  1. Hi guys, I've been playing mostly solo since May, but I would like to join a small organised group (4 - 6 players) interested in PvP / Raiding. Extra info: - I mostly play on password / whitelisted servers. - I would prefer if group members were 18+. - I use teamspeak. - Work full time, but still play most evenings. Any other aussies in this situation? Send a PM. Cheers.

    DayZ - Cherno Spree *Removed*

I skipped straight to the end and saw exactly what I expected to see. Aborting in combat. Horrible player.
  3. Oh and I still don't understand why people think its cool to be called a 'hacker', if you are in industry you'll know its a derogatory term. Used for people that don't understand the code they are writing. They just copy and paste chunks of other peoples code and "hack" it together until it *works* and meets the requirements. In other words bad programmers who write unoptimised / bloated / over-engineered code, and promptly disappear from the workplace.
  4. I think you're wrong, heres a story: Near full server, I was near a barn and a zombie aggro'ed onto me. As he got closer to me he dropped dead, for no reason. Shortly after another player just appears in front of me (I didn't have a weapon, or I would have panic fired). He talks to me over direct chat for a while and asks me if I want anything (I told him no, if it matters). I noticed that zombies aggroing onto us were just dying as they got close... so I asked him why: He said "Thats my killshield" So now whenever I just silently *drop dead* in situations where its unlikely a long range sniper could have shot me, I know the above is *probably* how I died. All 3 deaths I had tonight were to scripters (but in a more obvious teleport players to X location to die style). ANZ servers are really bad lately. Anyway OP, try ACE mod for now. Its hard finding a server, but when you do its a lot of fun.

    DayZ Stories

Was the first time I had been back to the game in about a month, I logged in with my AS50 still in my hands and set off to find my two friends that just spawned along the beach. We eventually met up between Cherno and Elecktro and headed north to Mogilevka to get food / drink. We ultimately wanted to reach Berezino so I decided our next stop should be Staroye, to look for more supplies. Up to this point we hadn't see any players, but I knew something was up when I glanced down the sloping hill on the east side of Staroye to see a fully built yellow car. I quickly told my friends to get in, no questions, and we floored it towards the road heading east out of town. About 50 metres up the road, something hits the back bumper and back right tire (none of us heard gun shots, just the impacts), and the car veers off the into a small fenced residential compound (thankfully hiding us). I told everyone to get out and take cover behind the nearby house. Suddenly we notice a white smoke canister landing about 20 metres away from us (I guessed a M203 round?), at that point I knew there was more than one person, marking our location for his friends. I was the only one armed with a good weapon (one of my friends had a makarov, the other a double barrel shotgun), and I knew the enemy was well geared, so I decided to make a break for it. Just before we started running my nasty side took over, and I put 10 (AS50) rounds into the car's engine bay, causing it to burst into flames. We sprinted into the forest along side the dirt road heading east, and didn't stop. When we were about 75 metres away from the house we heard two explosions quickly one after the other, behind us where the car was, we didn't stop running (maybe it was the car secondary explosions, but it was definitely two seperate sounds). We headed around Msta to the south-east, and kept running until we reached Tulga. We briefly looked for more supplies before logging off in the forest nearby for the night. First time in a car in Dayz, shame it only lasted 15 seconds.

    4 Days of surviving

Oh, let me guess how it all goes down! You found some nice chopper spawns. You camp at Stary (south side with as50 by day, north hill with thermal at night), and pop noobies from the coast trying to gear up at the tents. You exploit to refill your four ammo clips, you disconnect if you get shot at. Was I close? :P Close pointless topics!

    How rare are NVGs?

Unfortunately it only takes one smacktard to find NVG's and dupe 20 of them, store them all in his super mega secure tent behind balota airfield. One hour later /EveryoneHasNVG

    About the AS50

I currently have a DMR and only a glock as my backup. I don't have a large pack at the moment so its hard for me to carry a secondary weapon (assualt rifle etc) with my other supplies. The main problem I encountered recently was: I was running through a forest up north, when I suddenly see a player running perpendicular 20 odd metres ahead of me. I'm always ALT key looking around behind me when I run, but sometimes don't concentrate on what's right in front of me! I hit the deck, he didn't notice me. If I had a fully automatic rifle I would have been fine to fire, but I was in a panic. I had my DMR equipped, i knew if I tried to zoom in I would not only lose sight of him, but my aim would be shaking from all the running. I switched to my glock, then back to my DMR (he didn't stop running...), and zoomed in. I didn't have a clear shot, I just let him go. This is the situation where only having a scoped rifle + a sidearm doesn't really work. Granted I should have been running with my glock out, but that just didn't feel safe. So optimal solution is to run with an assualt rifle, and swap it out to snipe when you stop somewhere. But the problem is that once you have your nice shinny scoped rifle, you don't really want to stroll into anymore military spawns to get that extra rifle.
  9. Ok, firstly I don't want to imply anything! But is your copy of ArmA2 legit? I heard that non-legal versions start to lose performance and have strange visual effects over time, subtly, rather than just stop working. But then I hardly see how extra smoke out of the gun barrel would deliver the ultimate "Take that!" the developers were hoping for, so its probably something else.
  10. If disconnecting to avoid death is addressed, I would love to see the SVD have a higher spawn rate, and maybe drop the spawn rate of the .50 cal's. Purely to avoid the 'doesn't matter where I hit him..." feel those two anti-material rifles have. It would make people aim at vital spots on a player. Other than that I don't think there is much difference in 'skill' to use any of the scoped rifles in dayz, test the rifle's bullet drops / ranges in the armory for 30 minutes and you are good to go. Don't forgot that sniping in this game is not realistic, you don't need to adjust for multiple windage calcuations, the type of bullet used, the temperature and whatever else snipers would do. I think the main sniping 'skill' in this game is what someone already mentioned. Finding the right position to take your shots from, not the actual shooting. Which is usually found from experience, by which I mean getting shot in the face and thinking to yourself "Well... that spot doesn't work".

how many ppl will quit when.....

Sniping is usually concentrated on high military loot spawns or two major cities, so there is little chance you are going to be sniped if you arn't in one of these very select locations. Plus its not like the person sniping you hasn't taken that exact same risk in the first place to get his gear. Risk vs reward with a great deal of luck inbetween. You check the best you can, go in, and hope for the best. Most combat doesn't happen from 50 metres away, imo 90% of engagement's are played out from 200+ metres in the types of open environment's we see in game, firing at dots in the distance. Just because they are far away doesn't mean they are sniping, just engaging from a secure range. Even though personally I think the type of snipers that camp specific high yield locations for hours without moving around are skillless cowards, at least they are not cheating with alt + F4.

how many ppl will quit when.....

Sniping is part of the game, you can counter it, and you can scout surrounding area's before you go in to loot. If you are too lazy / bad at doing this, its not the fault of the mod. What needs addressing as stated before is DC'ing. Basically, if you have been shot or if you have fired your weapon, a 5 minute timer should start, whether you are logging out of not. If you try and log out within the 5 minutes, the character will stay on the server until that timer is finished. If you stop firing / getting hit for 5 minutes, you can log normally again. Maybe have a 5 second timer for all non-combat related logging. This should not be a problem for non-cheating players, because we log off in safe locations (i.e. not in combat or server hopping high loot areas). The *only* people that would complain over this change are the cheaters themselves.

how many ppl will quit when.....

There are lots of posts about this, but seeing as its up, i'll post a story of what just happened to me. North of Polana, I saw a chopper crash on the road. As I was leaving the forest (about 200 metres away) I see another survivor just reaching the chopper. I ran up to a tree on the outskirts of the forest, aimed and fired. I'm not sure if i hit him or not (iron sights, AK74), but he ran around the other side of the chopper. My heart was pumping. I thought he was going to use whatever he found and have a desperate shootout with me. Instead he typed: "HAHAHAHAHAHAH ITS MINE!" Before logging off. This is what the average DayZ player has become.
