Why use Six Updater at all?

  1. 1. Do you use Six Updater for DayZ? What best describes your reasons?

    • I don't use Six Updater. I install mods (inlc. DayZ) manually and see no need.
    • I don't use Six Updater. It's slow and annoying.
    • I use Six Updater. I don't know how to install mods manually.
    • I use Six Updater. I like it and I am used to it.
    • I use an alternative automatic installation method.
    • I don't even..

Just a curiosity.

I have never liked Six Updater, and it annoys me how slow it is to do things - especially when updating itself.

Discuss.

The SixUpdater updates my DayZ faster than I can find the mod files on the internet. So yeah.

Also, I'm just used to it. Used it since day one. And it doesn't show me in-game on Steam, so I'm happy.

Just much less hassle. I don't really have to check everytime there's a new update as it checks it automatically.

Speed isn't an issue at all for me using it. I do it just for convenience really. Most people are quite capable of doing the manual install, it's not rocket science and you aren't a computer genius if you know how to do it, but with the launcher there's no need. I like DayZ commander for selecting servers though.

I've never used six updater I don't think.

I just open six launcher and let it do the updating and patching, although I have just changed across to DayzCommander and really liking that over six launcher.

It does show a tab for downloading the latest patches and updates but I haven't used it to update the game yet.

I recommend it over six launcher though http://www.dayzcommander.com/

Its actually pretty fast at updating itself and the game files....

I'm not 100% about Six Launcher, but Six Updater doesn't launch itself automatically after a software update. Have you encountered this before?

With regards to this, is DayZ the first mod you've played for ArmA II? Would you install a mod manually, if shown how? See the link in OP.

What kind of hassle do you go through to check for updates to DayZ?

Cheers guys :)

I hate sixupdater's dayz launcher. You find a game, Say you want to join it. Start up the game. Connect to the server and by the time that's all happened, someone else has beat you to it and the server is full. GG. I prefer the worrom updater. It does everything sixupdater does, but you can use the ingame server browser.

i find that changing small things in Six Updater for ACE and DayZ (say, forcing it to use the A2 Beta) are slow and painful, as it commits all changes as soon as you make the change - there are no confirmations.

Among other things, I find that more annoying than how slow it is. It has no user confirmations before change application, yet it confirms if you want to run ACE Clippi, every time you launch ACE. And where's this autolaunchapps key? Just awful. Manual installation seems much better to me.

I've been using Worrom's DayZ Mod Updater,

Never had a problem at all.

Worrom is really good and simple for updating DayZ.

I might have to give this a go, sometime. Or, point new players to it if they find manual installation too daunting.

Cheers!

I use Six Updater and its a pile of garbage. Its slow, difficult to use and the user interface is horrible. I use it only to be able to start up Arma2 beta patch and DayZ both at the same time. Its easy to use if something DOES NOT go wrong on their side. But when something goes wrong (beta patch/battleye/incorrect dayz version/compatibility problems) you'll end up fixing a lot.

If you like, try out my manual install. There are two points in the preamble that point you to the steps to follow when it comes to updating DayZ, and the A2 beta.

PM me with your feedback, if you like :)

I disliked it at first.

I absolutely love it now.

It's simple and quick. While my buddies are trying to figure out how to manually pump in their updates, I'm simply right clicking and allowing Six Updater to do the dirty work by itself.

I don't use it anymore but it's easy to use and good for people unfamiliar with their directory structure.

DayZ Commander..

My friends use DayZ Commander, but I've heard that sometimes it doesn't display the correct info(time of day, what servers friends are in, etc...)
