Is it like this for everyone?

Recommended Posts

I've been experiencing this a lot lately (this weekend).

For example, how I died just now:

I'm moving up the stairs in the castle, and I hear someone hyperventilating upstairs. So I'm being very careful, creeping up slowly and looking up the stair opening so that I don't get surprised.

I move to the top and there's a bandit there, just standing there, looking away from me at about 130 degrees, looking into the woods somewhere. So I take aim and empty my clip into his head. He keeps simply standing there, not moving at all. I move down the stairs a bit while I reload but suddenly I start bleeding! I bandage myself and I move up the stairs to shoot the bandit again and he's still standing in the exact same spot and looking exactly in the same direction. He still hasn't moved at all. And I start bleeding again and losing blood rapidly and before I can shoot him again I die on the stairs =/

I know this is Alpha but... can someone please explain this to me? Like I said this isn't the first or only time this has happened to me this weekend...

i've had this happen to me. i saw a dude, put a cz round right in his head, and saw blood gushing out. so at this point i assume it's just lag and that he's dead, but 5 secs later my screen fades, my blood falls to 3000, i start bleeding, my bones break, and then i die. in that time i managed to free look around me and didn't see a single person. i couldn't hear gunshots but from the way i was being hit, it looked like makarov bullets - the same gun that guy had.

i think it's just lag.

Before engaging ppl, hit p an make sure no one on the list, including you, has desync or very high ping. This situation is absolutely desync of one of the clients.

This is a VERY large issue, and causes a lot of players grief. The game is very laggy/desynced right now because of server load, which is being worked on. For now, it's really bad. I've headshot players (just today) that then started running in circles and unloading mak mags while running/popping back and forth. I dodge and apparently I'm standing still.

Oh but what's the excuse? "you butthurt bandit faggot" Yeaaaaah.

I later killed 3 bandits that were running near Cherno, they all fought for another 10 seconds before dying of the bullet. I told them I shot them a while back but they raged more. I've been on both ends of this, so don't worry, it's major lag. Hopefully it'll be fixed. Could anyone that played Arma2 before confirm how the bullets work? I can imagine 1 second for a mile or so, but 10 second wait time plus teleporting?

I think the only safe way to get away with a kill is to sneak up on the target, dump a few rounds into the back of their head, then get behind cover as soon as you can. I've had something similar happen to me, where I unloaded about 5 rounds of 5.56mm into someone's face, only to have them kill me a few seconds later despite being dead.

Yea seen some pretty bad desync issues like this before. Seen a bandit running towards me unaware of my location in some tall grass. Opened up on him with a Enfield, emptied the clip into him. He kept running towards me...and past me. After a few seconds his body teleported back to where I initially put a few first rounds into him. I don't think much can be done about this issue, it's something ARMA seems to always have and just have to put up with it.

Ghetto fabulous client/server code.

This is the same shit I was dealing with back with Operation Flashpoint.

No surprises here.

Honestly that's why I've taken up Tribes Ascend for the time being. At least my shots LAND in Tribes and I get no lag.

Given that this mod is still in alpha, while I do find the survival aspect very entertaining I am a gun/shooter lover at heart and when this mechanic is pretty broken and takes the enjoyment out of gunplay it is best to sit back and wait until they fix the client and/or server load, even if at all possible.

Tribes =/= Arma in anything. Personally not surprised that Tribes has an easier time with lag and syncing. It's a much smaller scale game, less complex, and probably has several more servers working to keep it going.

nothing can compare to arma

back on topic ... also i believe its also the "blood" feature that creates this lag ... if you've played online on any other game mode you'll notice that your target drops almost immediately after being shot ... while on dayz .. 1 full mak magazine to the back of the head and he can still turn around and shoot once

+1 for desync / bad internets.

Its not helped by servers going up that allow stuff like people joining with sounds and custom faces.. combined with some that i guess just cant handle the caps they're running.

Its already a big game and this mod puts further strain on it..

On the upside it can only get better i hope..

..When it -does- work as it should.. People get reliably killed, one-shotted, by large calibre weapons on this mod... which is nice when it happens

-- i'll also add, speaking from personal experience that when i play on better ping'd servers that reg isnt actually that bad..

Yeah its horrible, a guy was shoting me and my buddys and I had to put 20+ rounds into him until the game catches up and was like "oh yeah, he should have been dead 2 minutes ago, here lose 7500 humanity (no shit, from 2500 to -5000, just because he shot my teammates instead of me first)"

And whenever i run into a player, I can't even know if he didn't already shot me, but I know if I shot him, he somehow still has time to ignore 7 akm bullets in his head and fire back...

This is the exact reason I only snipe now and don't bother with close range fighting. Either it'll lag out and I'll put a clip in their head and then I'll suddenly keel over and die 30 seconds later, or I'll put a clip in their head, they'll turn around and shoot me in the face, and we'll both die, because of the lag delay.

Lesson to be learnt? Snipe.

Oh, so it's more widespread than I thought... when I started whining about this in the server chat it seemed like I was the only one this was happening to.

I know this mod is in Alpha, but things like network code that handles this should already long be in place from the base game, Arma2, right? So if that's the case, does it mean even with more work done on the game this is to be normal for the mod? Are other Arma2 mods like this, too?

Or does this have to do with the face that every server is connected to one "hive" server and everything has to go through it first?

I can attest to this.

One time, a bandit being chased by a horde of zeds ran past me, spotted me by a supermarket, and decided to use me as bait by shooting me with a winchester.

I went down, bleeding badly and with broken limbs from a couple of shots, but unluckily for the bandit I was still able to see well enough to empty a couple of revolver rounds into him.

He went down and stayed down, while I managed to (barely) hold off the rest, heal, and get away on about 500 blood.

Long story short, he who has more blood comes out on top.
