SVD "type" sniper rifles only please

Recommended Posts

So i'm wandering why only SVD (and perhaps the DMR to some extent) is the only sniper that takes skill to use - OH ME GOD HE SAID THE "S" WORD!

Yes that's right! It isn't just point, page up/down, shoot. I really like how the SVD has it's own rangefinder system - though hard to use at first, you will start loving it after a while.

So, let's take a look at what the SVD has and has not:

10 Bullet clip, Semi automatic fire, lack of secondary zoom, lack of zeroing, in-built rangefinder, cammo (conceals the user much better).

Why would I like every sniper to lack zeroing and secondary zoom? Because it becomes laughably easy - especially with some of the top of the tier sniper rifles such as the AS50 and M107 - seriously, those guns can be zero'd and zoomed in, not forgetting they kill the target in one shot!

I'm not crying for nerfs or anything like that, but feel free to feed on my nonexistent tears.

Just remember that if every sniper required as much "s" word as the SVD, you would at least know that the "bush wookie pvp noob grr" worked for the kill a wee bit more ;)

You seem to be completely ignorant on how range finding works on mil-dot scopes. You should read up on that.

On topic though, I think the reason most people seem to use the .50 cal snipers is because most enemies will alt+f4 or abort upon getting shot. At least from any sniper video i've seen, 90% of their targets have done so. Even after getting killed, to deny the loot.

Hell people do this to me in the coast cities when they don't even have any loot and wouldn't lose anything from dying.

Yeah, most servers don't have actived rangefinders on mouse scroll, and even then people like myself can judge the distance, Zero in and pound out a well placed headshot. Miss? Cool, because the next shot won't unless the target starts zig-zagging and changing direct VERY often.

But I would love to see more rifles (and firearms) added to the game. SVD without camo, More AK varients, more M16/M4 varients, more pistols, some Submachine Guns, some more LMG/MMG and any older model weapons for residental spawns and barns (like the Lee Enfield or Double Barrel Shotgun, just stuff like it, not advanced modern weapons).

(To be honest, I'm a far better shot with the CZ550 than the DMR. Makes me feel terrible when it takes me 3x as many rounds to kill someone... Which tends to be 3 rounds instead of 1.)

sniping takes no skill wat so eva

Nothing takes skill in the game as far as killing goes. It is how you do it and positioning of your shot that takes skill, in any shooting game. Yes that includes everything from the crowbar to the sniper rifles.

Not really. zeroing snipers are only a problem because of servers that have free rangfinding on the action menu.

This.

I would prefer a removal of this on all server rather than completely removing all the anti material rifles.

That will make the rangefinder more useful and the SVD more powerful since you don't need to switch to the rangefinder unless you have a spotter with you.

Most servers have waypoints enabled which can be used to judge distance

The SVD should be a lot more common, if only because it's a widely used soviet weapon in a former soviet setting. And it brings OFP memories.

But the zeroing is not that much of an issue, or the M24 would be used a lot more than the DMR (and it isn't).

The problem is, the .50 cals are much more effective snipers, with more damage and more range. Ammo was not a problem before the infinite ammo bugs got fixed (we'll see how it goes now). And their RL cons, their weight and bulk, are barely a problem ingame.

Unless there is a way to reflect those downsides in the game (for example, and ACE-style weight based stamina system), the .50 cals should probably be removed.

Then those vehicles you see would take more rounds to stop. Sometimes you only get 2 rounds to place, and you aren't always going to hit tires or the driver.

Well, this is a former soviet country. How about introducing the RPG-7? They take the backpack slot, so they are specialist team weapons.

Otherwise, you have wire, tank traps, etc.

Try hitting a target moving at roughly 60-80 kilometers an hour at 300 meters with an RPG-7. Also Wire, Tank traps, or anything else does not little more than make a route take longer to get around. And you have to KNOW where they are going and set that up long before they reach it. Even then, not everyone takes obvious and predictable paths (like roads).

And if an RPG-7 has even a smiliar spawn rate as the M136 ingame, I doubt most people will ever see it, nor pick it up due to losing their backpacks for it.

So no. An RPG-7 will not suffice. And on the same side of this hand I am dealing, with a catch, that RPG-7, if it is given a spawn with higher percentages, will cause smiliar grief as long range .50 rifles.

"I got sniped from 1km away!" to, "I was looting in cherno and my building blew up!"

>using a sniper rifle

Bitch please, I'll stick with my AKM. This beast zeroes up to 800m, and destroys everything.

If they take a significant effort to repair and keep running, they should take planning, patience and a bit of luck to capture or destroy. Do you really think it should be easy for you to single-handedly stop or destroy any car that happens to run near you?

However, I'd love to see re-usable spike strips in the game, as a slightly less lethal option.

Fair point, but I think taking the backpack slot and rarity of ammo would be enough to limit that casual usage.

I can tell you're a retard because of your pathetic attempt to use the English language.

Sniping actually takes a modicum of skill. Its hardly like "hey I'm a fucking rocket scientist" but certainly more than typing "wat so eva."

Really its about knowing ranges and bullet drop and practice.

If disconnecting to avoid death is addressed, I would love to see the SVD have a higher spawn rate, and maybe drop the spawn rate of the .50 cal's.

Purely to avoid the 'doesn't matter where I hit him..." feel those two anti-material rifles have. It would make people aim at vital spots on a player.

Other than that I don't think there is much difference in 'skill' to use any of the scoped rifles in dayz, test the rifle's bullet drops / ranges in the armory for 30 minutes and you are good to go.

Don't forgot that sniping in this game is not realistic, you don't need to adjust for multiple windage calcuations, the type of bullet used, the temperature and whatever else snipers would do.

I think the main sniping 'skill' in this game is what someone already mentioned. Finding the right position to take your shots from, not the actual shooting.

Which is usually found from experience, by which I mean getting shot in the face and thinking to yourself "Well... that spot doesn't work".

Snipers rifles have zeroing in real life.

ArmA is a realistic game.

Thus, snipers have zeroing.
