Parkour/Free Running

Recommended Posts

I insist, let go of the "parkour" idea and focus on "dynamic use of enviroment".

It'll weird out less people.

Think less Prince of Persia and more Uncharted.

^Uncharted is a perfect example of how this could work, 'parkour' is a far stretch.

I've thought myself that I should be able to climb something higher than a 3 foot fence. Even in real life I can do that shit.

Yea tbh ive been thinking parkour may conjour up unintentional action images, but i wasnt even thinking of any game in particular.

looked at that uncharted and tbh.. it looked like prince of persia.. in the jungle.. with guns.

id just like more dynamic enviornments.

So when your chased by zeds through a town, you dont just run through like forest gump, you crash through fences, you knock over abandoned trollies and damaged sign posts you smash through windows, clamber through small holes in the roof and walls, you scamper up and down trees.

I think it would add to the aesthetics of a desperate struggle for survival. Not to mention opening up the environment that lil more.

I'm not really understanding why people keep thinking DayZ would/should/could/will be ported/built on a new engine. Remember guys, Rocket works for Bohemia, it wouldn't make any sense to not use their engine as it's already been built and Rocket I'm sure has no problems obtaining any licensing or what have you for it.

the thing is, that community want DayZ to become a real world simulator with added zombies. and the current engine(at least modable part of it) doesnt cut it.

i`m up for the parkour, because you can do that stuff in real life, but not until weight will be implemented. its already fun to watch how people running with Barret/As50 and couple of barbed wire kits(about 20 kg each) in their pockets and some tank traps(80kg each) in their backpack.

if you want to do parkour you have to do it almost without addition weight

more dynamic interraction with the environment, yes (for exemple, not having to stop when you try to pass a fence)

But climbing buildings'n'shit, no. You can't climb with a gun + a backpack unless you are trained... And our characters are no special forces, they're civilians

i think the discussion developed a bit during the day or two you spent trying to find this well produced video. I applaud the effort.

If i'm being chased by people trying to eat me alive, I would be able to even try to bring a wall down If I need, or try to fit in a toilet, everything for survive.

And Sure, when this comes to Stand Alone will be awesome, CryEngine 3 has already a good development on this aspect.

Just a hint. :)

Imagine that these bandits are the zombies

Also, may only Survivors (not Bandits) be able to have Free Run skills. to help them escape from a lot of Bandits, Like this one in this video Edited by MinxinG

noo not that excessive, but being able to clamber up surfaces would be cool

I say hell naw!!!

i say hell yea!!

remember peeps i dont mean hollywood parkour

from wikipedia:

Parkour (French pronunciation: [paʁˈkuʁ]) (abbreviated PK) is a physical discipline and non-competitive activity which focuses on efficient movement around obstacles.

Thats all id like to see, efficient movement around dynamic environments, obviously not possible until stand alone but still i can dream cant I?

Yall stop freakin taking his words out of context he's had to say like 5 times in this thread that he means basic things. Yes this should be implemented, weight should be a factor and, noise should be a factor also.

You just wanna prove godwin right!.... wing!

But it probably has gone on long enough, dont think there is much more to be said really.

Basic Free Running determined by weight mechanics, through a dynamic destructible environment. Yaarp.

It would be pretty cool, not really freerunning, but just climbing on rocks and stuff!

All it needs is a system like in GTA where you auto jump any low level fence and press space to jump to high level walls and hoist yourself up. No need for assassins creed type craziness

I would like parkour to some extent but remember carring all that heavy gear is hard to move around in. Maybe just simple climbing like in GTA: IV not jumping from building to building (not to mention the super human stamina)

I thought i saw a mod which allows you to do some of this. You can climb over walls and stuff but it makes your player tired afterwards.

I don't think every player should be able to scale a wall efficently and jump over stuff that they really shouldn't be able too. The arma 2 engine does make the player models somewhat rigid when it comes to movement. Think something could work here

YEaa thats not quite what i was thinking but it certainly making steps in the right direction, especially using your environment more efficiently. But again this feels like animations the better suit Arma scenarios, as much as I like all of them and theyd work in DAyZ, it needs something more.

Maybe not but given high adrenaline survival situations, i bet most people would make a fecking good attempt at it. Anyone who didnt are probably the peeps that get paralysed by adrenaline and im sure most of them would of been eaten/chasing you now.
