Ceeps 0 Posted July 11, 2012 Taken from the front page: Zombies Killed: 105,743,209 / 12,280,616 survival attempts = 8.61 Zombies killed on average per survival attempt. How sad. I guess after all the times people die without a weapon, the average is much lower. But once I get going, I rarely seem to die below 200 zombie kills. And it usually only takes 1-4 lives to get a gun and head inland (Sometimes I'll die with 0, which if people are doing, will significantly impact this average.) It takes far fewer tries I leave the coast without getting morphine because people LOVE sniping at hospitals.Maybe bandits are just grabbing guns, ignoring zombies, and hunting people? What could be causing this stat to be so extremely low? Do we really suck that much at killing Z's?
karatel 4 Posted July 11, 2012 Watch this http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29538-dayz-just-need-to-survive/Now, after watching, i understand why average zmb kills is so low =)
GeeksterDayZ 55 Posted July 11, 2012 I rarely get above 10 kills when I play. Longest I've had one character was 4ish days, and even then I was only on around 15. I don't go 'hunting' though, I play as steathy as possible and only kill if it is a last resort!
Ingway 4 Posted July 11, 2012 I always avoid killing then when possible, always staying low profile.
SPyRoManiAc 1 Posted July 11, 2012 People who play the respawn game(continuing to respawn until they get something "good") mess up average life expectancy and this average zombie kill stat. You'll probably see someone in a server who just keeps dying-its because they are respawning over and over.
StickyNote 25 Posted July 11, 2012 Zombies don't provide much reason for combat. They can't touch you if you run, so you can just shake them off one way or another. You don't get anything for killing zombies except bumping up your zombie count. Even if you're all decked out on gear, you still don't feel inclined to fight zombies. Instead all that stuff is either saved for a scenario that's not going to happen, or for pvp. LumberBack 43 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) its way down now, then what it was when i first started playing this mod, as you dont shoot zombies, or anything for that matter, you dont want to "attract things"... which is kind of boring i must say... I guess other people don't care about it as much, so that makes sense.
wolfgang784 13 Posted July 11, 2012 My last character had just under 1100 zombie kills before I was taken down by someone who server hopped out of a building to get to a vantage point behind me. I normally get at least 200 or so before I die at least. A few characters have made it past 500 but not many. Only that one has managed to make it to 1000. Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted July 11, 2012 You also have to count the suicides people do in order to improve their spawn location."Oh no, I spawned at Komorovo" *respawn* "Yay, Cherno!"Additionally, most players keep a low profile and try not to shoot unless they really have to. My current life is my longest, but I haven't even killed 80 zombies yet.
StickyNote 25 Posted July 11, 2012 Balancing zombies so that combat is equally as viable as sneaking and eluding them would definitely make people start killing them. Also more loot on zombies. Or collecting zombie bits. For zombie disguises.
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted July 11, 2012 Also more loot on zombiesWhen I'm desperate for food, I shoot zombies. 1 in 3 seems to have a can or something on them, in my experiences.

How many zombies you killed doesn't matter to the next player with a cross hair on your skull.

So they do give you something if you think it's worth it. The only zombies I've seen that don't give you anything are the dockworker zombies in the coveralls. I've never seen a single drop from them so I don't bother unless I really have to.I kill zombies now just for the experience with the weapons and targeting in game. Learning how to properly lead a target at range takes practice. I guess I could do that in ARMA2 but wheres the fun in that?

Actually, Zombies carry food, bandages and ammo. It can be helpful to kill them especially when there are fewer spawns i.e. deerstand, where the mil zombies have mil loot. Also if traveling in a group its basically impossible to avoid aggro even with 1.7.1.5, you can't really go stealth unless you are lone wolf.
Electrolyte 4 Posted July 11, 2012 Most people are fighting for military loot, which takes up most of your inventory and results in limited ammo too precious to waste on infected. I generally hit 200+ zombie kills before dying, which speaks to the type of weaponry I usually carry.
Numinak 10 Posted July 11, 2012 I've actually avoided picking up a rifle and stick with the hatchet as I'm lone wolfing. Got a pistol if I have to, but I find if I do aggro a Z, I can run into a building and hack them down without drawing more attention.Sure, it might leave me at a disavantage against bandits, but honestly if I bump into a bandit if the pistol isn't enough I'm screwed anyways. heretic (DayZ) 76 Posted July 11, 2012 My best run of zombie kills was 268 with a 7 day character. Most with a trusty, but loud, Lee Enfield. My current survivor is on day 10 with about 34 zombie kills. I figure the best thing to do is to avoid them by using stealth where possible and when conflict is unavoidable make sure that I'm in an advantageous position. jovial 17 Posted July 11, 2012 Unless I'm looting buildings with my group and going in loud, I have no reason to kill zombies. My boredom levels have not grown higher than my need to not attract undue attention or give away my position levels on any of my characters. :D
ssg (DayZ) 8 Posted July 11, 2012 My current character is on his 16 day on Chernarus. He has 45 zombie kills and 2 murders. Both murders were self defense. I currently have FN FAL, M107 and M1911 as my fire arms. All of them have plenty of ammuniton. I have 2x every medical equipment expect epi-pens. I also have 11 tools. No NVG. I also have only ALICE pack.Mayby I play too carefully? Stealth all the way!
DemonGroover 8836 Posted July 11, 2012 I try not to shoot zombies if i can help it. Though with one wrong Lee Enfield shot you can suddenly find your Zed count jumping up to 40 in no time.
