gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 I've realised recently (through threads, gameplay and stories) that DayZ is more immersive and fun by tons when playing in Direct Comms, without the use of 3rd party communication programs. After talking to a friend for quite some time about this issue, we came up with a solution. Direct Comms are forced on, but at a low volume. Holding Caps Lock raises that quiet volume to normal. Radios can also be found in the world, with around 20-40 different channels that are publicly accessible, with maybe another 10 channels available to military-grade radios, found in airfields and military camps.I believe this idea to be a great one, that would increase the immersion of the game by a massive amount. What does everyone else think? Caviano 287 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) You started this post off with such a hardcore subjective opinion, that everything that follows sounds more like a "gimmie gimmie because this is how me and my friends think this is how it should be played".Anyway, on the note about radios. It's already been suggested. use the search function.-------Having everyones mics forced on... HMMMM"How do I work my way around this stupid 'always on' mic feature""OH!""I TURN MY FUCKING MICROPHONE OFF"lolBut really, your suggestion would make life miserable for people who own microphones who don't feel like dying every second. suspense 210 Posted July 12, 2012 Rocket already said he would like to see acre in DayZ at some point.Forcing direct com on is a really terrible idea. It will ruin being sneaky due to the fact that tons of things can happen in the room you play in, a cat having some fun, maybe someones on their laptop in the kitching, someone might be at a lan. Something like this would add so much random noise and completely deny any chance of chasing someone.
disorder 344 Posted July 12, 2012 cough cough, splutter, fart, "hey mom, i need more Cheez Whiz and bagels" and stupid, annoyingly loud music. These are the kind of things you hear when you leave mics on.Oh and the feedback would be terrible.
gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 Anyway, on the note about radios. It's already been suggested. use the search function.Yeah, I should've. Sorry about that  I am relatively new to using forums, and jumped ahead. My apologies.Forcing direct com on is a really terrible idea. enforcer1975 1111 Posted July 12, 2012 You should use PTT anyway otherwise ppl can hear when you mom starts to beat the crap out of you because you should already be in bed at that time :D
KWilt 157 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Step 1: Set up mic for DayZ.Step 2: Set up mic for TeamSpeak.Step 3: Mute mic from [step 1]Step 4: Don't mute mic from [step 2]Step 5: ???Step 6: Profit! Also, 'fun' is subjective, and I don't feel that being forced to get within spitting distance of someone to talk to them is 'fun'. doom4mr 135 Posted July 12, 2012 last time I heard direct communication was when some idiot made a lot of noise and I never heard anything useful being said there, and even if you shout "friendly" you get killed...and if you want to turn on direct com for everyone all the time the server will simply die... gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 Also, 'fun' is subjective, and I don't feel that being forced to get within spitting distance of someone to talk to them is 'fun'.Yes, Direct Chat can be a little finicky, but I'm not saying disallow Team Speak, or whatever external chat program for EVERYONE. Just leave the in-game chat perma-enabled so that when talking through the external programs it is heard in-game... although I see your point about the quote, it will merely be people that would rather cheat their way to an easier victory that will go with those methods. Not necessarily meet new people. However your point about the server dying is, I suppose, unavoidable...

gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm glad to know that I'm cheating simply because I don't want anybody whose in my proximity to hear every conversation I'm having with anybody else.I'm not saying you're cheating currently, just that those who would use the alternative techniques to get around a forced in-game chat would be. If the in-game mechanic says you should always be heard and you work your way around that, it is (in my eyes at least) cheating.

If I don't want anything to be heard, even after this is implemented, I will do what I can to make sure it's not heard. If that's cheating for you, because I value my privacy, then you can kindly fuck off.
zipper 69 Posted July 12, 2012 Glad you think it's cheating. Welcome to 2012 where there are over a dozen different 3rd party voice apps available for free. You aren't preventing anything at all, people will find a way around it. All you are doing is making it more of a pain in the ass to do so.And really, some people do use their computers for things other than gaming. I'd rather not have any program on my computer that is able to monitor what I am saying without me giving it permission to do so.Tell me, how is it cheating when the creator of the mod has stated himself that he encourages Meta-gaming? If that's cheating for you, because I value my privacy, then you can kindly fuck off.LOL wow. I'm guessing you consider it just fine to disconnect during combat and server hop as well? Wouldn't want to force you into combat or force you to actually play the game the way Rocket intended.Nobody would be "invading your privacy" if something like this was implemented. You can chose not to plug in your mic, you could chose not to speak, you could chose not to play DayZ, or you can chose to circumvent the system.I love how some people instantly scream "DON'T TELL ME HOW TO PLAY DAYZ!" when people suggest stuff like this. They see their exploits possibly being fixed and start to sweat.

It WOULD be cheating to circumvent this system IF it was implemented.Using 3rd part voice software is not cheating. Circumventing game mechanics that would force direct chat always on, would be cheating. Edited July 12, 2012 by bad_mojo

I know how to circumvent it, and I gladly will. Rocket has no problem with metagaming. If you do, then take it up with him. Don't like it? Don't play the game. This is your suggestion, and if it were to be implemented, I'd be called out for cheating in, probably, the most asinine way I could conceive.
lunchyyy 9 Posted July 12, 2012 So I can find a radio and stalk my prey with it?

Rocket has no problem with metagaming. If you do, then take it up with him. Don't like it? Don't play the game.Currently, dc'ing is not the same as not using direct chat. But, seeing as this is a discussion about the hypothetical sitution where forcing direct chat was enabled, then yes I would consider circumventing the direct chat lock to be just as exploitative as dc'ing or server hopping. You really didn't understand that? The original post you quoted said exactly what I just said. Edited July 12, 2012 by bad_mojo
gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 No, it's not actually your opinion. This is your suggestion, and if it were to be implemented, I'd be called out for cheating in, probably, the most asinine way I could conceive.Called out by cheating, by those who see it as cheating. The force-chat option could simply be a specific server option. Or there could be those that have the same outlook as you upon the idea, and see it as understandable. gingerwarlord 7 Posted July 12, 2012 So I can find a radio and stalk my prey with it?That is essentially the idea, yes. It would make conversations a lot more risky, yet make in-person chat a lot more relaxing and enjoyable. Like a rare delicacy, almost. It would add more depth to the game and it would be amazing.
