Creating a server

Recommended Posts

Such a "huge and general" question would require an equally "huge and detailed" answer... I have neither the time nor the will to make a manual for opening and managing a DayZ server (Vanilla or Modded)
Google is the first search tool.
But a suggestion willingly:
First try your personal server (free) on which to start managing and understanding how it works... everything else will come with time and practice.

Perfectly identical in every way to the official vanilla servers of B.I. (don't think that it is a "reduced version", it is exactly the same server).
You can find your personal server on Steam in your account (in "Library" > "Games and Tools" > "DayZ Server" ("Install", I think, this is going from memory since I have already installed it and no longer have that option)
Or at this address:
https://steamdb.info/app/223350/

All the information on how to get started can be found online, always via Google.

My best wishes 😉

Hey all I'm looking to create a community server....can anyone point me in the right direction?

Man idk how old are you, but even 6 years old chiled knows how to write a question to the google and get the answer, try out maybe you'll met the luck?

Really what's hard to write in search engine: "How to install DayZ Server?" or "How to install DayZ Server with Steam?" or "How to install DayZ Server with SteamCMD?"?

Ok let's guess you've done with the first challenge, now the second: "How to configure DayZ Server?" And the last one "How to intall mods on DayZ server?"

It's ends of first quarter of 21st century man, learn how to use search engines.

No need to be that harsh. 6 year old wouldnt bother to come to a forum dedicated specially for dayz to ask this question.

While yes alot of information can be obtained by google. BUT for a 1st time community server creator that info can be "overwhelming" .

If you read carefully he is asking for pointers on where to start out his "journey " to create a server

probly hopes for some1 with experience who has created a community server to provide a solid starting point . Rather then be overwhelmed and spend time going trough the abundance of information google search would result in.
Example would be to give him a youtube video link that proved to be helpful and informative when 1st geting started ( many crap video guides that can confuse are also on youtube not only quality content ) rather than searching blindly, most likely hours, for a good guide.

But your right it is quite a general question to ask but somebody with experience that already went trough the process of creating a server from scratch would understand the question and could point him in the right direction. will save a newcomer to this particular endeavour  alot of time and effort.

Man really, search in Google, I'm not kidding, there's tons of guides and videos how to setup custom community server. At the BI wiki you can find examples of servers config (serverDZ.cfg), also copy of it contains in default server files.

Idk maybe you shall set your question more sharper like what's servers machines are you using, what's config required and so on. It's not a problem to guide and explain you, but if you ask to describe all colors of the world result would be white... The same is here, may you please explain more detailed what do you wish to get and I can tell you how and what do you need to do. Feel free to type me the private messages and so on. Wide-like questions is too wide for the answer 🙂

I find it offensive that people in dayz community are referred to as "kittens" by a dayz forum moderator. ( Least offensive of the things dayz has done and sayed to it's community tho)  soo banhammer yourself over the head and keep it professional? Too much to ask probly.

Also This situation did not necessarily require a moderator to interviere.

Soo if your bored keep your kitten stuff to yourself and forward the message of how goddamn bad of a job the dayz dev team are doing.
