How to farm loot. A guide to collecting what you want. (Outdated)

Recommended Posts

I must say that this seems very efficient and cool with a decent group of players. But jesus it removes all purpose of the game. Might as well play the call of duty zombie mod, kill players and zombies alike with all the guns you need. I cant judge people on how they want to play games, but these removes all purpose of playing this game. We're a few guys rolling with a posse as well, and we're never done anything like that, seems boring and slightly exploitable.

We roll through bigger cities and NW airfield instead in our bus, yeah we attract a crowd, but thats part of the excitement.

But the tips about how the loot spawn and how zombies spawn are very nice, been wondering that ourselves.

I don't really see how it removes purpose from the game at all. The only advantage we have in collecting items is we're doing it faster. I mean, if you want to search for a month to find that M16 because you've gotten shit spawns, be my guest.

And you can't really call it boring. If someone comes across your group while piling, you tend to get pretty awesome firefights while trying to defend your position. But I suppose the enjoyment is subjective.

It seems peoples perception is very different here, I do recall one of the threats being pussies bandits and when I meet one (oops no skins) I'll pop a cap in your eye ball socket.

It just seems like an exploit, one that benefits those who know how to use it, but then again shame on you for not sharing your stash! Took me ages to find a decent weapon when i first started and i found pile of loot that was crud.

;)

More than welcome to come get our loot piles when we leave... We thought about setting up a trading post there...

How BAD of an idea that would be.

I think some of these mechanics have changed

Still works in 1.7.2.3. Been doing it for the last few days. The video in the main post was done in 1.7.2.3.

I think distances have changed, however... Need to find another set of Rangefinders before I can accurately give numbers again.

FARM LOOT!!!

Now there is an oxymoron if I ever!!!! WTF!!!

Dayz is how long can i survive, not I will live forever loot farming !!!

Dayz is about making your own adventure, fuck I have pissed Dayz if surviving is all thats what its about.

I got everything an axe, knife, matches, a few meds and a water bottle!!! Job done!!!! :o

But its a sandbox so you can do what the fuck you want.

But thats not what its about, its about getting of your arse to seek adventurer and maybe friendship, but you know the best part about it........

You just dont know how your adventure will turn out, and thats what sums up dayz for me!!!! :D

it seems I encounter a lot of deer-stands and such that are completely empty. I don't bother waiting for stuff to respawn, but at the same time I didn't clear them out and I doubt someone else was there within the last 10 minutes every time. I've just noticed the loot spawns seem to have changed since 1.7.2.3, but I'm not sure how it works now

Once loot is generated, it will never spawn anything else. So if you run into a marketplace with all tin cans, you will never see anything else but tin cans until someone picks it up. You are assuming loot despawns. It never does.

Are tin cans of any use anyway?

Hopefully this changes and loot resets after a while, specially when they're just junk loot like tin cans.

You can throw them to distract zombies, and if you hit a player it messes up their sound and makes the character jerk in a random direction.

Unsure if this current loot guide is up to date with 1.7.2.4. Looking for feedback from the community.

So:

DayZ is about farming loot.

Others are outraged not that DayZ is about farming loot, but that someone min/maxed it.

I am pretty sure that 1.7.2.4 didn;t change loot mechanics.

To everyone else,if you don't want to read the guide then gtfo because me and my friends use this to farm the NWAF for dozens of guns so that we don't need to spend two days regaining the gear we lost when we died.

Rocket does tend to change some things and not post about them. Like minor tweaks and what not that could make or break loot. Its always important to keep an eye out and have an open mind.

I am sorry, poor choice of words. He/Devs tend to adjust or tweak them, not change them.

Got a PM about this potentially no longer working in 1.7.2.4.

Anyone got any proof to counter this? If so, I may scrap this if I can't get on to test it as I am moving this evening O:

It seem like loot won't respawn if anyone is within 30 meters, not just the person the loot is tied to.

Needs further testing to be sure.

Mm~ So now it checks to see if anyone is inside the building or around it? Not that big of a deal and certainly adds more danger to farming. I approve of said danger.

i am okay with loot cycling. there is a lot of risk involved in trying to hold onto a high-value loot area for any stretch of time.

Just an FYI , the solo version of this - loot piles, drop them out of building, run 250m away, come back to like 70m and wait 10 minutes is working in 1.7.2.4.

LOL @ "farming" in this game (or any game, really). What a dork. Nothing is worse than virtual horders....except, maybe, bronies.

This is functionally no different from server hopping. At the very least, it is horrible gameplay. Not quite certain what should be done about it in a way that is practical within the Arma 2 engine, but this is not how it should be.

I frown deeply upon server hopping. However, why would I do that when thats highly ineffective and rather easy way to get shot in the back? I much rather keep my tanktraps all over the airfield and kill server hoppers or throw them into debug forest and collect their loot when they die from doing that?

Before you post I recommend reading.

I have no issue with you demystifying the loot system. However I'm curious as to your statement about throwing server hoppers into debug forest. I don't see any way to do that without using some sort of hack. I might be missing something (on top of brain cells I mean) so please explain?

I don't think that breaking down the loot system can be considered the same as server hopping , but I understand what you're saying. At the very least it is just an explanation of how the loot system works and as such could be considered an exploit. However you can't say it's the same as server hopping since that's a very obvious no no.

If this is an exploit then so is using DayZDb maps and how many players use that? A great number I suspect. I've even used it myself but no longer do as I prefer immersion over utility. It might be putting myself at a disadvantage but tbh it's no fun knowing exactly where everything is, or possibly is (in the case of vehicles).

My point is, if you don't want to know this sort of thing then don't read it. I only read enough to know what the OP was getting at, but I already had an idea about this anyway due to playing for so long now.
