Removal of all gear.

Recommended Posts

I think there are too many duplicated items spreading around the servers.

upon the next update. I suggest that all players gear is removed and all tents and vehicles are removed, in order to reset the mod to a stable testable state.

I disagree. Many people play this game like an acual, full on mod, whether it's still in it's testing phase or not. If you wipe everything, all that will happen is tons of negative comments towards the mod, again, whether you like it or not. If you say "Hurp a derp, too bad, they all just be butthurt" then think again. Many people have worked weeks to get their gear and do not want to lose it via a info wipe. Were you butthurt somehow by a sniper?

I don't know what was going on in your mind when you thought of this.

I do not agree with you OP, mainly because it's not necessary. People like myself do the hardwork and earn it all. How would you feel if I just took your money and you've worked hard for them eh?

I just lost a Coyote Backpack, M203 M16A2, AS50, Antibiotics, Toolbox, etc due to a hacker somehow killing everyone in the server.

I'm not bitching. I'm just stating that it happens and you should get used to it. The mod is still being developed and there are bugs, just as well DayZ is absolutely pointless once you get all the best gear. The fun of it is starting over and ending up with a different loadout, ending up in a different location, etc.

If you're looking to just horde stuff and never lose it then maybe Fallout 3 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is your game and not DayZ.

It was already stated that a new patch can bring a equip wipe. get over it. i think its for the best at some point. also all those duped items are flooding the hive. it´s an alpha. this will happen, get over it :)

edit: also a new patch + equip wipe = less bugs. imagine tents get fixed, it will be easier when you wipe all current tents before the patch

Agreed, a wipe would end the dup itens, also removing the ways to dupe an item on the same update..

I ran by 2 guys yesterday, on electro, killed one and lootted him, NVGs, AS50, Colt SD, the other got away, okay no problem,

5 freaking minutes latter, me and my friends kill both of them, both with equal equips and weapons.. NVGs coyotes backpacks, gps all the stuff..

Of course they dupped..

Anyways, a wipe would solve this things, at least for now..

AAAAND, its an alpha, it has been said that a wipe will occur sometime, so I really hope it comes soon :D

The OP is correct, though. I understand people worked hard for the stuff they have, but like it or not, the state the mod is in isn't for having fun. You can have fun when it's released. This is a full blown testing environment- let's keep it clean. I'm gonna be upset about losing my stuff, and I'm actually neutral with regards to the 'reset', but at the same time, if Rocket deems that a reset is necessary...well, I WILL suck it up. It's just pixels. I can get them again easily. (idk what you guys are taking weeks to gather... I have NVG, M24, a campsite...took me a few days from when I started playing... do you have heli's or something? sheesh! lol)

And then the hackers spawn themselves loot again and all the players lose all of their hard earned gear. No thanks.

So in order to stabilize gear and remove duped/spawned items- we should remove all gear belonging to people who haven't hacked? What I'm trying to say is; people who have duped and spawned in items will simply spawn in and dupe items the second after the server-wipe, while all the people who did not hack will have to start over.

In effect, removing all items in order to "make it fair/stable" would simply do the opposite and further destabilize the item distribution.

Also; "...in order to reset the mod to a stable testable state. " Now how can you be so sure that it is the duped items on the servers that are the cause of instability? Don't you think there are other things that may effect the mod more? Bugs? Engine/core design issues? etc.

So no, I think your suggestion is really bad. The idea of a clean wipe might be something to discuss, but not with your argument.

I support the idea to some degree.

But perhaps now is not a good time for it, it's still in its Alpha so we're basically pretty much still testing what rocket makes of the mod and if we do stat resets now, it could also have some damaging effects towards players and gameplay. Maybe it would be better for a complete info wipe once DayZ goes into its beta stages?

A-L-P-H-A

The gold status game/mod should restart from scratch (concerning inventory and player placed stuff).

@Womb and vaalea

And? I'd say this would be a good thing. A day after a wipe, and someone has NVG, military grade snipers, trucks, heli's...

Sounds like a free ticket to banville. Population: hackers.

Mission accomplished.

Edit: Because you made me point this out, the Hackers are now safer. Jerks.

I'm for a character wipe once it comes to rebalancing or introducing new items / spawns etc. At one point the playing field needs to be levelled just to weed out the tons of hacked in weapons, duped items and massive hoarding by hackers. Else wise it will be difficult to have decent statistics and visible effects of any changes.

But how would that work Zetal? Would you ban everyone with a pair of NVG's, for the sole reason of them having them? Sure it's unlikley to find one like a day after a wipe, but is that proof?

I'm not saying its not possible to do a server wipe. I'm just saying that the argument you used wasn't enough and simply not structured enough. I mean...Is this for server stability or "fairness"? If its for server stability- how can you know that its duped items thats causing the server-side instability problems that DayZ suffers from. And if it's to fix "fairness"- well then it just wouldnt work in reality, even though the thought is a good one.

But sure, your ill-written, bad structured and non-logical statements makes me a jerk aparently...

It actually makes more sense to continue as is for testing because there are lots of players testing out end game gear. Stuff that takes hours/days to acquire if you're lucky. Why would you reset that if you can just let it play out? There is very little obligation to make things 'fair'. The current state of duping and disconnecting is a way to see how we all behave and respond. We are helping to remove these problems from the game by playing with them and reporting when things are not 'right.'

I'm in agreement with a global gear rest on the Hive. Rocket's doing his best to eliminate duping. At the point that he honestly feels he has a handle on the problem, it's heartily recommend a global reset. It would allow for a re-evaluation of the loot spawning rates on gameplay.

It's only to be expected that there'd be lots of resistance to the idea of a global reset, people have put a lot of time and effort into acquiring their gear, but as has been said constantly...

Rule #1 in DayZ Alpha: Don't get attached to your gear!!! It's an Alpha!!!!

I posted a similar thread, http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/25001-rocket-please-fix-all-exploits-as-soon-as-you-can-and-then-reset-everyones-gear/. I'm still amazed at the negative tone of many the responders.

Okay, give me a few good reasons why this is a good idea. If you say "To help test the alpha hur" then please, explain to me how wiping everyones stuff and having half/more than half of your community leaving/pissed at the game, would help this mod.

I agree 101%!

Ofcourse so many children will disagree because they don't want to lose their precious equipment.

(the fact that this is alpha is a good enough excuse for this action, if Rocket chose to do so)

IMO
