Ichimaruu 39 Posted July 16, 2012 Since 1.7.2 arrived, crouching through/near villages/towns is no longer viable. Since you will always be spotted from upwards of 100m, not sure if it's a bug or intentional; either way we'll have to crawl a lot more if we don't want to attract zed attention.
Zerodayz 7 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) I have gotten into the habit of sprinting right through town, getting them all into one building and just killing them with a G17. Gives away my position sure, but it beats crawling into town for 15 minutes just to get spotted anyways. Edited July 16, 2012 by Zerodayz
void.false@gmail.com 300 Posted July 16, 2012 THX for the tip. Somebody should stick this topic so it will stay at the top of the page.
Miki (DayZ) 15 Posted July 16, 2012 Zeds barely notice me lately, in really rear occassions when we're a lot of people.
OrLoK 16185 Posted July 16, 2012 Hello thereCrouching still works for me most of the time.Yes, the Zeds do aggro more from a distance if in the open, but seem to loose interest in survivors very quickly in comparison to the last patch.Recently I was chased into a pub and sprinted upstairs in search of a weapon to fend off the 5 or 6 zombies following me, unforuneatly there were no weapons to be found, so bravely I crouched down behind a chair and hid. Although one Zed came in the room they soon wandered off.Normally I would have been munched so it looks like there's been some balancing.RgdsLoK

The eye at your right, is almost full everytime you crouch and still got like 3 "(((" if you prone. Which before was a whole diffrent rate.
joemiken 16 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) All crawling through town does is make it easier to get sniped. I slow crouch when I'm near zeds, crouch run otherwise and move from building to building, losing zeds in the process. If you really wanted to be sneaky though, stay out of direct LOS w/ them. Their visual detection is obviously much lower with their back turned to you. Edited July 16, 2012 by joemiken
beaudierman 0 Posted July 16, 2012 I haven't had any problems when crouching around town, but I do occasionally get a zed spotting me from 100-200m away when I'm out in the middle of nowhere.
moeller.37@wright.edu 6 Posted July 16, 2012 They should put Zed aggro to that of 1.7.1.5 I think it was. Proning just makes you easy player-bait.
Sephka (DayZ) 51 Posted July 16, 2012 You can still crouch run and crouch walk around.Stick next to buildings, it keeps your visibility low.Pay attention to which way the zombies are facing. If they're looking at you either go prone or slowly walk to a building until your visibility meter goes down.Pay attention to what kind of ground you will be walking on, if it's not heavily grassy then you will likely become more visible/audible walking on it, plan accordingly. The zombie aggro system isn't perfect, but it's hardly impossible to crouch walk around them. I crouch run within 20m of zeds constantly when going through towns, you just have to pay attention and learn how the system works.

Cort 5 Posted July 16, 2012 I'm sorry but zombies aggro from more than 20m out if you're crouched and not moving.Only if they are looking right at you, you can crouch run behind them all day. They hear much worse now and see much better thats basically the bottom line. I crouch run right up behind them within 10m and shoot them without them reacting, used to never do this unless walking because of the sound.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted July 16, 2012 I think this patch is much more realistic. You are highly visible during the day unless you take cover. Stick to walls and buildings. At nighttime they are nigh on blind.
sandorski 17 Posted July 16, 2012 Sometimes I crouch until Aggro's, sometimes I just Sprint. With no Weapon I try not to Aggro, but even then I'm not too worried as long as I know where the next major building is. Then it's just a concern of whether a player is in there. OneTwo (DayZ) 0 Posted July 16, 2012 I wish I could find some whiskey in one of the million empty whiskey bottles in the game. That way I can get drunk and just stumble through a town like a zombie and have them not give a shit about me.
