Your character switching stances faster.

Recommended Posts

Although I just started playing this game there is one aspect I just don't like. Its the fact that it takes like 3/4s of a second to stand up from crouch and to go into crouch when it should take like 1/4 of a second. It just takes too long to switch stances and its very hard to react to a zombie coming up on you when you think its gone. I think the stance switching needs to be sped up. Really, just crouch right now and stand up. see how fast you can do it? It should be around that speed, not the speed of some person that hasn't walked in 2 years.

Try standing up when holding 10lb rifle and a 30lb backpack (what the player/character movement is designed around)

Blah blah blah I just spawned and only have a torch. Sadly this is an Alpha of a mod for Arma II, a game that may aswell be half completed.

Player weight and player movement dynamics are not very advanced in this game.

P.S.

This is not COD, No Drop shoting for you.

I think the time is realistic for a soldier with a heavy gun and a full backpack. That's what the original animation and timing were set for. I agree it can seem a little harsh if your just carrying a torch though. It would be interesting if you were slightly less agile if you had lot's of equipment.

Do you understand what you are asking for? How long have you been playing ArmA 2? This is not CoD or whatever jump n run shooter you played before where you jump 2m high and do the dolphin dive. btw... it takes almost as long to change the stance in A2 as in WaW f.e. This is the wrong forum for it btw...Things considering animations are BIS stuff no DayZ staff stuff because they didn't make the basic models in the first place.

I like the part where you have to stand still for 2 seconds to take up your pistol. Changing weapons when you have zeds after you is a big NO. I mean is the character retarded or what?

And why does he have to stand still to take the rifle from his back and ready it for fire?

Like Enforcer said. This is all stuff you should address Bohemia about as it's all part of the Arma game engine, not the DayZ mod.

Ask in the official Bis Forums, Dayz is a mod at the end of the day. You can't change the game engine.

The reasons for this are quite simple. This underlying game (ARMA 2) is not a generic FPS game or action movie, but a combat simulation. Even with an assault rifle attached with a sling, it would take you at least 3-5s to draw your sidearm.

Standing still will actually make it easier to draw your weapon from a holster (even quickdraw) Drawing weapons while running is something you will not see very often in any tactical environment. Remember the game is about authenticity, the standing still is just a mechanic to mimic the normal pause you make when you change your firearms. Running and switching weapons like mad is something you can get in Quake or Call of Duty.

Edit:

Even someone with a slinged weapon will have a slight pause to transition, even when walking very slow. Notice how he comes close to stopping for about two seconds when transitioning to his sidearm, although using a tactical rifle sling / kit.

of course its easier while standing, but you can also do it while walking, and even while running but this requires more skill and time.

And this is exactly what is mimicked in the game.

nope. game forces character to stand instead of slowing time of transition

Why is it so hard for people to understand that arma 2 is a military SIMULATION. Its supposed to simulate real life.

Go prone and fast crawl....then while fast crawling press standup....you will see a realistic animation of getting up and running. There is none of the stop and wait for animation to finish that A2 is infamous for.I love hitting throw by accident and having to wait for my character to finish throwing a can while surrounded and getting mauled by infected.

I understand that he has stuff on him and its not Call of Duty, but the delay and all that is just too slow. If you were running from zombies and, still carrying that stuff, you would want to high tail it out of there as fast as you can. Its just something that I find annoying as it is not to realistic. Stop calling me some sort of COD fanboy and actually listen to what I have to say, I do not want this game to become COD but I think our characters should perform certain actions faster, just like you would be able to in real life.

The COD remark is just the default comment people make on every forum nowadays when they haven't got anything constructive to say (although the first part of his comment was constructive).

Even Rocket has said how fed up he is with this.

Ok, go outside then, put on 20lbs of protective gear, grab a 30-50 lbs backpack, 10lbs rifle, 1-2 lbs handgun. Run 1 mile with that, crawl around in the grass a bit, crouchrun 500 meters, and then drop, get up, drop get up... See how fast that goes..

In afghanistan I wore my own bodyweight in gear, armor, medical bag, weapons etc... And I'd say im in pretty good shape, but it still took me a few seconds to get from prone to standing with all that kit..

Just because you can do it in your yard with shorts and a t-shirt doesn't mean thats the real picture.

The thing is when you start you don't have that much. However the real problem is (I noticed this after the post) is the delay after standing, crouching, proning or anything. It just takes way too long between standing and actually moving.

Not really, shifting gear into position could be the answer to that delay, otherwise just use the "evade" key which has no default afaik. That gets ya standing and running in no time.

And that pretty much wraps up that debate, nice one Omni123!

P.S - It's dynamics like this in Arma that make the combat a more measured experience rather than the usual running and gunning, it's why I loved the game in the first place and am now enjoying DayZ.

Whatever, I still think it should be a bit faster, but if I had my way there would probably be a weight system for switching stances. Whatever.

No, don't be offended. It's just an opinion. I happen to agree with you about the weight system. The animation as it stands is designed for a soldier with full kit on which weighs quite a bit. If you just have a couple of items then you should definatley be a bit quicker. It would make it interesting when choosing what to carry.

I'm just not sure wether it's modable as it's part of the Arma engine.
