

But when I looked over to my friend he was bleeding, we was losing blood rapidly and we didn't have any bandages, something made him bleed, but it wasn't the armed men as they did not get chance to fire a shot off, then I realised that it must have been the man with the crowbar, my friend told me to leave him before dying, usually I would of humbled his wishes but it seemed that the few hours I spent with my late friend, were the only hours someone other than my steam friends had actually worked with me and we had fun doing it making jokes along the way, and his death filled me with anger, I reloaded my DMR and ran to the crest of the hill to see if he ran to the station again, and by luck he was, I took aim with my DMR but I forgot about the bullet drop in my rage, so the first shot went way low, and aimed higher this time but I hit his leg and he dropped like a stone, I zeroed in my scope for the kill shot when I decided to hold my fire. I walked down the hill to his crawling body, he turned around to face me swinging his crowbar wildly, he stopped and begged "Please don't kill me, Please don't kill me", his voice sounded desperate, but because of my rage I just reloaded the DMR in front of him and shot him in the head.

I suppose I should of felt great I killed some people, protected myself and got some supplies off their corpses, but I felt bad, not because I lost my friend but because I killed that last guy mercilessly, I felt sadness for my friend but regret for killing that guy.

Did I do the right thing by killing him? Or should I have let him live?

Even when your enemy was disabled from walking he still attempted to attack you, his initial objective was to kill you, killing him was protecting yourself.

There's a hospital just south of where you killed him, he would have crawled back, got morphine, grabbed a gun from his mate's corpse and hunted you again.

And from my point of view, yes you did do the right thing. He and his buddys had the intention of killing you. You had every right to kill him.

I think you did the right thing although once he was crippled I wouldn't have put a bullet in his head. I wouldn't want to waste the ammo on him.. Instead I would have ran around collecting a train of zeds then ran past him and sat back as he got mauled to death whilst drinking a pepsi.

much betetr to run up behind him loot everything out of his pack, shhot him in the leg just to make sure he didnt secretly morphine and then leave him to crawl his way to freedom .. or more likley to the dinner table of some local Z's

Should have killed him with a hatchet or your secondary, he wasn't worth the DMR rounds tbh, unless all you had was the DMR.

OP, I'd say you did the right thing. He fully intended to kill you, so you had every right to finish him, no matter how merciless it was.

I'm the most peaceful of all survivors and what you did, walking up to his broking body, allowing him to beg, before you blew out his fragile little candle. He lead armed men to you, killed your friend, left his own dying bandit comrades behind and wanted you to give him the chance, he denied you and yours. You didn't kill him, he killed himself, you where just the rigthous hand of humanity.

This kind of behavior, what you did, will live on the songs and tales long after we've rebuilt Chernarus.

i was in ur place i would of toyed with him, simply for the fact that he and his buddies pack hunted u, would of kept takeing shots at his limbs and make him slowly bleed to death

but then again, all the noise of gunfire would of attracted more hostiles, so a quick killshot was the smarter choice, like others said, he was trying to kill u, insted he paid the price

Reading this i couldnt help but think that it would have been cool if you could have drug this asshats... ass to your friend, assuming he was still alive. Let the one he injured take the final blow. That said i dont think i would have had the clear head to do this, i probably would have done exactly what you did. He deserved to die, when you wish death upon others without reason, you should expect to die a horrible death.

Or you could just do it like it got done to me my first time in DayZ and just drag their broken legged soon-to-be corpse out into the street and toss a smoke grenade on them.

you can shoot him in the legs until he passes out, bandage him, select drag and he is yours, even when he regains conciousness he is yours :P just dont drag from infront if they are armed they can still shoot ya

this is one of the fun ways bandits kidnap people, stick dayz dragging in youtube and enjoy :P

Just to let all you guys know. I'm the OP but the whole account switch thing has kind of caused me too lose the account but anyway this story wasn't real in case you didn't know.
