I really really really really really want to play DayZ. It sounds amazing.

But I don't have the money to buy ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead.

Is there some way to play DayZ with ARMA II Free, or am I screwed?

You need to make a purchase.

In the meantime download a2free and get some practice in. Arma doesnt play like other games, and its also a good way to see if you system can handle it.

The thing is, you can run Dayz using Arma 2 Free Edition, although you need to buy Operation Arrowhead. I do not recommend doing it. Whenever you have a problem, it will make you wish you have bought both games.

Look up a bit on Youtube, you'll find several tutorials.

i am currently running Arma 2 Free and OA on a budget pc. this being the first pc game that im really getting into, i had not previously invested into a more powerful system. after optimizing setting, updates and patches (most of this you will have to do regardless of free or not), i am still having a very enjoyable experience playing DayZ. i shopped around sand found OA for only $12.00 I think. Ive been very happy with my purchase. I may upgrade from Arma 2 free to Arma 2 CO, as I hear it has significantly better graphics, but this is a little down the road since I feel I am already at the limits of what my current system can do.
